Common Questions and Answers about Foot anatomy tarsal

Avatar f tn I had a tarsal coalition repair done on my foot in April of this year. I am now having issues with part of the bottom of my foot, including the ball of my foot and all my toes except the last three. When I move my foot, it feels like it has been asleep with the tingling, like pins and needles, and I cant go without shoes on that foot, I cant wear sandals, and when I do try to go without shoes on, the heal of my foot feels like the bone is going thru my foot.
Avatar m tn It can also affect the toes, mimicking a neuroma. The most common cause of Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome is a flat foot or a foot in which the arch flattens excessively while walking. Over time, this causes the nerve to stretch or become compressed in the area of the tarsal tunnel. The condition is slowly progressive and occurs more commonly after 30 – 40 years of age.
Avatar n tn ve had horrible heel pain in left foot, left foot swells up sometimes. Heel and also goes to left side of foot. The pain is bad in the morning but activity makes it worse too, sharp, shooting pain sometimes. Went to podiatrist Friday who examined me and diagnosed tarsal tunnel. Never did even an x-Ray. He seemed confident with diagnosis. He wants to go with conservative treatment first such as different shoes, orthotic and see how it goes, surgery last resort.
490398 tn?1319940717 hi, i have tarsal coalition in my left foot and it is extremely painful for me to walk. the doctor has suggested i have the surgery but is it to risky?
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with tarsal tunnel syndrome and have tried just about every conservative method of treatment. It appears the next step would be tarsal tunnel release. Does this surgery have a high success rate. I am afraid that I will end up with more trouble than I already have.
1561628 tn?1294923998 He seemed to think that my pain maybe caused by a mild case of Tarsal Tunnel synrome. He used an unltrasound on my foot and showed a spot where the nerve potentially is compressed up against a ligament.
Avatar f tn I'm 14 years old and I've been having foot pain ever since I was 9. I have seen five doctors, gone to physical therapy, had orthotics made and adjusted more than five times, had an electromyography and nerve conduction velocity test, an MRI and blood tests, multiple X-Rays and changes in shoes. All of the above tests have come back normal and not one doctor has been able to figure out what's wrong with me.
Avatar m tn But along with a hoarse voice, shortness of breath, a cough not related to a cold , carpal tunnel etc. I had some numbness 6 months ago in my right foot. The doctor said it was tarsal tunnel. No one ever mentioned it could be related to thyroid, but that was a question I was going to ask my doctor on Mon. as I read about carpal tunnel on the web. It came out of nowhere.
Avatar m tn Anyone have any experience w/ tarsal tunnel syndrome. Have been dealing w/ this for quite some time. Have been taking cortisone shots when able and lots of ibprofen, also icing. I have a good neuro surgeon who is not surgery happy. Obviously this really puts a damper on my running. I can ride the bike most of the time, but I love to run also. Just about everything I have read and researched comes down to surgery.
Avatar m tn I was reading all these post and is foot problems and chiari related? I am having my 5th foot surgery on friday June 11th. I have had tarsal tunnel surgery on both feet tons of neuromas that can cause pain and like a hot rock feeling under the bottom of the foot very painful you cant even walk on it.( a neuroma is a nerve tumor) plantars facitist(cant spell it) and other tendion problems. I have very bad feet oh and tailors bonions and never damage. I was just wondering.
Avatar n tn I had this same problem, except it was tarsal tunnel. Yes, that is tarsal. That is also a problem caused by hypothyroidism. In the meantime, check out vt b6 and use for nerve pain. I had the surgery for the release. They should do a release on the top of the foot, along the inner aspect of the heel and the lateral part of your calf. weight loss would be very beneficial to relieve some of the pressure as well.
Avatar m tn At 69 and diabetic, I also have spinal stenosos, spondylosis, carpal and tarsal tunnel syndrome, polyneuropathy and severe arm and leg cramps. I take moderate amounts of Ultram (daily), and Vicodin and Percocet as needed for pain. My muscle enzymes have been high for years but no-one has ever bothered to determine why. The last couple of days I have something new, pretty severe pain in the upper inner part of my left thigh (goes about 3/4 of the way around my thigh) as I lift my leg to walk.
Avatar m tn You may be feeling numbness in the last toe due to foot compression from tight shoes, casts etc or tarsal tunnel syndrome. There may have been a trauma to the foot, peroneal nerve irritation, sciatica due to lumosacral nerve root compression from prolapsed disc. Systemic disorders like peripheral neuropathy from diabetes, hypothyroidism or vitamin B12 deficiency, raynaud’s phenomenon, or worse multiple sclerosis. Check with a neurologist after eliminating simple causes like tight shoes.
1366685 tn?1278019145 Navicular is one of the many tarsal bones of your foot. Avasucular necrosis is destruction of the bone due to no blood supply Kohler disease is a rare bone disorder of the foot found in children between six and nine years of age. In adults a similar condition is called Panner's syndrome occurs and there are other variations of Kohler which can occur and also affect your metatarsals. Follow up with an orthopedician. Take care!
Avatar n tn The numbness could be due to tight fitting shoes causing foot compression, foot trauma injury, tarsal tunnel syndrome caused by nerve compression in the tarsal canal in diseases like diabetes, hypothyroidism, arthritis, peroneal nerve irritation or rarely a neuroma. It might be part of multisystem diseases like leprosy, multiple sclerosis, sciatica, peripheral vascular disease or raynaud’s disease. It could be sciatica or degenerative disc disease.
892668 tn?1241564990 Hi, I've been diagnosed with Plantar Faciitis since 2002. I've had steroid injections of all kinds. It's gone from heels to under foot to top of foot, to everywhere possible on foot (feet). I am at a point where I don't know what else to do. I've had different insoles made for my shoes, told not to go without them, thus never wearing sandles again, and I'm still suffering.
Avatar m tn I have an electric zing that comes and goes on the side of my right foot. I wear extra arch support and that helps sometimes. How do I get relief?
Avatar f tn It varies in spots, from only skin numbness, to numbness that goes deep within. On my right foot it is limited to the foot, but my left goes up my skin halfway. Since I noticed it, the numbness has remained. At no time have I felt the tingling, or needles sensation of the feeling coming back. Getting an appt with the doctor has been difficult, so I won't see one for 4 more days.
Avatar m tn I had carpal tunnel syndrome when hypo, which resolved once on meds and has never returned. Tarsal tunnel syndrome is the corresponding syndrome in the ankle, so it could well be thyroid related. Please post current thyroid blood results with reference ranges (they vary lab to lab and have to come from your own report), and as Kristina suggested, give us a brief meds history.
Avatar n tn Hi Dr, About 15 years ago i sprained my left ankle ever since i have had problems with it. I have a pain on the top side of my foot over too the left side over my cuboid. When i go for a jog or a swim my foot would cramp up and my toes would turn into the up position trying to relief my pain. What would be the best way forward. Would a pair of arch supports work fine or would i have to go and see a specialist??
Avatar m tn ve picked up symptoms of cubital tunnel in my other arm, radial tunnel in both arms (top of forearms burning), carpal tunnel in both hands (tingling numbness in thumb and first two fingers), and even the tingling and burning of tarsal tunnel syndrome (burning soles and ball of foot, tingling in ball and toes, etc). And today I woke up with a stiff uncoordinated left leg, with some buttock pain shooting down my leg. It's very mild, but I'm thinking sciatica or piriformis syndrome.
Avatar n tn I had tarsal tunnel surgery last February. I've noticed over the past month that the skin on the back of my ankle, behind my incision, has turned a greyish color and it has tiny, scaly bumps all over it. It doesn't itch or hurt. At first I thought it was just dry skin, but it doesn't change when I put lotion and cream on it. Is this something I should see my podiatrist or dermatologist about? Thank you for any help and advise.
Avatar n tn I had plantar fasciatis years ago, one foot at a time. I think mine may have started, at least one time, with stretching my achilles tendon. I also, like you, have high arches. Eventually, I had to go to the Dr and have my foot taped. That worked in the long run, I also had to have steroid injections in my foot a couple of times. But it was worth it. I finally got rid of it and it hasn't come back in the last 10 yrs or so. Took a lot of ibuprofen also.
Avatar n tn You may have an accessory navicular, which is an extra bone growth on the tarsal navicular, the bone in the arch of your foot. This can be accompanied by an abnormal attachment of the posterior tibial tendon (PTT) and can cause the sort of pain you are describing. Occasionally, the accessory navicular is injured and separated from the "true" navicular. If this does not heal correctly, it can also be a chronic source of instep pain.
Avatar n tn Had it in an aircast for 2 weeks, but it was painful for years after that. I rolled the same foot (this time it was the ankle on the inside) in 2003. This time I was in a splint for a week and that's it. It was recommended that I start physical therapy, but I never did due to a job change. I believe both were 2nd degree sprains. The pain feels like i am being stabbed with a knife and my ankle is very stiff and swollen.
Avatar n tn Hello, Going by your symptoms,I feel that this type of pain can be due to plantar fasciitis(irritation and inflammation of the tight tissue that forms the arch of the foot),heel spurs, tarsal tunnel syndrome(causes a large nerve in the back of the foot to become entrapped, or pinched), Achilles tendonitis, retrocalcaneal bursitis and arthritis(rheumatoid arthritis, reactive arthritis, gouty arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and psoriatic arthritis).
