Fosamax hair loss

Common Questions and Answers about Fosamax hair loss

fosamax

Avatar f tn t have many of the standard thyroid symptoms listed in most places --but have had a lot of more than usual hair loss over the past 6 mos. ( & my hair stylist says the consistency is like women with thyroid issues) & dry skin. I do take Fosamax. My mom is 87 & has been on thyroid meds for about 20 yrs. I am seeing an endocrinologist on Monday --any recommendations for other tests - or what these mean --especially the first one? Thank you!
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar f tn I would search for any lawsuits against the manufacturer of Fosamax for injury like this resulting on facial bone loss and tooth loss. Seems to be me they should pay for any corrective dental or medical treatment and pay compensation for pain and suffering. I've read negative things about this drug and it's ironic that it is advertised as preventing bone loss, and yet it accelerates it.
Avatar f tn I have IBS> I started to take fosamax once a week (for osteo). did so for 4 weeks. it seemed to bother my esophagus (bumping, reflux) so my doctor suggested actonel. i took one pill a week ago and since have had increasing sensation of a lump in my throat, and like I'm full of phlegm that I can't ever swallow down. I can eat so of course I am swallowing. I'm off all drug right now but throat/phlegm sensations feel settled in, especailly bad at night, and are anxiety provoking.
Avatar f tn Biphosphonates are phosphate derivatives that bind to the surface of the bone, thereby blocking bone removal and decreasing bone loss. Currently, there are three biphosphonates - alendronate [Fosamax], etidronate [Didronal]) and risedronate [Actonel], that have been approved by the FDA for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. These medications have been shown to increase bone mass, prevent bone loss, and to decrease the incidence of bone fractures.
Avatar m tn I am questioning whether he should be taking the Fosamax now due to the fracture that he suffered. Will Fosamax interfere with normal bone healing?
Avatar m tn My wifes orthodontist recommended a consultation with a periodontist prior to him starting the procedure for braces. My wife is a 65 year old in good health who has taken FOSAMAX for 5 1/2 years. She wants to get her teeth straightened. The periodontist has recommended a procedure to reinforce the gums prior to the braces. This has added an additional 6K to the price and about 3 months to the total time to straighten the teeth.
Avatar f tn I believe there is a link between prolonged use of fosamax and oseonecrosis of the mandible. Who might I contact for positive confirmation?
Avatar n tn Can prolonged Fosamax use damage the throat lining and if so, what is the treatment?
7469840 tn?1409845836 So hopefully we have caught the osteoporosis in time, and only have to be on fosamax for a year or two. We will do another bone screening in a year. The fosamax is affecting my ear buzzing too, so really don't want to be on it longer than necessary.
Avatar n tn I am a "heart patient" and have been taking Fosamax to improve bone density. Lately I have seen several things that implied I might not should be taking Fosamax. I would enjoy hearing some opinions on this matter. Thanks.
Avatar n tn swings of hashis the elevated thyroid hormones could very well have accelerated the bone loss. Some bone loss is natural as we age. We all cannot maintain the bone density of a medium framed 25 yr old (what they base the test scores on) I just received the results of a recent Dexascan. My hip density actually improved but my lumbar L1-L4 had some minimal loss - go figure! I was happy to see some improvement but also bummed about the lumbar. Drat!
Avatar n tn MY FRIEND HAD TO HAVE INVASION DENTAL WORK, BUT WHEN THE DENTIST DISCOVERED THAT SHE WAS ON FOSAMAX AND HAD BEEN FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, HE INSISTED THAT SHE TAKE A HIGHLY SOPHISTICATED BLOOD TEST. SHE HAD DIFFICULTY FINDING A LAB THAT WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE TEST AND ONE THAT PERFORMED THE TEST. THE RESULTS OF THE TEST INDICATED THAT HER JAW BONE WAS NOT SUFFICIENTLY STRONG[?
Avatar f tn I have been on Fosamax for almost a year . In the last few months I have developed really bad heartburn. Zantac helps for a few hours but then it starts again.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know any adverse effect with Fosamax, a medication for treating osteoporois or brittle bones? My regular doc (who knows I have HCV) prescribed it to me. I know that the liver processes all drugs and reading the side effects is scaring me. I have stage 2 fibrosis and failed the traditional interferon/ribavirin treatment already.
Avatar m tn My mom is taking Fosamax [Alendronic Acid], she is taking it exactly as directed and is still getting terriible burning in her esophagus. She is really suffering. She says there are no alternative medications she can switch to. Are there any remedys she can take to help ease the burning in her esophagus? Supplements, Vitamins, anything like that? Any help anyone can give me would be greatle appreciated, as i Said, she is really suffering Thanks in Advance!
Avatar n tn Have a-typical trigeminal facial pain after taking fosamax. Surgeon said Fosamax caused this condition and pain.(fossy jaw) I also had to have a bone implant in my jaw.How do I get rid of this constant painful condition? I Hate taking pain meds, but I'm grateful I get some relief. Pain in jaw, ear, eye, forehead, neck, nose all the whole left side of my face and head. Throat and chest pressure /constriction dizziness are now another pressing concern.
691935 tn?1421027090 I had bone loss but after a lot of round & round in the doctor dance (thought it would end with SVR but not for me) it's apparent that my bone loss was caused initially by liver damage keeping me from converting vitamin D, further compounded by malabsorption of D from diarrhea caused by another drug (not the hcv/riba combo). Took many months for the D situation to straighten out but it looks like a year of rebuilding bone with Fosamax should set things right.
Avatar m tn If you have osteoporosis, I think it is best to take the medication prescribed by your doctor. Supplements and herbal remedies are not approved by the FDA. I have not seen any studies to indicate that this is an effective alternative. While this may be beneficial, I would think the treatment plan would be the one your doctor prescribes.
Avatar f tn I know that the early hysterectomy has caused my bone issues(been on Fosamax and actually just started Reclast this week -2.7) but I wonder if it is effecting the breast? I went in for my annual mamo last week and have been called back yet again. New spot directly under the nipple, same breast. Sheduled US for next week. So two mamos and 2 call backs...I am nervous..is this common, should I be worried, is this what I have to look forward to every year...
