525545 tn?1293181194 I broke my foot the first week of October. I was told I have a Jones Fracture. Why is this fracture hard to heal? I was told I will be in a cast for 3 months. I am in a non-weight bearing cast now. This is the 5th time I have broken this foot, not the same kind of fracture.
Avatar m tn To be brief: broke my foot (Jones Fracture) on 3/12 was in a cast NWB from 3/17 through 6/18 then due to having numerous issues with the cast was put in a boot for the last few weeks. Still NWB, still in a wheelchair. I can't be 100% NWB due to my house not being wheelchair friendly (can't use crutches, had MAJOR issues with them). but overall I am REALLY good (maybe walk a total of 30 minutes all day (when you add up all my bathroom trips!
Avatar f tn My 16yr old broke the 4th metatarsel in her right foot in March 2010 dancing. It healed slowly, throughout June 2010. At the beginning of July 2010 she came across uneven ground while running and broke the 5th metatarsel in her left foot. Its a Jones fracture. Let me include that she is 5' 11" and weighs 210lbs. She has been using crutches. During the past week she has been complaining about her both feet hurting, her shoulders, arms and knees. She has alot of dairy in her diet.
Avatar n tn I recently had surgery to put a screw in my foot after a Jones Fracture. Since the surgery, I have noticed that when I stand upright (on crutches of course) that all the blood goes rushing down my leg which causes minor swelling and a distinct discoloration (more of a darker brown color) than the other leg - mainly below the knee. My calf and foot will throb temporarily as the blood goes down my leg after sitting or lying down for awhile.
Avatar m tn s more of an avulsion fracture (Zone 1 where jones is Zone 2). Jones enters the 4-5 joint where yours more enters the cuboid-5th articulation. Jones fractures are bad actors because they are less likely to heal because they reside in a vascular watershed area. yours should heal just fine with time. Usually 6-8 but not uncommon for this to take 3 months to see healing.
Avatar m tn I have jones fractures in both feet possibly. What is the process of healing and mobility when two feet are fractured?
Avatar f tn I keep reading comments about weight bearing and am unsure what that means-- does that include weight on the foot while wearing the boot or without? Question 3: If it feels okay, is it bad to rely just on the boot / no crutches? Thanks!
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with a Jones fracture in July, but couldn’t stick to the treatment of not bearing weight on my foot. I am a Type one diabetic and the conservative method was strongly preferred. It is not causing much pain 4 months later.
Avatar m tn just had jones fracture surgery and I am nervous that I hurt the surgically repaired foot. I was on my knee scooter with my bad leg and without realizing I moved my kitchen table over a few inches with the opposite hand. i'm hoping I didn't put too much stress on that foot....had so may pain killers in the foot, I totally forgot about it for a moment. the bad foot/leg was on the scooter not the ground.
Avatar n tn Hi there, I had surgery to place a screw into my fifth metatarsal on 3/19/09 to repair a Jones Fracture of the right foot that had been bothering me for close to a year. I saw the Xray for the first time yesterday at my doctors office. The screw they inserted was sort of diagonal through the bone which is probably normal due to the angle at which the screw enters the bone...
Avatar f tn I read in another answer that "displaced fractures of over 2-3 mm should usually undergo surgical correction." I had a 4 mm displaced fracture of the base of the 5th met (non Jones), which at 6 weeks had only slight healing, and at 8 weeks no further healing. I'm waiting to get into an ortho to see what's what now. An ortho was consulted when I initially broke it, but the concern seemed to be that it went close to (but not into) the joint space as far as a pin.
Avatar n tn This band may represent Beta-2 Microglobulin, Monoclonal Immnoglobulin or Free Light Chain (Bence-Jones Protein). Immunofixation analysis is available is clinically indicated." My doctor said she looked at them and nothing popped up for her. She wasn't concerned. I have a hard time believing this because these are new changes. I only had the high inflammation rates before. Please, please help me... Advice, anything would be wonderful. What's wrong with me???
Avatar f tn Mine do that! Even if I move my foot my hips crack and pop. It's normal. Mine started doing it at 22 weeks.
Avatar m tn I am two weeks into a Jones Fracture. I've had the same fracture on the opposite foot years ago and it healed well in 3 months. I'm wearing an orthopedic boot, supplementing Ca/D/K2 and using a bone stimulator. After two weeks the swelling is massively reduced and there is no pain. Can performing active, non-resisted range of motion exercises be harmful to the healing process? What about slight weight bearing? Note that neither activity causes any pain.
645390 tn?1338555377 The main problem of this flare, is lots of tingling and numbness, particularly in my left foot/leg. I am not feeling my left foot too well, and broke a toe and some other "little" bones. So, today, was at one of the kids schools, got in my car, and without realizing it, my foot was not quite in the van. Tears were flowing. I can only wear flip flops due to my foot, don't know if there are any other suggestions as to what might help.
Avatar f tn My 5th metatarsal has been broken for 9 weeks. I think it was a jones fracture (looks like 1-2 from online research, but not sure) My week 6 xrays showed that the bone was mending, but it was still very swollen to walk on. The foot wasn't cast, but placed in a walking boot. I was told no put no pressure on it and to keep elevated. The student doctor advised that at 6 weeks, i could keep the walking cast off as long as i was in bed and placed no pressure on it which i then did.
Avatar n tn I fell off of a platform, which is about 6 feet high. Landed on my left foot and right heel. It hurt immediately and has hurt since (it's now the third day after the injury). It's getting slightly better every day - meaning that I am able to put more and more weight on it. There is slight bruising on the outside / right side of my right foot. No bruising on the back of the heel, the bottom, or the left. There was very little bruising around the ankle, but there is none now.
Avatar f tn It sounds like you may have either had a serious sprain or broken some of those tiny bones that are in the foot. You definitely should see your doctor and he will probably order an X-ray. That sounds painful. I twisted mine before by missing a step, and the hospital put on a cast and this relieved the pressure on my foot and made it feel a lot better. Mine was just a sprain.
761943 tn?1234316178 I’ve been experiencing some pain on the outside of my right foot while walking for extended periods (ex. at the mall) Finally went to a podiatrist and he talked to me for over an hour about wearing better shoes, working out (definitely could loose a few, but not morbidly obese or anything), etc. He didn't think it would be anything severe but he would do x-rays anyway.
Avatar f tn Putting any weight on an operated foot or ankle can do damage to the repair that’s been done. Bones need time to heal. Plates or screws that may have been added during surgery need the bones to heal around them. Adding weight too soon can interrupt this important internal healing process.
