My wifes orthodontist recommended a consultation with a periodontist prior to him starting the procedure for braces. My wife is a 65 year old in good health who has taken FOSAMAX for 5 1/2 years. She wants to get her teeth straightened. The periodontist has recommended a procedure to reinforce the gums prior to the braces. This has added an additional 6K to the price and about 3 months to the total time to straighten the teeth.
I do want to caution your use of the Fosamax though. New studies have shown issues with femur bone fractures (brittle bone) and esophagal problems.
There are other ways to strengthen bones naturally without taking biphosphonates.
I'd get your vitamin D & calcium levels checked too since an underactive thryoid can cause problems with metabolism/regeneration of bone (so can too much thryoid hormone!) That is what makes Hashis difficult to deal with due to the hyper/hypo rollercoaster.
When I was 31 y.o. I had an accident that left me w/ a broken femur ... leading up to days later a “ titanium rod “ being inserted into the broken femur . The initial days , etc. obvious moments of pain happened , over the years since then w/ the break eventually being healed = very ..,... minimal pain . Hi in January 2017 I was involved in a freak accident resulting in a broken trochanter. I'm based in Spain and no one has given me a solid answer as to what can be possible. 35 years of empty sella, hi prolactin, testosterone injections, osteopenia, broken ribs and recently hip - and now at age 67 two of my children ages 33 and 36 flunk Dexa scans and are prescribed fosamax, which they refuse to take until hyperparathyroid is ruled out. I get labs showing PTHs of 63/(15-65), 51 and 45, with ionized calciums of 5.2, 5.3 and 5.4 on scale 4.5 - 5.6. Three endos and 2 GPs say it's all coincidental. Should we get treatment in Europe?
I broke my upper femur several years ago and had to have a rod and screws put in the region near the hip. It has been moderately painful over the years but recently become so bad on some days i have to use a cane to get around, im 59yrs old and never smoked and do alot of exercise including yoga. Should i get the rod and pin removed or just learn to live with the bad days?

Anyway I have nothing holding the broken femur they took all hardware out five years ago they found infection under the plate so they treated me with six weeks of vagomyason. I m getting worried about infection. my leg doesnt have fever but could infection be doing damage to my body without me knowing it?
About 8 months ago I had a very serious surgery that left 4 screws in my pelvis and 4 screws in my femur and a rod in my femur, my leg was broken in 3 places and my pelvic ring was broken. I am pretty much fully recovered but I still find it hard to walk fast and for long periods of time, my knee starts to hurt. I was thinking taking the screws and rods out of my leg would help me walk better. How long do they have to stay in before I can have them taken out?
Hello. 11 months ago I was in a car accident and broke my left femur in 2 places (on the top by my pelvis and in the middle). After my first surgery, they put a titanium rod through my femur and a plate connecting the top of my femur with my pelvis.
After about 5 months, my doctor told me the top of my femur was fully healed but the middle had stopped healing and he needed to go in and replace the rod with a bigger one to stimulate bone growth.
I recommend checking out the website "Save Our Bones". It is an alternative to using bisphosphonates (Fosamax, Boniva, Actonel, et al) These drugs interrupt the remodeling of bones by adding a "sheath" or layer of hardening to the outside of the bones in an effort to prevent bone "loss". Bones remodel (replace) naturally every few years.
One of the problems with bones is our diets are often highly acidic by processed foods.
in 1995 i was in a bad car accident and my femur was broken, so a stainless steel rod and 4 screws were put in to fix it. The doctors told me to have it removed in 5 years or I can leave it in but i would have problems later in life. Its 2010 now and ive been having problems for the past 7or 8 years, whenever i lift something heavy or walk too much my hip feels like jelly and hurts like crazy!!
Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
I believe there is a link between prolonged use of fosamax and oseonecrosis of the mandible.

The next day I had rode and nuts and bolts out in my back along my spinal cord which was broken in 5places. My neck was broken in 3places and I had 5broken ribs a punctured lung and a severe concussion. I'm back to walking with a limp and need a cane for support when walking but recently havens having a balance problem and even talking down alot. Light headaches. Some dizziness when trying to sleep and often forget things from my last and forget where I was talking about a hour earlier.
is it posible for a broken femur cut a main artery. and have you ever heard of this happening? I'm talking about a nonunion femur cutting artery. Is a non-union life threating?
