I had the foot cramps with my ds, and my doctor said it was due to muscle fatigue and swelling. He told me to try and stay off my feet a little more, and when laying down or sitting, try and position my feet so they were getting the most blood flow (don't sit on your legs, indian style, or lay with one on top of the other). I know those cramps can be severe, but what worked for me was if you are having one, flex your toes upwards (towards your knees), instead of curling them inwards.
30am I've had pretty uncomfortable lower back pain, once I was up for a while and drove my hubs to work I started getting cramps that almost felt like I was gonna start a heavy period. I rested about 2 hours then started doing errands, where I noticed it hurts just to drive now, everytime I had to pick up my foot to either stop my car or gas it, my hips hurt!

For charlie horses what you want to do to stop the pain almost instantaneously is to flex your foot. Your natural reaction is to point your toes and try to stretch out the pain but that can make it worse or lengthen the pain time. instead flex your foot (imagine trying to point your toes toward your forehead). This should stop the pain ALMOST immediately.
