Rest cramps often occur during the night. While not life-threatening, night cramps (commonly known as nocturnal cramps) can be painful, disruptive of sleep, and they can recur frequently (that is, many times a night, and/or many nights each week). The actual cause of night cramps is unknown. Sometimes, such cramps are initiated by making a movement that shortens the muscle. An example is pointing the toe down while lying in bed, which shortens the calf muscle, a common site of cramps.

I've been having constant foot cramps. Podiatrist recommended some stretches and stuff, but also suggested a thyroid test. FT3 is 3.22 (2.57-4.43) FT4 is 1.17 (0.64-1.77) TSH is 4.24 (0.27-4.2) Anti-Tg is 41.14 (1000 (<5.61) So the TSH is just a hair too high, but the anti-TPO is off the chart. Is there a thyroid problem or not? What does this mean? I've got an appointment with an endocrinologist, but I just want to get ahead of the game.

Hi all, In the past 2 days I have experiences the most painful and uncomfortable cramps in the bottom of my foot, my toes are curling up and are stiff. They are coming about 4 times per day and lasting 30-40 minutes of agony each time. Any ideas of what this is????

Yesterday my foot ached most of the day from the "charlie horse" even after the cramp went away. Seems like it was working but Charlie came back after I kicked the soap out.

The cramps are either very strong or weak but repeated (I can have cramps on both legs at the same time). Foot cramps can get to 15 cramps on a row. L-carnitine had effect for one or two weeks but then came back to the same.Is this a muscle metabolic disorder? Should I look for other causes?

I am 30w 5d and I have been experiencing legs cramps and foot cramps the past month. These last 4 days my cramps have been in both legs/ feets at the sams time and last night I fell and could not get up. My husband had to left me up and help me walk it out. Hi...I still get the vibration and cramps in my foot...it always seemed to happen when I changed my shoes...one style to another..... I am still having this issue...tho not like b4 as that is the case with many of my symptoms...but I had a month or more of the vibrating, now I have had a few nights of cramps in the arch of my feet. My hands tend to cramp when I hold something too long.....

I get foot cramps with this pregnancy, and I usually drink water and use a heat pad on my foot for 5 mins until it relaxes. Hope this helps.

Leg cramps! Ouch only get them at night when I stretch, it hurts so bad, I've tried to stretch before going to sleep does not help. Any suggestions?

I am suffering from extreme leg and foot cramps at night. A year ago I had back surgery (Laminotomy (Hemilaminectomy), Decompression of Nerve Roots, Partial Facectotomy, Foraminotomy And/or Disc Removal, Lumbar Notes: Minimal access, left sided L5-S1 hemilaminotomy, mesial facetectomy, foraminotomy and microdiskectomy ) copied from my records. For the past couple of months I have been having similar symptoms to the ones prior to surgery.

I get a lot of feet cramps and the past couple of nights I will wake up to a cramp in the top of my left foot closer to the ankle. Hurts like hell. It wont go away for several minutesI try walking it out or rubbing it and it seems to make it worse. This has happened to me 3x already in one night. I hope it doesn't have anything to do with my heart.

Hi all, I was up all night with horrid leg pain. The muscles in my right foot and then my right calf started the fun. The worst was by far my left shin muscle. I have verry muscular legs due to the way that I walk. I have never had any MS problems with my legs. I was in teh French Quarter in NO last night. I did some walking with my family. I did not do more or faster than normal. Any ideas what would cause this? It was almost solid pain for 4 hours.

Hi ladies, is anyone suffering from leg/foot cramps. I'm 25 weeks pregnant and they've started coming on badly in the evenings and during the night in the last few weeks. I'm trying to drink lots of water and have a topical magnesium cream but nothing helps. So painful and causing really disturbed sleep. Any ideas?

Usually one foot at a time, it wakes her up at night, and is relieved with hot foot soaks and motrin. Its gone on for 3yrs. now and the only diagnosis we have is growing pain. The pain is now taking place in her hands and the last couple of weeks, her thighs. I have no medical history except that she is Mian Indian (very small) and was 6 weeks premie. Can anyone help, I can't stand to watch her suffer anymore, not to mention, we could all use some sleep. Thanks.

Anyone else get them? It happens at night for me and I have to get out of bed and like jump around for it to stop. It hurts so so bad in my calves. I know its common during pregnancy but geez it hurts so bad.
