Fosamax brittle bones

Common Questions and Answers about Fosamax brittle bones

fosamax

Avatar f tn I do want to caution your use of the Fosamax though. New studies have shown issues with femur bone fractures (brittle bone) and esophagal problems. There are other ways to strengthen bones naturally without taking biphosphonates. I'd get your vitamin D & calcium levels checked too since an underactive thryoid can cause problems with metabolism/regeneration of bone (so can too much thryoid hormone!) That is what makes Hashis difficult to deal with due to the hyper/hypo rollercoaster.
Avatar n tn Osteoporosis- is a degeneration of bone. It can lead to brittle bones and breaks of major bones. Osteoarthritis- is a degeneration of the joint. typically caused by wear and tear.
Avatar m tn If you have osteoporosis, I think it is best to take the medication prescribed by your doctor. Supplements and herbal remedies are not approved by the FDA. I have not seen any studies to indicate that this is an effective alternative. While this may be beneficial, I would think the treatment plan would be the one your doctor prescribes.
Avatar m tn My wifes orthodontist recommended a consultation with a periodontist prior to him starting the procedure for braces. My wife is a 65 year old in good health who has taken FOSAMAX for 5 1/2 years. She wants to get her teeth straightened. The periodontist has recommended a procedure to reinforce the gums prior to the braces. This has added an additional 6K to the price and about 3 months to the total time to straighten the teeth.
Avatar n tn No I am not, I am only on tapazole, don't have a problem with bones yet, I am going to have surgery on feb 6
Avatar m tn Multiple bones have getting bent in my body not due to an injury including a deviated nasal septum. Is there some sort of week bones disease that I can have?
7469840 tn?1409845836 So hopefully we have caught the osteoporosis in time, and only have to be on fosamax for a year or two. We will do another bone screening in a year. The fosamax is affecting my ear buzzing too, so really don't want to be on it longer than necessary.
Avatar f tn in 2009 my numbers had worsened by 5%, even with Boniva, then Fosamax. I have many of the symptoms of hyperparathyroid, most notably new dx of A-Fib in the last year. What should I do? Should I be concerned?
1415174 tn?1453243103 I just went got into menopause. My FSH is at the high end, no periods for over a year etc. I had a bone density done and my spine and hips have low end osteoporosis. I was wondering how many of you out there at my age or near my age have it too? I had osteopenia of the spine 4 years ago and now it is osteoporosis. The hip has gotten worse on one side by 3% and the other side by 6 %.
Avatar f tn I was dx with osteopenia a month before I started treatment for C and began taking fosamax weekly - the low dose 35 mg per week. Before tx for C my hip T score was -1.7. After treatment my T score was -1.3, so it did improve. The lumbar spine T score imporved during that time too. I continued to take the fosamax thoughout my tx and did not clear the virus, so would surmise the improvement was from the fosamax and not anything else.
Avatar f tn Most women stop having periods, it can cause weight gain, delay future pregnancy if you ever decide to have children, brittle bones etc.
Avatar n tn I heard that with extended use bones will become more brittle with increased % of fractures occurring. Is this correct? If so, At what point (after how many years) is this a problem?
Avatar f tn I have taken fosamax and actonel and have had stomach problems and aching bones. My doctor is thinking about the yearly injection of reclast. How safe is it and will I have more problems with my bones aching - I can't sleep at night a lot from the pain. This discussion is related to Atrial Fibulation / Multi-Infarct Dimentia.
Avatar m tn I am questioning whether he should be taking the Fosamax now due to the fracture that he suffered. Will Fosamax interfere with normal bone healing?
691935 tn?1421027090 Throwing my 2 cents in.....having numerous broken bones prior to tx, I was pleasantly surprised to have a normal bone density scan after 48 weeks and SVR. Pulling for you!!!!!
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar f tn I believe there is a link between prolonged use of fosamax and oseonecrosis of the mandible. Who might I contact for positive confirmation?
Avatar n tn Can prolonged Fosamax use damage the throat lining and if so, what is the treatment?
11119474 tn?1428702170 The only draw back is some people over time can get cataracs or brittle bones and other side effects. With anything it is risk/benefit. But your doctor should monitor you. Many people with other diseases such as Lupus and brain tumors are on more steroids. Steroids work on inflammation they do not slow the progression of MS.
