Nicelady Hello, First line prevention of osteoporosis consists of adequate calcium and vitamin D in your diet.In premenopausal women it is 1000 mg and in post menopauasal women,it is 1500 mg/day.This is achieved by taking diet rich in calcium. Medications themselves can be classified as antiresorptive or bone anabolic agents. Teriparatide (Forteo) is also approved for the treatment of postmenopausal women who have severe osteoporosis and are considered at high risk for fractures.
Avatar f tn I've been on Forteo since Feb 2011. I don't think I am having Forteo related arthralgia or any other side effects from it. I DO have sacro-iliac pain on one side only, but I believe it is from 2 falls in the past 3 months that were NOT caused by Forteo. I do know it's hard to find any forums anywhere that have current informantion or women on them.
Avatar f tn Previous data suggesting that bisphosphonates have antitumor properties have come from trials in women who already had breast cancer, which showed a reduction in breast cancer recurrence, as previously reported by Medscape Oncology." Best wishes...
Avatar f tn My doctor told me that I have Osteoporosis and wants me to try Forteo an injection for two years. Has anyone tried this drug and what were your side effects, if any. I don't want to make my stomach problems worse than there already are.
Avatar f tn Just was informed that I have osteoporosis. My doctor wants me to use Forteo, an injection that you use for two years.
Avatar f tn Tamoxifen can be used by both premenopausal and postmenopausal women. In premenopausal women, tamoxifen will not make the patient menopausal. The ovaries will still continue to produce estrogen. This is where the role ovarian ablation plays. Ovarian ablation can be accomplished by ovarian irradiation, surgery, or use of gonadotropin hormone-releasing hormone (GnRH) and leutenizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) agonists.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am a 42 year old woman. I not had a period in two months and am having menopausal symptoms, i.e. hot flashes, headaches, weight gain, irritability, etc. I had my annual check-up with my OB/Gyn and he ran some blood work. The nurse called me with the results and said everything was normal except my Vitamin D levels, and for that I have started taking supplements. She could give me no reason for why I have stopped having a period beyond her explanation of stress.
Avatar n tn We hypothesized that a transvaginal endometrial stripe of less than 5 mm in premenopausal women would exclude endometrial polyps and intracavitary leiomyomata, thereby eliminating the need for sonohysterography. ref: http://www.greenjournal.org/cgi/content/full/104/1/120 So this study suggests that there could be uterine pathology-tumor/mass could be present but further investigations are required along with your clinical history before any conclusion can be made.
Avatar f tn This is the standard for ER/PR positive tumors in women who are pre-menopausal. You can always try it and see how it goes as far as side effects are concerned. It can always be stopped if the side effects become intolerable. Regards ...

634981 tn?1222702164 First of all , the CA-125 isn't to be depended on in premenopausal women. There are too many things that can elevate it.. Endometriosis, infection, the list goes on and on. From your profile I don't know your age,.. but in the absence of other symptoms : bloating, pain, indigestion, etc. it is not to be relied upon.Even with other symptoms, it is unreliable.
636246 tn?1223427291 Ooops. Meant to say premenopausal women.
Avatar f tn a CA-125 can be elevated with benign cysts, endometriosis, pelvic infections and even for no known reason in women who are premenopausal. I have run across many, many women who had elevated CA-125 and didn't have cancer. However, it is not something that should be ignored and dismissed. Mine was only 61 and I did have Stage 1 ovca. Women with even lower numbers or a normal CA-125 have also been diagnosed. It is really important you get to a gyn/onc to get your cyst removed.
Avatar f tn I did not have this problem in previous years. This has just started after about 1 year of being on Forteo and Chlorthalid. To me it almost seemed like the Forteo (perhaps it's base) increased my allergies and now combined with stress my stomach is super sensitive. If you have insight and thoughts on this I would love to hear. Thank you.
654396 tn?1237508912 Jaxsie is right about the CA-125. It really isn't to be relied on much in premenopausal women as there are so many things that can affect the results. Furthermore, as Trudie said, the CA-125 is a marker for Ovarian Cancer . It generally is used in ladies already dx. with Ovarian Cancer to determine how well the treatments are working. The American Cancer Society does not recommend using it as a screening tool especially in premenopausal women ..
483733 tn?1326798446 NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Removal of the ovaries (oophorectomy) plus tamoxifen, as adjuvant, or "add-on" therapy, significantly improves survival in premenopausal women with operable breast cancer, a study indicates. This finding is particularly relevant for women in resource-poor countries where, unlike in Western countries, the breast cancer case burden mostly affects premenopausal women.
Avatar f tn I was on Femara and Necon for 3 months to treat endometriosis. 2 weeks into treatment I started getting side effects like scary muscle pains throughout my body especially in my chest and legs, unable to concentrate and focus, memory loss, joint pain ,anxiety, rage, depression... the list goes on and on. Every time I would call the prescribing dr with a side effect he would tell me it is not from the medication.
Avatar m tn Age would certainly play a part in women ,as studies have shown premenopausal women have a better response to therapy that postmenopausal.
656485 tn?1226592447 I know how scary it is when they find a cyst, however, cysts are absolutely normal in premenopausal woman. Even in post menopausal women, they do happen. Did they mention what type of cyst you have? A 3cm cyst is relatively small and it is very common to do the watch and wait approach for this. Your doc sounds super vigilant which is great. Try to remember 95% of cysts are benign. The odds are in your favor. Let us know how you make out.
