20620809 tn?1504362969 The other type of carbohydrates is known as complex carbohydrates - these are foods that take longer to break down in our body so don't turn to sugar right away. These include most vegetables, fish, seeds, nuts, whole grains, etc. You don't have to "love" fish to follow the Mediterranean diet. It does allow lean meat, chicken, etc in limited quantities.
Avatar n tn what raises blood sugar is carbohydrates, so as a rule (diabetes is all about exceptions to rules!) the more carbs you take in, the higher your blood sugar. High carb foods include pasta, potatoes, rice, cereal, bread and sweets. Some people find they can eat whole grains with less effect than white versions of these foods; some find it makes no difference. Fruit, which we think of as a healthy food is also high in carbs so you need to eat it in moderation as well.
Avatar f tn re full too fast, try having more high-calorie foods or slices of foods as opposed to consuming the whole thing (raisins versus grapes, granola and Grape Nuts versus corn flakes, mango slices versus the whole mango). Limit drinking beverages to a half-hour before and after a meal. Drink mixed juices (apple/berry, peach/orange/banana as opposed to one juice beverages) for a higher calorie intake.

1266263 tn?1270153368 Hi, The best fuel for muscles is carbohydrates, either simple sugars such as naturally occurring sugars in fruits and juices or complex carbohydrates the starches in whole grain products, rice, cereal, oatmeal and other plant foods. These carbohydrates provide not only energy but also important vitamins and minerals. You store only carbohydrates not protein or fats in your muscles in the form of sugar called glycogen. During hard exercise, you burn this glycogen for energy.

1829282 tn?1325591658 Ditto what redstar said- everything in moderation.. so don't get rid of all your carbs and sodium. However, maybe it might help you to switch your sandwich to a salad? Or at least double check the ingredients on that bread. Some bread is really high with sugars and low on good grains; some with 5 grams of fat per serve, and I've even seen a lot of generic brands that had high fructose corn syrup in it! Bread can be scary, so make sure you know what's in yours.

Avatar n tn Carbohydrates [simple carbs] that break down quickly during digestion and release sugar rapidly into the bloodstream have a high GI; carbohydrates that break down more slowly, releasing sugar more gradually into the bloodstream, have a low GI. Avatar m tn Diabetes is the bodies in-ability to process carbohydrates properly resulting in high blood sugar (BG). ALL carbohydrates not just sugar. Your body turns all carbohydrates into BG . I dont know what your "diet" is that you follow. BUT it has more carbohydrates than your body can process. Even the ADA's diet has too many carbs for you OR/AND you need drugs to help your body to process the carbs.
