foot

Avatar f tn m 37 and recently rolled my foot, I was told that I fractured one of the sesamoid bones in half and also fractured the base of the fifth metatarsal. It is completely separated. I was in a boot for two months and had another X-ray done because I'm still having pain, then another radiologist said that it looks normal and that it's a common thing for the base of the fifth metatarsal to be completely separated, they stated that it was an ununited ossification center of the fifth metatarsal.
Avatar f tn Foot fracture - Ortho took an x-ray, CT scan, now wants an MRI I broke my third metatarsal on my left foot from a hard fall at Taekwondo 2 weeks ago. I went to urgent care and the x-ray confirmed that my third metatarsal is fractured. I saw an orthopedic, they took another set of x-rays and they confirmed what the dr. at urgent care said. The doctor told me that the fracture is partially displaced and still aligned, but she also requested a CT scan.
Avatar f tn This is potentially serious. The pain suggests infection, and the metatarsal bones are nearby. It could be a clot, but you need a professional look-see. If the infection migrates to the bone, you develop osteomyelitis, which is a nightmare on elm street, and may require weeks of intravenous therapy..

Avatar m tn “Intermetatarsal” describes its location in the ball of the foot between the metatarsal bones. Neuromas may also occur in other locations in the foot. You probably should get a Cortisone shot and maybe Orthotics. see a Orthopedist or a Podiatrist.
Avatar n tn Also, if we walk with certain bones in the foot hitting the ground harder than others, we start to build callus from the increased pressure.
Avatar n tn Foot pain can be caused by increased pressure on the metatarsal heads. This can be due to constricting foot wear or high heel shoes. Other conditions that can cause foot pain include ligament injuries and joint irritation. These problems can also be relieved with more accommodating footwear. Treatment of foot pain often consists of anti-inflammatory medications, footwear modifications, and inserts for your shoes. Metatarsal pads help to take pressure off the ball of the foot.
Avatar f tn Finally because of the infection I lost my big toe and half my metatarsal bone behind it.This leaves me with a problem keeping my shoes on because of the shrinkage even though I have an insert in my shoe that was made by a prosthetic office. My question is;can my metatarsal bone be rebuilt?I can always stuff something in the toe of my shoe to take up the big toe space but the missing metatarsal bone is very crippling.
Avatar f tn You need an x-ray. I fractured a metatarsal bone (upper top of foot) while in the military and it took a year to heal, and I still have pain decades later. Generally there is a "window of opportunity" to immobilize such a fracture, and if missed the bone won't heal without surgery.
Avatar f tn Hello~I would suggest seeing a chiropractor who specializes in sports medicine and adjusting. Some of the bones in your foot may be out of alignment and if this is the case, you will have the pain you are describing. The chiropractors are trained to read x-rays differently than MD's, they will be able to see immediately if this is the case. A few treatments and you should be lots better.
Avatar f tn You may have some pinched nerves in your lower back and also some little bones out of alignment in your foot. He/she will take some x-rays and this will show what areas need attention. Many chiros even can make special orthotics which can be of great help. I hope you get relief soon, having painful feet can make the entire body miserable. God bless you.
Avatar m tn About two and a half years ago I broke the second metatarsal in my right foot. It was misdiagnosed as turf toe by two different doctors so it was allowed to heal without any treatment. The swelling went down and I went back to the doctor because my second toe was still misaligned. I then found out that the metatarsal had been broken, but it was already healed so the doctor didn't want to do anything more.
Avatar m tn They also recommended I wear Metatarsal pads, which I have tried. Without a metatarsal pad and using memory foam insoles the 3rd and 4th toe on my foot feels tingly every time I walk. As soon as I put a Metatarsal pad on and walk most of my toes becoming tingly, then my foot feels like it's swelling up. I have gotten MRI /Xrays/had EMG/had cortisone injection in Plantar fascia area a few weeks ago of/on my right foot and all test came back negative for any kind of Neuroma or Nerve Damage.
Avatar f tn It graduated to constant ball of foot pain with numbness in the ball of foot and toes with tenderness between the metatarsal bones on both feet. Has anyone ever had this or currently has the same symptoms? I have been to my GP who thinks it is a foot issue. I have an appointment with an Orthopedic, but could not get an appointment until April. Was just wondering what anyone did to reduce the pain and numbness.
Avatar f tn The surgeons had to operate and take a small piece of bone from my right hip and placed it between the 2 bones in my right foot to try and rejoin them. Unfortunately I continued to have pain until it eventually became really difficult for me to walk even 100 meters. I went back to the hospital where a scan and X-rays were done. I went through a second operation last year 2010 to remove the pins/metal that was inserted previously.
Avatar f tn Also , my left foot is half a size larger than my right foot and the top of my left big toe presses against the top of many of my shoes including my tennis shoes, which worsens the pain. If anyone has any alternative theories, I would love to hear them! Thank you very much.
Avatar m tn I had pain in the second toe which I think is causing pain at the ball of the foot too. I went to an orthopedic and he recommend an MRI as the XRay didnt show anything. I was asked to wear a custom made orthotics with a metatarsal pad but that does not seem to helping in relieving the pain either. What can i do to heal the foot? Below is the MRI report.
Avatar f tn I have untreated celiac disease and have had a stress fracture 2nd metatarsal that did not heal for over 4 months. Was in a plastic air boot and crutches for 8 weeks. Then tried to get back into regular shoe and started p.t. But had continued pain and limping. Went to a new ortho for 2nd opinion and he took a 2nd MRI. Radiologist came back with 3rd metatarsal now has a stress fracture. So back in boot and crutches for 6 to 8 weeks. It has so far been 5 1/2 weeks.
Avatar m tn s) we start losing fat to the bottom of the foot. The poking sensation is your metatarsal head (bone in the ball of your foot) rubbing on the ground. You don't feel it much with shoes b/c it is cushioned. I suggest wearing house slippers in the house; otherwise the metatarsals can bruise after prolong standing and become painful.
Avatar f tn Had foot surgery 6 weeks ago 5th metatarsal.. For the past week the pain seems to be getting worse and not better.. I went for a xray results stated Focal inflammory process and osteomyelitis.. Probable post traumatic degenerative arthritic changes.. Im not sure what all this mean.. My follow up appt is 2 weeks from now..
Avatar n tn This is the area under the outer border of the foot, just behind the bump which is the base of the metatarsal at about the middle of the foot. If this padding causes increasing pain, it should be discontinued. Anti-inflammatory medication may help ease any discomfort. Prevention can be done with-Foot supports, or orthotics, may be necessary to stabilize the foot and prevent re-injury. They can be obtained from a chiropractor or podiatrist.
Avatar m tn There is pain, tenderness and swelling at the outer border of the foot, most marked at the site of 5th metatarsal. Diagnosis is easy by an X-ray. Treatment is by below knee walking plaster cast for 3 weeks. Take care!
Avatar n tn I had surgery for a freibergs infarction over a month ago and I am still in tremendous pain. I am being told continously to elevate my foot. When my foot is elevated for 5-10 minutes it goes completely numb and causes more pain. The pain is tremendous when elevated. I always thought that elevation would alieviate pain not increase this. What could be causing this?
Avatar f tn I am attending a foot clinic at a state hospital. The surgeon prescribed a metatarsal bar. I had metatarsal bars glued underneath all my shoes at great expense, but the orthopaedic surgeon now wants me to see a private orthotist about a metatarsal bar to wear inside my shoes. It has severely impacted on my life, I have no friends, have gained weight and my face is ugly from the constant pain. The toe joint is also stiff.
Avatar n tn So I immediately went to the hospital. Where they did do an x-ray and was told that I did not have any broken bones. My foot was red and would change colors, especially when I put weight on it. I was referred to an orthopedic who then ordered a bone scan but did not find anything however he did put my foot in a cast to see if it helped with the pain and swelling. 3 weeks later my foot was still the same and the cast was taken off.
Avatar f tn The reason I ask this question is because the only thing I can think of that caused my foot pain could have been when I jumped across a ditch. I did not have any pain immediately afterward. I was in the house and suddenly had pain at my 4th metatarsal which is I believe the name of the bone below the toe next to the little toe. Pertinent history: I am a 45 year old white male who is 5-9 and overweight weighing in at 240 lbs. I know the weight is an issue.
525545 tn?1293181194 Jones fracture or dancer’s fracture is a fracture of the fifth metatarsal of the foot. The fifth metatarsal is at the base of the small toe, and the proximal end, where the Jones fracture occurs, is in the midportion of the foot. Patients who sustain a Jones fracture have pain over this middle/outside area of their foot, swelling, and difficulty walking. Treatment of an acute Jones fracture that is not significantly displaced consists of a cast, splint or walking boot for 4-8 weeks.
