Fluoxetine vs zoloft

Common Questions and Answers about Fluoxetine vs zoloft

prozac

I opted to start 10 mg Prozac just to get my mind back on track so that I could focus on improving my life vs. worrying about the next panic attack. So I'm currently at day 7 and its been a rough ride to say the least. Previously I was taking the Hydroxyzine for anxiety once a week, I have now taken it three days in a row. The worst is usually during the night and morning. As I fall asleep I'm jerked awake as I'm drifting off, which really amps up the anxiety.
Hello, i've just been reading the posts here and just wanted to say that i suffer from anxiety/panic attacks and it does make your life hell. I used to be an outgoing person, bubbly and loved to have a laugh with all my mates.
I heard Zoloft is the most prescribed SSRI, and a recent study of all 12 major anti-depressants concluded that Zoloft was most effective. Does Zoloft cause weight gain? I already take Wellbutrin because a) it has helped me quit smoking cigarettes, and b) helps control my appetite, and c) there aren't sexual side-effects.
I have anxiety issues and have tried fluoxetine, sertraline, (both led to decreased sex drive and lack of orgasm) and now escitalopram (which helped the sexual aspect but still gaining). I am also on requip 0.5mg for my RLS and iron 325mg for my low iron and ferritin. When I have increase in anxiety i take lorazepam which is usually at night for me right before bed. Do any of these combo of drugs increase wt gain? I just don't know where to turn as for as the increasing in wt.
Is there any med our doctor might suggest that you strongly advise AGAINST? Can you recommend a CREDIBLE source for the latest information on drugs to help us weigh risks vs. benefits? I know that's our doctor's role, but what if he is not as well informed as he seems, or is unduly influenced by the pharmaceutical detail people? I fully understand that you have to caveat your response, but I'm terrified of wrecking our son's brain. We have been working on food sensitivities (esp.
Antidepressants, such as fluoxetine (Prozac), sertraline (Zoloft), mirtazepine (Remeron), and etc., are not recommended to treat bipolar alone, because they may actually worsen bipolar by triggering the manic cycle. ******************************************************************************** Per FDA, "Understanding Antidepressant Medications" http://www.fda.gov/forconsumers/consumerupdates/ucm095980.
I realized this year that I have been depressed for a long time now, years maybe. I got started on Zoloft after the birth of my 4th child back in June. That did not seem to do any good at all. I still felt upset, moody, and a lot of the time, worthless. It also lowered my sex drive to boot, and my husband had just returned from deployment and after being gone 10 months we were only having sex maybe once or twice a week.
I remain sexually active and have not noticed any kind of change during periods of activity vs. periods of inactivity (i.e. sex doesn't seem to matter). Two or three times, I have had a pain in the base of my penis while urinating. It wasn't a burning, just a dull "squeezing" pain. I was born and raised vegetarian, although I'm a far cry from a health fanatic. In fact, I'm quite overweight (6'1", almost 300 pounds). I have also recently been in the E.R.
In your shoes....right now after reading what you just wrote above....for today.....I'd start taking Lexapro. It's faster acting, fewer side effects and worked much better for me than Zoloft. There is no "wrong road".....it will fork, or you can turn around and travel down another. You can "bing" zoloft vs. lexapro and find others besides me (ha, of course!) that have taken both zoloft and lexapro and read their experiences and comments.
What makes Alternative Medications seem OK or safer to you? Does 5HTP work? In some people, absolutely. What makes 5HTP different than Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, Lexapro or one of the millions of other anti depressants on the market? FDA Approval. 5HTP was originally marketed as L-Tryptophan. It worked for many people. It was a perscription drug. In 1990 the FDA banned all Tryptophan containing products from the market after an outbreak of a blood disease EMS.
A fascinating research study was published today by Irving Kirsch of the University of Hull, questioning whether or not 4 popular antidepressants are any better than placebo, and found that they weren't any better. Here's the study: http://medicine.plosjournals.org/perlserv/?request=get-document&doi=10.1371/journal.pmed.
I also tend to get pvcs in bursts that occur often several years apart, but which then may last for many months, and the recurrence always freaks me out. You'd think a person would get used to it, but noooooo.... My EKGs, echos, and stress tests show a healthy, fairly normal heart, and having studied human anatomy and physiology, I should be totally reassured by these findings, but the emotional response is a different story.
Through research I have done , I most definitely have an involuntary contraction of the sigmoid sphincter , this has caused the worst problems for me in my life , bloating , constipation , pain, pressure ,looking pregnant and so on , for 25 years I have suffered with this and no doctor has advised me correctly ! .
I will say, though, that I once experience symptoms like you're describing when I started Zoloft with too high of a dose...I went off of it not long after and switched to something else (don't remember what) before ending up with Effexor.
Hi there, I came across your experiences while googling ADs vs. memory loss. I was on Effexor for 7 months in 2002-2003 and it changed my life. Not for the better either. I think my salvation was a great psychiatrist, whom I saw weekly for a year and twice a month for the following year after my divorce. When I was first diagnosed with depression and started taking the drug, I felt as if someone pulled me into a tunnel where everything moved in slow motion. That was spooky!
the first time i tried effexor it was because my zoloft had stopped working after yrs. i lost all my zoloft weight. 25 poinds! it was a miracle. after about four yrs. the effexor stopped working so i tried other anti depressants with no luck. my md put me back on effexor and now i am a fat slob who can't afford to buy any more jeans! i went from a size two to a 7/8 in 5 months. why now? he said it can go either way. i am miserable about my stomach.
I am a 51 year old woman, I started getting these burst of air in the last couple months, I have been diagnosed before i noticed them, with post traumatic stress disorder, and chronic depression and was put on anti anxiety medication, doxepin and now zoloft has been added, I would think it was the medication but my grandson who is 13 and healthy has been experiencing the same thing, we share a home and have oil heat, we heated the upstairs with an electric heater in the beginning of winter to sa
I have suffered from depression my entire life and have been on Zoloft for about 15 years. I noticed when I started taking this medicine that my rocking during the day and obsessive thinking disappeared. I'm ADHD and have been taking Vyvance for almost a year. The quality of my life has improved drastically. I can focus and be more organized. My responsibilities at work got to be too much. I fought taking more medicines but alas.
I am so frustrated! This is not stress related...it never happens when I am stressed out! I am on Zoloft (past 8 years) and was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia many years ago. BUT, this makes it worse, the MD's just blame it on that or stress!
