I was prescribed Fluoxetine about 6 months ago for (ironically) compulsive eating and low mood. I had terrible side effects for the first month (exhausted, depressed, just wanted to lie in bed all day). The only plus was that I lost my appetite. I stuck it out and once the side effects cleared I felt great - more sociable/connected to people and increased confidence (and libido!).

also, I really need to gain some weight back so does fluoxetine give anyone an INCREASED appetite? Thank you for your help! Also, I'm taking it at night... do any of you think that is a bad idea?

I have just started Fluoxetine a few days ago, which I have already had some nightmares and loss of appetite from. I know they say it takes at least two weeks to kick in but I was taking St John's wort prior to this (my doc knew of this) My serotonin levels were extremely low. She has lived this lifestyle for 4 yrs. Was put on phenteramine 10 wks. ate even less no weight loss. Also fluoxetine. no longer takes this. She has no appetite so a suppressant to help with overeating is not necessary bec she doesn't ever overeat, she never has. She maintains this regime in fear of gaining more weight. Nobody will give her a throxine trial. Newest dr. feels she has a low BMR and wants to retest that. She is a high achieving student, lifeguard, and voluteer.

I suggested he put her on antidepress tabs and he has pres fluoxetine 20mg caps. for the grieving but my mum refuses to take them. what do you think her prognosis is if no chemo administered. my mum has no pain only tenderness in abdomen which her report says is omental seeding and the peritoneum.
