Avatar m tn Hi, St.Jude valve is a mechanical valve made out of metal and other synthetic materials consisting of two semi circular discs that open and close during systole and diastole respectively. This valve can last for up to 20 years if proper anticoagulation measures are taken, because there is a risk of blood clot formation. It is important to consult your cardiologist to assess the durability of the valve that you have to decide upon replacement of the valve. Best.
Avatar f tn I am a 56 year-old-woman and I have been diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm(4.8cm) and leaking aortic valve. I have been told it needs to grow a little more before surgery, but I'd like to have all my ducks in a row before the day comes. I have been told to go out of state for this surgery and have relatives in Dallas and Houston so I'd like to have it done there. Anyone know of a great Dr. who specializes in this area?
144586 tn?1284666164 I shut the valve off, run to the second floor (nearby stairway) remove the fifty-foot length of hose on that valve (there is a spanner there), bring it down and add another fifty foot. The fire department has still not arrived. When I have a hundred foot of line tightened I turn the water on again. The Mexicans have disappeared. More people in the lobby fleeing! I blast another hundred of them, men, women and children. "You moron!" one of them screams. "Idiot!
Avatar m tn t tell you a specific name, but if you are in SW Lousiana, you are close to Houston, and that is one of the greatest heart treatment centers in the world. I had valve surgery there. I did have a cardiologist who did my presurgical cath and who followed me postsurgically in the hospital, and I would go back to him anytime. He is extremely well regarded and is the head of a large, high-profile cardiology group.
Avatar m tn I had both the aortic and mitral valve replaced with mechanical valves at St. Lukes in Houston TX by the world renowned surgeon, Denton Cooley. That was 37 years ago and I'm still going strong. In 2006, surgeons had to go in again and replace the old, aortic mechanical valve with a new St. Jude. I know you will do just fine! Best of luck to you!
18526740 tn?1465587509 s/Movement Disorder clinic in Houston. I went there last week for an appointment. I was in her office for over 3hrs talking to her or her assistant and going through the usual tests (walking up and down, finger touching, standing with eyes closed and so on). I had mentioned on my paperwork that way, way back between 45-50yrs ago I was a heavy beer drinker but nothing since around 1973.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone has had or knows someone who has had this non-surgical valve replacement. I am looking at undergoing this procedure in the near future and wanted to speak with someone about their quality of life after the procedure. I am a full time working mom and I'm afraid to do anything that may cause me to be unable to care for my children. I suffer from shortness of breath with exertion, but manage to do quite well.
Avatar m tn I would trust him and a few others to do a valve-sparing aneurysm repair. Dr. Joseph Coselli in Houston and Dr. Sharo Raissi in Los Angeles are two more. If you can go to a major heart center with a thoracic aortic surgery center, valve-sparing surgery might be an option. Otherwise, if you opt for a traditional procedure in which your valve will be replaced, get the most experienced aortic surgeon you can.
Avatar f tn HOUSTON — A Houston police officer shot and killed a one-armed, one-legged man in a wheelchair Saturday inside a group home after police say the double amputee threatened the officer and aggressively waved a metal object that turned out to be a pen. Only on NBCNews.
Avatar m tn I had a poor surgeon and ended up having to have my surgery redone a year later. Fortunately, my second surgeon was the best, Dr. Joseph Coselli in Houston TX. I got a tissue valve the first time, because I didn't want to be on Coumadin. I got a mechanical valve the second time, because I didn't ever want to have an other aortic valve replacement again. The mech valve is still doing well, 10 years later, and being on Coumadin is not that big a deal.
Avatar m tn 77 year old man, 150 lbs., history of chest pain, coronary calcium score of 12.21 ascending aorta is enlarged to 44mm. Is this considered an aneurysym? What is normal for a person of this size? left foot and ankle stayed grossly swollen. MRI stated that COPD is "suspected". Any thoughts on this?
Avatar f tn I had an aortic valve replacement on April 14th. About a month afterward I developed severe edema in my right foot and now it's in both feet and lower legs. What could be causing this, and how can it be remedied? I've been taking diuretics daily for over a month with no visible improvement. Neither my cardiologist nor internist has an explanation. They have tested me and ruled out fluid in lungs and blood clots. Thank you.
Avatar f tn In a worse case scenario you may lose toes from amputation, a foot, or a leg. Or the infection will travel to the heart and you will require a heart-valve replacement. The red line on the top of the foot suggests thast the infection has spread. Cutting to the chase, you have a potentially life-threatening problem.
553516 tn?1255867219 should i be worried? I have been told that i have a biscuip heart valve and mild angina. I am getting the pain now even at rest. Will I have to have the the valve replaced at some time and can the pain come from the valule the was no real signs of coranary arites blocking up. Will i know if the vavle gets worst what do i look for symtom wise . My g.p has told it might get stiff soon and i may need it replaced . Avatar f tn It is a common heart valve abnormality, affecting 5% to 10% of the population. MVP is especially common among women between 20 to 40 years of age. Chest pain with MVP is usually sharp but not severe. Unlike angina, chest pain with MVP rarely occurs during or after exercise, and usually will not respond to nitroglycerin. The PFO may not be medically significant and that depends on the degree of shunting.
Avatar f tn My husband had heart surgery 6 yrs ago and chose a mechanical valve (aorta) instead of a tissue valve. He recently had an echocardiogram which shows a narrowing of the opening in the valve and leakage around the outside. Will he require open-heart surgery again to fix this defective valve? What causes the leakage and the narrowing of the opening?
Avatar f tn I am a 52 year old woman who had mitral valve replacement 2 years ago. I have a titanium valve and will be on Coumadin the rest of my life. I also have severe lower back pain, to the buttocks, hip, side of leg and into my foot. I have not been able to find a doctor that will do anything but refer me to Pain Management and they prescribe pain medication. My cardiologist said that under a hospital setting I could be put on hypren(sp) so something could be done to my back.
Avatar f tn I have been having numbness in feet and buttocks area. Looking for the best thoracic surgeon in the country. I live in Houston Texas so the Medical Center is close to me. Can anyone suggest a doctor with thoracic disc experience with whom to consult? Thank you.
Avatar f tn I have noticed buzzing in my left foot for about a year, and just recently my right leg. Wondering if this could be a delayed lingering effect of my bilateral bunionectomies and hammertoe repairs. First surgery...2001, last surgery December 2006. Also, I had my mitral valve repaired in 2002. On no meds, except for 325mg ASA & multi-vitamin. I try to get 30 mintues of cardio exercise every other day..bike, power-walk, swim. As this buzzing can be a symptom of MS, I am concerned.
Avatar m tn Several days ago, I experienced a very sharp pain in my second toe from the big one on my left foot in or around the joints near the extension of the toe from the foot. A few times, the pain occurred independently in my third finger on my left hand in or around the joints where the finger extends from the hand. The pain was incredibly high and lasted for about 2-3 seconds. It now lasts between 3-6 seconds.
Avatar f tn I had a really bad experience with that neurologist - it soured me on neurologists. I have no burning desire to ever set foot in a neurologist office again, but here I am. My rheumatologist referred me to some "nice" neurologists who wouldn't be mean, but I wonder if I should go all out and travel to Houston (I am in Austin) to the MS clinic there to get evaluated. Austin doesn't have the best MRI machines or a big clinic that specializes in MS like Houston does.
