Avatar n tn re doing what you need to do to lose the weight. The majority of the fluoxetine will be excreted in a few more weeks, so just be patient and continue eating right and exercising.
Avatar f tn I lost all that weight, and am back to what I should be, but know, I will now gain all that weight again. Some anti-depressants do that. I know why I put on the weight - it was because I craved carbohydrates all the time. When I stopped I completely lost my appetite and could hardly eat. I don't know what is worse. One thing I do know is I would rather be overweight and the depression under control, than off medication with terrible depression. It is a difficult one this.
Avatar f tn However, it has one horrible and very common side effect, which is intense hunger and weight gain. I gained 50 pounds on Mirtazapine and even after quitting, I really have a hard time getting rid of them.
Avatar f tn Hypothyroidism is a much more likely candidate to explore..that should be treated, and in addition, look to the possibility that you are still an emotional eater dealing with emotional issues that you should address directly rather than medicate.
Avatar f tn Anyone one been on fluoxetine and not had any problems with weight gain before I went on them July 2012 I was a nice 9 half stone I'm now up to 13 stone and feeling awful? Would be good to know if sum ones had the same problem and had change of meds and what to.
Avatar f tn Be careful with the above advice. Never take 5-HTP if you're in withdrawal -- it will make it worse assuming it ends up creating a more efficient flow of fresh serotonin. After all, it's your brain adapting to using serotonin naturally again that is the cause of withdrawal, you don't want to do anything to make that harder. Also, 5-HTP, as with any substance, can have side effects.
Avatar f tn Hi I switched from Fluoxetine to Citalopram about 6 months ago as the Fluoxetine was making me gain weight. Since I've been on Citalopram I've put on even more, and am now about 2 stone (14kg) heavier than I was before I started. I don't want to come off ADs as they're helping me so much, but at the same time I don't know if I can cope with any more weight gain. Has anyone experienced weight gain with certain antidepressants then been able to lose with a different one?
Avatar m tn t need. Looking for some suggestions.
Avatar n tn Do not stop taking fluoxetine without talking to your doctor. If you suddenly stop taking fluoxetine, you may experience withdrawal symptoms such as mood changes, irritability, agitation, dizziness, numbness or tingling in the hands or feet, anxiety, confusion, headache, tiredness, and difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually.
Avatar n tn Sabrina, yes paxil, like all the other ssri's can cause weight gain. The medication that doesn't is wellbutrin, or if anxiety is the main symptom, klonopin. You should adjust to tiredness within a week, if not, then maybe the dose is too high for you. Re obesity, you have to learn how to stop stress eating, which is probably more difficult for you because of your anxiety. the best way to do that is to take the course at www.shrinkyourself.com, or consult a therapist.
Avatar n tn • the Tricyclic antidepressants such as Amitriptyline (Elavil), Imipramine (Tofranil), and Doxepin (Sinequan) • the Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) such as Tranylcypromine (Parnate), Isocarboxazid (Marplan) and Phenelzine (Nardil) • the Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as Paroxetine (Paxil) • the atypical anti-depressants such as Mirtazapine (Remeron) and Trazodone.
Avatar f tn , and she took me off Zoloft immediately and put me on Fluoxetine 20 mg. X 1 week and then bumped me to 40 mg. I experiended severe nausea and no appetite. 6 weeks later, I still have nausea from the Fluoxetine. Panic attacks are a little better but I am beginning to think I should have stayed on Zoloft because I can't recall feeling this bad. I am now seeing a psychiatrist and they have taken me down to 30 mg. of Fluoxetine in hopes of helping my nausea.
Avatar f tn It is not the medication, it is the weight gain, The tissue at the top and back of the throat builds up fat deposits when you gain weight, and this in turn reduces your airway causing a vibration in this tissue, thus Snoring Other causes would be Sleep Apnea, when breathing stops during sleep and you have reduced oxygen levels, Acid Reflux Disease, where stomach acid backs up into the esophagus during sleep, the throat tissue becomes inflamed and swells up and reduces air flow, thus causing snor
13017155 tn?1429020488 I know that you cant be told that it definitely wont make you gain weight. My doctor says its had the least complaints of weight gain as a side effect. As to where Zoloft has had many complaints of weight gain. Like I said before.. Zoloft put a massive amount of weight on me. My daughter also has gained 70 lbs from it and was recently swithced to something else. I figured it was just me that my daughter wouldnt be affected the way I was from it. But I was wrong.
Avatar m tn She has lived this lifestyle for 4 yrs. Was put on phenteramine 10 wks. ate even less no weight loss. Also fluoxetine. no longer takes this. She has no appetite so a suppressant to help with overeating is not necessary bec she doesn't ever overeat, she never has. She maintains this regime in fear of gaining more weight. Nobody will give her a throxine trial. Newest dr. feels she has a low BMR and wants to retest that. She is a high achieving student, lifeguard, and voluteer.
Avatar f tn I have been on both citalopram and prozac but citalopram was longterm weight gain, dry mouth and headaches and prozac major short term weight gain. Came of prozac for that reason after only a few months and wonder if it would've settled with time, or go back to the one i was on for 12 years but had some side effects including weight gain. Doc says my last option is mirtazapine but it is also an appetite stimulator.
Avatar n tn Another way to avoid withdrawal is to take fluoxetine (Prozac) for a few weeks after stopping Lexapro (or any other SSRI), then simply stopping the fluoxetine. The very long half-life of fluoxetine causes it to leave the body over a period of months, tapering so slowly that the person doesn't have any withdrawal. My recommendation at this point would be to go back on a low dose of Lexapro--maybe half of what you used to take.
543959 tn?1301315419 we just started the lexapro slowly as i slowly decreased the fluoxetine. fluoxetine stays in your body for several weeks, so withdrawal effects are less likely (and/or less severe) than with other SSRIs. i would speak to your dr. about a slow transition from one med to the other... or give the buspirone a try. buspirone is supposed to be similar to valium in terms of it's anti-anxiety properties. so if you are having trouble with anxiety or panic, this might be a good combination for you.
415867 tn?1323365503 I have been lucky with the lack of weight gain from the medications. My weight gain was due to my own eating habits and lack of working out. Its easy to fix though, can you kick up your cardio and slim down the calorie intake for a bit and see if that helps?
1473147 tn?1286917921 Different meds affect different people differently. What is weight gaining for some isn't for others. You also don't state if you stopped Paxil abruptly and switched to Zoloft, or tapered slowly off Paxil first before switching. Because you are describing Paxil withdrawal -- it's one of the most difficult meds to stop taking and must be done carefully. Just switching to another ssri won't necessarily do anything about withdrawal from a different ssri.
Avatar f tn Try to follow your patterns that you kept while on the medication and that should help with the possible weight gain.
505857 tn?1329681517 It's great that your doctor is helping you, but has (s)he talked to you about therapy/counselling? You've got a lot of stressors right now, and when depression/anxiety is caused mainly by psychosocial stressors, therapy is at least as good as any drug. I'm not saying don't take the drug, because often people need both.
Avatar f tn Did the blurred vision precede the headache? That would indicate a migraine or migraine-like headache. As for the anxiety getting worse, Prozac is known to be the most stimulating ssri and because of that is the least successful one used for anxiety. The good thing about it is that it's the easiest to stop taking and doesn't usually have the weight gain and some other side effects associated with the others.
