Avatar m tn Sometimes there is a bicuspid valve (anomaly), then the ascending aorta should be icuspid valve, the ascending aorta should be resected when it is 4.5 cm in diameter. Symptomatic aneurysms should be resected regardless of size...has the chest pain been diagnosed for other than an aorta aneurysm? Usually, when there is periipheral edema due to a heart disorder both limbs are effected.
Avatar m tn I was born with a heart condition called Tetralogy of Fallot and ended up needing a pulmonary valve replacement. I had the valve replaced back in '92 and will likely need a new one in the next 3-5 years as they only last so long. However I have gotten a lot of good years out of my valve. I am not sure what it means to be bicuspid...but will do some reading and research. I was talking to my doctor the other day about a new procedure for valve replacements.
Avatar f tn My carotid arteries were fine-Thank God, but not sure what this leaking is. He wants to have another ultrasound in six months. Is all leaking mitro valve? I am so foreign to all this please excuse my nivaity. He said there was possible surgery down the road----what kind would this be? I am shaking in my skin & no where to turn. My cholestrol is okay only on blood pressure medication. Does anyone have a clue to what I may be facing? Thanks so much!
Avatar f tn An advanced condition can develop valve stenosis (narrowiing) and a narrow valve makes the heart work harder just to pump the blood through the valve to the body. A leaky valve lets blood back into the heart after it has been pumped out. The heart must therefore pump more blood forward to make up for the blood that is leaking backwards.
Avatar n tn Cardiac arrest indicates the heart has stopped beating. Heart failure is a condition of the heart's inability to pump adequately and can lead to cardiac arrest. An arrhythmia is condition of irregular heartbeats and can lead to cardiac arrest as well. Thanks for your question and take care.
Avatar m tn When the aorta valve is calcified that stresses the heart to pump against high resistance and the left ventricle will enlarge to compensate. An enlarged left ventricle can begin to fail to adequately pump sufficient blood into circulation. Replacement of the valve would be the best option before the left ventricle enlarges. Hope this helps and if you have any further questions or comments you are welcome to respond.
Avatar f tn My yearly echo summary showed that my mitral valve regurgitation has gone from mild/moderate to moderate/severe. It also shows mild sclerosis of the leaflets and evidence of left ventricular diastolic dysfunction. The tricuspid shows mild regurgitation. It also states I have a trace amount of of posterior pericardial effusion. I have been having many more symptoms these last few months - a lot of chest discomfort that sometimes radiates to my neck.
Avatar f tn Now my right leg and foot is swelling to the point of Deep Denting with a small amount of pressure that last for several minutes. Now they are sending me for a Venus Doppler. I have no endurance for any activites besides walking for more than 5-10 minutes depending on the temp. After that time my face turns blood red and I start dry heaving. Any thoughts.....
Avatar n tn Anything that increases right atrial pressure will cause a subsequent increase in pressure inside the IVC resulting in dilation. However, if the pressure is reduced the IVC may return to its normal size. So, it could go back to normal if you reduce the pressure. Leaky pulmonary valve is also called pulmonary valve regurgitation. This valve helps control the flow of blood passing from the right ventricle to the lungs.
Avatar m tn IF DEFORMED surgical correction of valve defects carries significant challenges in children, and it is not atypical for an adolescent with congenital valve defects to have undergone several major surgical procedures in their lifetime.
Avatar f tn he is 47 years old and doesnt have any habit of smoking and drinking and he doesnt eat nonveg also.as tested by the doctors, his heart is in perfect condition and were suggested for a valve replacement but after an year or s. what is the care we have to take for him to make him feel healthy and light?
Avatar f tn I had an aortic valve replacement on April 14th. About a month afterward I developed severe edema in my right foot and now it's in both feet and lower legs. What could be causing this, and how can it be remedied? I've been taking diuretics daily for over a month with no visible improvement. Neither my cardiologist nor internist has an explanation. They have tested me and ruled out fluid in lungs and blood clots. Thank you.
Avatar m tn Or stiff, fused, inflexible valve leaflets that lead to the narrowing of the aortic valve, which limits or blocks the blood flow. Aortic valve stenosis occurs when calcium is deposited on the valve leaflets, limiting their mobility. If you have severe aortic valve stenosis, you'll usually need surgery to replace the valve. Left unchecked, aortic valve stenosis can lead to serious heart problems.
Avatar m tn I needed a valve transplant the first time back in 97. In 96 I was doing an 18 week marathon plan. I started having brutal chest pain right where your talking. I would stop running for a minute. the pain would subside and I'd finish runs fron 5 to 20 miles and feel great. The thing is, there are a ton of Americans with heart problems of all different kinds, that are otherwise fit.
Avatar m tn Hi there, I had my mitral-valve repaired in March 2008. I can remember pre-op that I could not stand for even a short period, or my legs would begin to feel heavy and feet/toes turned blue. I had a successful repair and even today, almost 4 years post-op I can not stand for to long without feeling that my legs are going to give in and when I exercise my toes turn blue. I have a good EF of appr. 55% and mild mitral-incompetence with occasional PVC's and PAC's and long QT-intervals.
Avatar m tn The proportions of patients surviving free of cardiovascular events were 93.0% in the off-pump group and 94.2% in the on-pump group (P=0.66).
Avatar n tn The aorta can include the aorta valve (one-way-pass of blood from left ventricle to body), the root of the valve and the aorta vessel. If there is plaque buildup in any part of the aorta that will cause higher resistence for the heart to pump against. Cardiomegaly of the left ventricle indicates an enlargement of the pumping chamber (left ventricle). The enlargement is due to the abnormal burden the heart is pumping against with the atheromstous.
Avatar n tn I am 26 years old and a few years ago was diagnosed with Mitral valve prolapse with regurgitation. There was also mild prolapse of the tricuspid valve. A few days ago I was in the hospital and was informed that my EKG showed right atrial enlargement and that i should have this followed up with. What does this mean?
Avatar m tn My original aortic valve was bicuspid and early last year became infected and caused the valve to fail. The valve was replaced with a bovine tissue valve in April of 2009. My recovery was considered normal. This past week I went to the emergency room complaining pain in my left chest area when I took a deep breath. After I was admitted to the hospital several test were run including x-Ray, EKG, CAT scan, Echocardiogram and Transesophageal Echocardiogram. The diagnosis was Pericarditis.
Avatar f tn Currently, my EF is in the normal range and heart size is normal. I have moderate to severe mitral valve regurgitation, and the doctor and I agree we will wait and watch as I don't have any symptoms. As stated in your prior post, there are less invasive procedures that does not involve open heart surgery. You will need to discuss with a doctor if that option is availble.
Avatar m tn Hello I am 18 yrs old and was just recently diagnosed with gerd and right after I started to have muscle spasms and then one night i was laying in bed and was rubbing my foot against the bed and it felt like i was rubbing my foot on glass after that it just been small yet noticable pins and needle pricks along my skin in diffrent places could all of this be anxiety or somthing bad because i dont know please help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar n tn This scarring can narrow the valve and make it harder for the valve to open properly or to close completely. In turn, your heart has to work harder to pump blood to the rest of your body. This valve damage can lead to a condition called rheumatic heart disease, which, in time, can lead to congestive heart failure....the heart weakens due to overwork caused by a diminished supply of blood pumped into circulation as some blood backflows into the left atrium.
Avatar f tn Your valves are all in good shape which is a significant positive. On the negative side your heart's pumping function is somewhat weak - ejection fraction refers to the amount of blood your left ventricle (the main pumping chamber) pumps out with each heartbeat. Your heart is pumping out 41-45% of the blood in your left ventricle with each beat. The "normal" reference range for ejection fraction is 55-70% at most hospitals (though I've seen ranges as wide as 50-75%).
Avatar n tn s ability to have effective contractions to pump blood. If there is surgery for the valve at this time, the heart may never recovery to good functionality. I read an article by a renown valve sureon at the Mayo Clinic and he stated the biggest problem he sees are patients that have waited too long!
Avatar m tn I had an aortic valve replacement in June of 2010. By the end of July, my heart rate, after being in the 60's-70's all my life, jumped up to 109 and has stayed high ever since. It is always higher in the morning. My cardiologist dismisses my concerns...what should I do? See another cardiologist? I am currently on Metaprolol. I thought the HR would go DOWN after the surgery, but it seems to be getting worse. Thank you for answering my question!!
Avatar n tn My results show borderline cardiomegaly, ( enlarged heart ) 60mm peak gradient aortic stenoisis with bicuspid valve and enlarged aortic root. My question is ,Can I drop dead of this? or is it something That will slowly get worse until treatment? Drs are suggesting root repair and valve replacement, but without a need of urgency ?????
