Another way to avoid withdrawal is to take fluoxetine (Prozac) for a few weeks after stopping Lexapro (or any other SSRI), then simply stopping the fluoxetine. The very long half-life of fluoxetine causes it to leave the body over a period of months, tapering so slowly that the person doesn't have any withdrawal.
My recommendation at this point would be to go back on a low dose of Lexapro--maybe half of what you used to take.
ll feel good or is it the withdrawal from fluoxetine and the mirtazapine trying to get in my system and over ride the fluoxetine and I will feel better when I'm at a steady dose of mirtazapine.
I take 20 mg of Geodone and Fluoxetine for depression. I forgot to take it one night and didn't sleep at all and later in the day, I began freaking out about my hands. It made no sense, but it brought me to tears because I thought something was wrong with my hands. I started bawling and couldn't stop, I was completely terrified. I was on Wellbutrin before the tumor/surgery and was feeling great. Afterward they put me on fluoxetine and topamax (I no longer have migraines and weaned myself off both). About a month ago I wanted to try stopping the Wellbutrin, and my gp told me to just stop it (300 xl). I was hesitant but decided to try it. My sertraline tablets recently stopped working so well and the GP switched me straight on to fluoxetine. It was a complete nightmare, withdrawal from sertraline plus the side effects from fluoxetine took me to the most terrifying place. I then stopped all ssris and have not had any for 17 days. The first week was awful but then I started to improve, I seemed to get my energy back and I could go out and do things, this was short lived.
My dosages have ranged from 75-125. My shrink has decided to take me off Venlafixine and go back on Fluoxetine. I used to take Fluoxine for 20 something years but went into a BIG depression about 1.5 years ago so I was switched to Venlafaxine. The reasons I am being switched to way too long to type here but this is my question ....
My shrink told me to stop the Venlafaxine one day and start Fluoxetine 20mg the next day. Shrink said there would be NO side effects.

She has been most understanding and is anxious to help me withdraw over a six week period. To that end, she has prescribed Fluoxetine liquid - 6ml per day for 7 days followed by reducing the amount by 1ml every 7 days until I complete the process. I am on the 4th day of this process and am already feeling symptoms such as nausea, headaches, vivid dreams and shakiness. Do you think I will get much worse before these symptoms pass?
So this morning iv put my foot down and told my doctor I knew fluoxetine was doing nothing for me like it had done 3 years ago and needed a change after persuading him and listing all the side effects I was getting he changed me to mirtazapine 30mg to be taken a night with a good drink of liquid my post really is to anyone out there have they had this change and was it better for them?
I am trying to ween off of this drug, I tried quiting in March and had terrible withdrawal symptoms, so when I went back on I started back at half the dosage, 50mg. In April I started taking 25mg/day for 4 weeks, then 12.5mg/day for 4 weeks, then half of that for 4 weeks and now I haven't taken any for 2 weeks. After about 3 days I started feeling sick on my stomach, and it felt like my kidneys hurt, blurred vision, not being able to sleep good, aching at times like I have the flu.
I was given 20mg of Lovan 7 months ago, I had the 4 - 6 weeks of dry mouth, increased anxiety, insomnia and jitters but when they subsided the Fluoxetine (Lovan) worked to a certain degree. 7 weeks ago I quit smoking and after 2 weeks anxiety and depression increased again. I returned to the doctor who increase the fluoxetine (Lovan) to 40mg.
My brother went to a psychiatrist and he prescribed him fluoxetine and xanax. He said that my brother should take one 20mg tablet of fluoxetine for the morning and 0.5 tablet for xanax for morning and night for 14 days . He said to take the 0.5 mg xanax tablet half in morning and the other half at night
So, my brother took the fluoxetine and xanax for 14 days and then again went to the psychiatrist. My brother has not felt any improvement for his ocd or depression from the tablets.
t a good thing if it is withdrawal, because it might just make the withdrawal more intense. Three weeks is usually too short a time for a drug to start working, so there shouldn't be withdrawal, but again, you obviously metabolized the drug very well. And drink a lot of water or tea, again to speed elimination. Exercise can also help do this, particularly cardio. Good luck.
I cannot seem to kick the Daytime sleepiness. I am taking 40 mg, fluoxetine, 150 bupropion. When I was on the bupropion with lamictal it seemed like I had less of this sleepiness.
Is there a possibility that lamictal may help? Anyone with experience on this? Should I up the fluoxetine, up the bupropion, switch bupropion for lamictal , add lamictal, up bupropion?

I have suffered from Depression and anxiety for almost 12 years,have been on and off with medication,for almost 6 years i have been on Imipramine and diazapam,i was handeling situation quite well and completed my graduation,withdrawal of medicine and on ocassional drinking alcohol give me some wreid feeling,i again started taking other medicine,i have different feel,with combination of propananol,imipramine and fluoxetine one day for almost i was so clear in mind not single feel of i was ill,it
m posting this here as well as in the anxiety forums, in the hope that someone may answer. I am taking Fluoxetine 20mg for anxiety and depression, and have been taking it for just over a week. How long before I begin to see any benefits? Also, two more questions - they may seem trivial, but they are bothering me - is it safe to break open the Fluoxetine capsules, as I can not swallow them? Also I am taking 5mg Diazepam - is that safe?
I've had depression for some time and was prescribed fluoxetine a few months ago. In the second and third week of taking it I experienced what I can only describe as mild euphoria and a sort of agitation- not being able to sleep, restlessness and the shakes- which was not unpleasant because of the euphoric feeling that accompanied it.
There's no such thing as a nervous breakdown. You need to get into therapy. As for the medication, you won't know if it'll work until you try it -- we all react differently. Alcohol increases depression and stomach problems, so that's a problem, not a remedy.
