Common Questions and Answers about Foot injuries in runners

foot

Avatar n tn Other conditions that can cause foot pain include ligament injuries and joint irritation. These problems can also be relieved with more accommodating footwear. Treatment of foot pain often consists of anti-inflammatory medications, footwear modifications, and inserts for your shoes. Metatarsal pads help to take pressure off the ball of the foot. If some simple steps do not alleviate your symptoms, you should see your doctor to ensure you are receiving adequate treatment.
Avatar m tn It defiantly can not be a shin splint. This pain is just a few inches above the big toe knuckle. It's been a couple weeks with this pain in the foot. Walking barefoot in my house i feel no pain unless i press on the area then i feel a mass amount even with painkillers. If i have my cleats or runners on i feel pain all the time. I think im defiantly to young for falling arches...
15695260 tn?1549593113 A systematic review2 of 25 previously published papers encompassing more than 125,000 individuals revealed that the overall prevalence of hip and knee OA is 10.2% in non-runners, 3.5% in “recreational” runners and 13.3% in “competitive” runners (defined as professional, elite or ex-elite athletes). In other words, running (for the grand majority of us) is NOT shown to be causally related to onset of knee OA. Let’s say that again.
Avatar n tn I reckon everything is quite normal in pregnancy.. I had footpain last week @6weeks it felt like brusing under the balls of my feet and heels felt like they were gonna crack! I bought new runners and feel much better... also enjoyin being barefoot in the house which is new to me!
Avatar f tn Believe it or not, this is not uncommon for competitive runners. Very annoying! Trying different shoes and socks was the right way to go but unfortunately, that didn't make a difference. You can try an ice or cool pack to your feet before and after running, foot powder to help, a foot spray for athletes foot. These things have been known to help. New shoes and socks or these methods does often solve the problem for runners.
Avatar m tn for example, i use trail runners because i often run in the park....and remember to stretch and warm-up before you run. for now, i'd suggest you continue with cardio machines that offer low or no impact and ease into the running. if the pain continues you should definitely have a dr check you out. if getting to the dr is difficult for you, you might want to talk to a trainer at your gym, who might be familiar with these types of injuries. good luck!
Avatar n tn I hurt my foot about 4 months ago. The pain originated on the top of my foot near the 3rd and 4 th metatarsals. I felt a piercing pain with each step, so I wrapped it and stayed off of it. Now it is healed (well at least no more pain) but the back right side of my knee is in a lot of pain...It hurts when a run or walk and RICEing it doesnt seem to help. Please help!!!!
Avatar m tn For a while I've had this foot problem. My right foot has what looks like a fungus. I've used some creams and they help a little but don't get rid of the problem. I do jog everyday and I'm on my feet 8 hours a day at work. The skin is kind of scalely and hard. After a while it might flake off. I wouldn't say it's itchy though. I try to change my socks daily and the shoes I've had I've been wearing for a while. I have a pair of shoes for work and everything else.
Avatar m tn I have been playing football for 3 years now and no serious injuries in the past two. A few days ago i started getting a pain on my left foot about 2-3 inches above the big toe. It hurts the most when I walk up stairs or walk in general. When playing football i dont feel any pain what so ever because my mind is focused on the game. I am a Defensive linemen and i am 6'5" 290 lbs if that helps. There is no bruising or swelling. Please help me!
Avatar m tn If there is redness there is probably infection. There is a problem with foot injuries because oral antibiotics generally do not have sufficient strength to deal with infections in the extremities, which often require intravenous medications. So the answer is yes, you definitely require medical attention. If the infection goes into the bones and you develop osteomyelitis you may have to have your foot amputated so this is not an insignificant issue. Go to general quarters.
Avatar n tn My biggest concern would be a stress fracture. Stress fractures occurs from overtraining, usually from increases in milage in too qucikly. They can also be caused by poor footwear, runners should change their shoes at a minimum of every three months. See an orthopedist who will examine you and take an xray. If the xray is inconclusive, you will have a bone scan or an MRI. If there is a stress fracture, the treatment will be centered around rest until the bone heals.
Avatar n tn and I believe that there are nerves in these crushed fleshes, and in fact, according to my experiences, I had major nervous system injuries from the crushed foot, or I also call this the 'zone of crush'.
Avatar f tn Invest in a good pair of insoles. Go to a specialty store for runners - their employees are often better trained to determine exactly what you need for your feet, your gait, and your activity level. Mention the swelling to your provider at your next appointment, they may want to keep an eye on it and may be able to give you some tips. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Hi i was running up to 10 weeks and had to give it up as was feeling the effects and found it hard to slow down. Used to do a lot of running. hard at first but u get used to it. hard to know whats the right thing to do but everybody knows their own body and limits!!
Avatar f tn I would like to run/walk a 5k. Any runners out there? I need a training schedule and ideas of how long to train. I walk 4 miles every day and currently walk a 13 minute mile. I am looking at a 5k 4 weeks from now and 8 weeks. I would like to do both, but will register for the later one if I need more time to train. I would like to step it up to some type of running, even if my time is quite slow.
Avatar n tn I was referred to an orthopedic who then ordered a bone scan but did not find anything however he did put my foot in a cast to see if it helped with the pain and swelling. 3 weeks later my foot was still the same and the cast was taken off. He scheduled an mri and the mri showed that my 5th metatarsal was too long. He said that was probably something I was born with. He said he did not know what was wrong with my foot and sent me to see a foot and ankle specialist.
Avatar n tn It arises in one foot or the other -- I do not have simultaneous pain in both appendages at once. The pain is usually in the area of the ball of the foot, but not always. It can last up to 10-15 seconds. Then it dissipates. There is no trauma-related or exercise-related component -- I have no known athletic injuries inducing pain of this kind. No past foot-related issues of any kind. No pains of this sort anywhere else in my body. Ideas?
Avatar n tn Hi, I have a pain in my right foot. It is on the top of my foot and only last a few seconds then goes away. Seems to happen most when I am relaxed or laying down. I can't recall any injuries, there is no bruising and does not hurt to touch or press. It is quite painful while it's happening and has been going on for the last 3 days. Does anyone know what this might be or how I can stop it from happening?
Avatar f tn My son is now almost 13, when he was approx 6 we were told he had webbed feet as 2 toes on either foot appeared to be shorter.
Avatar m tn Thank you, for your answer... I don't have any of the disorders that you mentioned above. I've already been checked for Diabetes, Thyroid Dysfunction and neurological disorders... all negative....However, the nerve compression could be a possibility or the Vitamin B deficiency. I am leaning more toward, one thing that you mentioned... the vibration job...
Avatar n tn m out of shape) or just my clumsiness (popped my hip/glute muscle awhile back walking in my back yard and got foot in hole in grass, sigh). Nothing like that has happened? I remedy lots of that with stretching, icy hot and rest. Plantar fasciitis also comes to mind. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/plantar-fasciitis/symptoms-causes/syc-20354846 It often starts in the back of the foot. (have had this as well, started in my heel). It hurts.
Avatar f tn Also, the shoe must have a high back as the shoe actually works in conjunction with the brace. When you lift your foot up, if the shoe is not high enough, the brace will not lift with your foot. The shoe I found, which I order online, is made by "Avia"." It is a black or white sneaker with velcro straps and comes for women and men. You remove the insole, and the brace will fit inside.
Avatar f tn You need an x-ray. I fractured a metatarsal bone (upper top of foot) while in the military and it took a year to heal, and I still have pain decades later. Generally there is a "window of opportunity" to immobilize such a fracture, and if missed the bone won't heal without surgery.
Avatar f tn The shin muscles can also be somewhat alleviated by footwear and choice of surface. Runners who strike heavily with the heel should look for shoes which provide ample rear foot cushioning. Such shoes may be referred to as "stability" or "motion control" shoes. The so-called "neutral" shoes for bio-mechanically efficient runners may not have adequate support in the heel, because the runners for whom these shoes are intended do not require it.
Avatar f tn The other day I had a slight pain in my right foot. Like I pulled a muscle or something other. Last night it hurt worse. Hurt to step on it and hurt to put my shoes on. Tonight, it's so intense I want to cry. If I lift my foot up. Move my toes. Step on it. Anything it's terrible. I didn't do anything to my foot. No injuries or trama to it. I do however have server anxiety. And don't know if I should just rest it up, or rush to the doctor. -.
Avatar m tn I dont know the mechanism of your injury but take your time healing. Dont over do it in any way. All my research has shown me that foot injuries have a nasty habit of leaving you with unexplained residual pain. Good luck!
