Common Questions and Answers about Fluoxetine side effects withdrawal

prozac

Avatar f tn Has anyone else taking Fluoxetine (similar to Prozac) experienced side effects? I have noticed some odd changes in the way my body responds to exercise; specifically, excessive sweating. I'm not sure if the medication is directly linked, but in the past year (I have been taking the drug for about 2.5 years) I break into an all over the body sweat very easily, and it has happened even when I'm not exercising.
Avatar f tn After a week and two days of stopping fluoxetine after 5 weeks and starting straight on mirtazapine my mood is really low and snapping at everything and feel rubbish, I can burst out and cry at absolutely anything and come dinner time everyday I have this heavy feeling behind my nose it that means anything to anyone, I've got the shakes have hot sweats and feel sleepy(zombie) all day until tea time where I feel a little human again and then a few hours later I know I'm ready to take the
Avatar m tn I do NOT tolerate these tablets as well and have also tried the 10mg capsules with the same effects (less effective more side effects- nausea, dizziness, fat face, racing thoughts, decreased libido, nightmares, sleep disturbances, etc.).. I have called several pharmacies but they all have the blue tablets too -_-... Th side effects persist even after a month on the different pill forms too.. Any options left? Or must I suck it up and take a pill that makes me sick or discontinue usage...
Avatar f tn Mirtazapine is a good antidepressant and anxiolytic, with few side effects. It doesn't have the SSRI side effects like nausea, headache, initially increased anxiety and GI problems. In fact, due to the pharmacological profile it actually counteracts these side effects from SSRIs, which is why the combination is fairly common. It's a strong sedative (from the antihistaminergic effects) and can give you an energy boost the next day (from the noradrenergic effects).
Avatar f tn My sertraline tablets recently stopped working so well and the GP switched me straight on to fluoxetine. It was a complete nightmare, withdrawal from sertraline plus the side effects from fluoxetine took me to the most terrifying place. I then stopped all ssris and have not had any for 17 days. The first week was awful but then I started to improve, I seemed to get my energy back and I could go out and do things, this was short lived.
543959 tn?1301315419 fluoxetine stays in your body for several weeks, so withdrawal effects are less likely (and/or less severe) than with other SSRIs. i would speak to your dr. about a slow transition from one med to the other... or give the buspirone a try. buspirone is supposed to be similar to valium in terms of it's anti-anxiety properties. so if you are having trouble with anxiety or panic, this might be a good combination for you. all the best..
Avatar f tn Next time, taper off slowly, as slowly as you need, because you never know when a bad withdrawal will happen and the brain can cause weird side effects you never had before as it tries to adapt back to working naturally.
Avatar n tn I have been on 20mg of Fluoxetine for 3 weeks. Due to horrid side effects (dizziness, panic attacks, suicidal thoughts) my psychiatrist is taking me off of it. The suicidal thoughts are gone but I'm still waking up panicked, upset stomach, and go through the day mildly dizzy. It's been two days on 0mg. Roughly how long for these to disappear?
Avatar f tn yes anti depressants can cause mania type reactions - usually in bipolar people, th'at is why I don't take them. Maybe get a second opinion on the diagnosis, that is not a particularly normal reaction for unipolar depression, When they were still giving bipolar patients anti-depressents regularly I tried every variety and had a particular problem with SSRI's.
Avatar f tn I was on fluoxetine for over 6 years without any side effects, then i came off it for 6 months ,I then had to go back on it ,but it started to cause a stuffy blocked nose and ear and head pressure which then resulted in pain in and around the eye ,has anyone heard of this and has this happened to anyone else?
1817640 tn?1323045243 All of the medications have different side effects. I would journal what you are feeling so that you can keep track of it day-to-day. Since it does take 4-6 weeks for these medications to really start working, you may be having a combination of side effects and the anxiety you already had. Try to eat even though you don't feel like it. Even if it is a lot of small meals during the day. Of course if your nausea turns into vomiting, then you need to call your doctor ASAP.
Avatar f tn Not to worry though, give it a couple weeks atleast for your system regulate and get use to the new drug and its effects. Of course if after 2-3 weeks these side effects remain bothersome contact your doctor, it may be this is not the anti-depressant for you. I hope that helps. Good luck, Shanna please private message me anytime as I have much experience with fluoxetine.
527657 tn?1214051850 I was jus put on Fluoxetine an so far i havent noticed any side effects other then on new years eve when i had a small drink i felt alil sick but it went away after 20 mins havent had anything sense.
Avatar f tn just a quick question if anybody can answer it for me dose a dose increase in fluoxetine (prozac) cause any side effects? I'm going from 20mg per day to 40mg tonight due to the fact i'm feeling the 20mg isn't working as good as it has done for me.
Avatar m tn After quitting sertraline, all these went away, but the depression came back, so I tried Moclobemide, ending up with ever more severe side effects and more anxiety as well.
Avatar m tn I quit because it wasnt doing anything at all, nothing it claimed and was supposed to do. Plus i experience bad side effects and i was failing school due to it, right now I have messed up my first 3 yrs of University due to the meds and the inability of my doctor to handle my ocd and depression correctly. He never once mentioned and attempted CBT or ERP with me i just recently learned of these and research show they are effective.
Avatar f tn Did you taper off the vibryd or quit abruptly? You can't just switch from one medication to another even in the same class and avoid withdrawal -- these meds are not easy to stop taking and it must be done carefully. Unless you completely stop taking a medication before starting another it's impossible to tell if your symptoms are a sign you're suffering withdrawal and quit too quickly or are side effects of the new medication.
968908 tn?1274871115 The psychiatry told me the ssri, fluoxetine are very good and not much side effects but i hardly believed they are more good but hard to say because everyone react to medications different.Have you read the book by Dr claire weekes, hope and help for ur nerves i think she explained the best way on how to cope and recovered from both depression and anxiety as she was once a sufferer herself too.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your reply, but I do know the side effects of Fluoxetine. I'm trying to fix the side effects...
Avatar f tn About a month ago I went to see a psych and he put me on 40mg of fluoxetine and told me to come back in a month and a half to up the dosage. However, I'm not sure if it's working for me... or if I'm just getting bad side effects. Within the month that the psych left me I had to go through a length and painful trial, to which the fluoxetine just made feel completely numb, I know I should feel sad but for some reason I can't cry.
1679320 tn?1306382914 Hi I'm new to this forum. I just started the same meds on Sunday 7/3. Seems to have taken the edge off already, but I'm still feeling very anxious, nervous and am tired of my hands being all clammy. How long does it take to feel normal again? Starting some therapy next week...can't wait.
