Common Questions and Answers about Foot cramps diabetes

foot

Avatar n tn I am a Type 1 diabetic who has recently been suffering from leg, foot, toe, ankle, thigh, and even hand cramps so bad that I can hardly stand it. I get the foot and leg and ankle cramps usually in the middle of the night, and then can't sleep. It is almost a nightly occurance. My ankle sort of keeps cramping up, and then it spreads to my toes and calf. It is absolutely unbearable. I am wondering if ANYONE can tell me where to start to find out what is causing this.
Avatar n tn every once in awhile, while i am sleeping i will feel the beginning of my toes or ankle in only one foot begnning to cramp up. the pain last for about 1-2 min. and then it completely is gone with no mafter affects., What causes this.Sometimese it's 2-3 nights in a row and then nothing for months.
Avatar n tn In addition, I often have severe leg cramps in my lower/left back of leg that shoot down and freeze my foot into a weird position. I went to a podiatrist when it was just the toe numbness. He thought it might be a neuroma. I got a shot of cortizone. Didn't help. I gave up on it and figured I'll just deal with it. But now the lump feeling and the cramp is just driving me crazy. Any suggestions what it may be, or what kind of DR I should see. Should I get an MRI.
Avatar n tn I am not a doctor, but am a well-read type 1 diabetic, so please check out any information I give you with your own physician. I did some research on foot cramps and can tell you what I have found out. I do not know your age, but cramps in the feet while sleeping at night is apparently fairly common as people grow older. It is believed that this is sometimes caused by poor circulation in the feet, and is more common in diabetics than in other people.

Avatar f tn my husbands foot always cramps up after we have sex....is there a way to stop this....send me a private messege......
Avatar m tn I've been having constant foot cramps. Podiatrist recommended some stretches and stuff, but also suggested a thyroid test. FT3 is 3.22 (2.57-4.43) FT4 is 1.17 (0.64-1.77) TSH is 4.24 (0.27-4.2) Anti-Tg is 41.14 (1000 (<5.61) So the TSH is just a hair too high, but the anti-TPO is off the chart. Is there a thyroid problem or not? What does this mean? I've got an appointment with an endocrinologist, but I just want to get ahead of the game.

Avatar n tn I wear a big ridid AFO brace on my right foot/ankle and that foot and/or toes will still cramp up while wearing the brace. I even get foot cramps while driving; There doesnt seem to be any specific timing to any of this. My rheumy happened to notice my hand spasms recently, so he sent me for blood tests ( I dont know yet if they showed anything) CBC, CMP, ESR, and Magnesium. But I have a muscle relaxer (Soma) and Lyrica (for nerve pain in my outer hip areas that stem from my spine).

Avatar f tn Rest cramps: Cramps at rest are very common, especially in older adults, but may be experienced at any age, including childhood. Rest cramps often occur during the night. While not life-threatening, night cramps (commonly known as nocturnal cramps) can be painful, disruptive of sleep, and they can recur frequently (that is, many times a night, and/or many nights each week). The actual cause of night cramps is unknown.

Avatar n tn Also, this a diabetes forum. Sorry, we do not know how to respond to knee issues unless its related to diabetes.
Avatar f tn One of the main times it happens is when I have been sitting indian style and the toe some how is bent forward, curling under my foot. My foot will instantly tighten up and the pain is immense. My big toe is the only toe curled under, while the other toes are pointed out same as usual. I have to massage in my arch close to the big toe to get the pain to alleviate. I have had this happen in both feet on many occasions. I have not had any recent issues, however I have had close calls.
Avatar n tn The symptoms that you describe don't necessarily indicate diabetes in and of themselves. If you were also complaining of excessive thirst and urination and loss of weight and muscle aches; the combination of symptoms might suggest that you get tested for diabetes. There may be other causes for your tiredness and headaches related to the IVF meds and I would talk with your doctor about this.
Avatar f tn What do you mean "cut foot" amputate foot?
Avatar n tn You may indeed have an associted bacteria infection which requires urgent medical attention due to your risk of developing a diabetic foot ulcer. I feel that you may not quite fully understand how diabetes works, I would suggest you visit a diabetes educator to develop your knowledge as this will help you deal with your condition in future years.
