Fluoxetine side effects in men

Common Questions and Answers about Fluoxetine side effects in men

prozac

Avatar f tn Has anyone else taking Fluoxetine (similar to Prozac) experienced side effects? I have noticed some odd changes in the way my body responds to exercise; specifically, excessive sweating. I'm not sure if the medication is directly linked, but in the past year (I have been taking the drug for about 2.5 years) I break into an all over the body sweat very easily, and it has happened even when I'm not exercising.
Avatar f tn Since it takes about a month or 6 weeks for most people to have beneficial effects kick in, the side effects start well before the desired ones. Your choice is, can you tolerate the side effects for 4-6 weeks to see if the benefits come and outweigh them, or are they just too much to tolerate and this isn't the medication for you.
Avatar m tn I do NOT tolerate these tablets as well and have also tried the 10mg capsules with the same effects (less effective more side effects- nausea, dizziness, fat face, racing thoughts, decreased libido, nightmares, sleep disturbances, etc.).. I have called several pharmacies but they all have the blue tablets too -_-... Th side effects persist even after a month on the different pill forms too.. Any options left? Or must I suck it up and take a pill that makes me sick or discontinue usage...
Avatar f tn I was on fluoxetine for over 6 years without any side effects, then i came off it for 6 months ,I then had to go back on it ,but it started to cause a stuffy blocked nose and ear and head pressure which then resulted in pain in and around the eye ,has anyone heard of this and has this happened to anyone else?
1817640 tn?1323045243 Of course if your nausea turns into vomiting, then you need to call your doctor ASAP. You should see a bit of relief in the side effects as the days go on...if you don't then again, call your doctor. We have all been in your shoes. We have all wanted to throw in the towel before the benefits are really achieved but when you perservere through it, you will feel so much better. Try an over the counter heartburn med like prilosec for now.
527657 tn?1214051850 I was jus put on Fluoxetine an so far i havent noticed any side effects other then on new years eve when i had a small drink i felt alil sick but it went away after 20 mins havent had anything sense.
Avatar f tn Not to worry though, give it a couple weeks atleast for your system regulate and get use to the new drug and its effects. Of course if after 2-3 weeks these side effects remain bothersome contact your doctor, it may be this is not the anti-depressant for you. I hope that helps. Good luck, Shanna please private message me anytime as I have much experience with fluoxetine.

Avatar f tn just a quick question if anybody can answer it for me dose a dose increase in fluoxetine (prozac) cause any side effects? I'm going from 20mg per day to 40mg tonight due to the fact i'm feeling the 20mg isn't working as good as it has done for me.
Avatar m tn After quitting sertraline, all these went away, but the depression came back, so I tried Moclobemide, ending up with ever more severe side effects and more anxiety as well.
Avatar f tn About a month ago I went to see a psych and he put me on 40mg of fluoxetine and told me to come back in a month and a half to up the dosage. However, I'm not sure if it's working for me... or if I'm just getting bad side effects. Within the month that the psych left me I had to go through a length and painful trial, to which the fluoxetine just made feel completely numb, I know I should feel sad but for some reason I can't cry.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your reply, but I do know the side effects of Fluoxetine. I'm trying to fix the side effects...
1679320 tn?1306382914 My doctor said it will take me a few weeks before the side effects subside. She said they should only kick in once i start taking a full tablet.
Avatar f tn After about a week to 10 days the shaky side effects wore off for me and like you I went back to feeling down again. Now 3 weeks in my Doc upped my dose to 300mg, the 150mg was the starter dose. I just accepted the unpleasant effects (anxiety, lack of sleep, irritability) as my body getting used to a new med. beacuse I knew the positive out weighed the negative because WellB. does do wonders for my depression, i have started going back to the gym and feel more of a purpose in my day.
Avatar m tn Try the generic version of prozac..called fluoxetine. It comes in white tablets. Pills and capsules seem to vary in their effects with this medication.
6021583 tn?1413069126 You can have start up side effects when starting a new med. This can include increased anxiety. The side effects usually get better in a few days. I hope your Dr does call you back. This med should be tapered with the help of your Dr. If he does'nt call by mid day give him a call.
Avatar n tn Combining fluoxetine or paroxetine with phenytoin can also lead to increased phenytoin side effects and reduce blood levels of paroxetine. You really need to discuss the potential drug interactions with your own doctor.
1817640 tn?1323045243 You are on an SSRI medication and from personal experience (on Lexapro) I can tell you it can take a while for the medication to ramp up in your system and start showing therapeutic effects. Like you I went through some nasty side effects for about the first 2-3 weeks. To the point where I was about to throw in the towel but I can tell you now that I am SO GLAD I didn't because it is working and I feel much better.
Avatar f tn Mirtazapine is a good antidepressant and anxiolytic, with few side effects. It doesn't have the SSRI side effects like nausea, headache, initially increased anxiety and GI problems. In fact, due to the pharmacological profile it actually counteracts these side effects from SSRIs, which is why the combination is fairly common. It's a strong sedative (from the antihistaminergic effects) and can give you an energy boost the next day (from the noradrenergic effects).
Avatar f tn As most people taking anti depressants would say it takes 1-2 months to get the benefits and also putting up with possible side effects. I personally had the side effects of extreme tiredness/ lethargy, lack of motivation and slight Nausea. After four weeks I still get anxiety but I'm more in control and it doesn't go 'so deep'. My doctor has recently increased my dose to 100mg and only feeling ok but still have to tiredness.
Avatar m tn One of the side effects of this particular antidepressant fluoxetine is excessive yawning. Read the leaflet that comes with the medication and you will read it in the side effects section.
1063764 tn?1272821064 The result of this interaction is an increase in melatonin side effects (eg. headache, nausea, and increased drowsiness). Whether this results in any real danger (in most cases) is doubtful, although the literature does not recommend taking melatonin and fluvoxamine together. The drug interaction between fluvoxamine and melatonin is probably due to fluvoxamine's inhibition of the cytochrome P450 system (CYP); specifically CYP1A2 and CYP2C9 isoenzymes.
Avatar f tn Even if they are safe you might have a bad reaction to them, Prozac is an SSRI and have carries side effects, it can make some people suicidal. If you are feeling depressed post again and we can help.
Avatar m tn The cause is without a doubt the fluoxetine. Low doses would cause light problems and as soon as I stopped the problems completely went away. But then the doctor tripled the dose and then the problems became much more severe and permanent. I do think that my sex drive is low, even though I want to have sex and masturbate but when I try to do it I have problems with my erection.
Avatar n tn Long story short, after 3 weeks of being on the increased dosage if I persist and wait a few more weeks will the side effects to go away, is it normal for an increase in dosage to have this affect and how long do the side effects usually last? Or should I go back to my GP and be reducing back down to 20mg until I see the psychiatrist. If it is likely these are just interim side effects I can persist for another few weeks.
