These are the same medication, one generic, one not. Hair loss is not a side effect of this medication. But I think it may be a clue to what may be causing your depression. See an Endocrinologist and have your thyroid checked (don't have it done by your GP). If your thyroid is not working properly it not only causes hair loss but depression! I have problems w/ADHD, Anxiety that I take medication for (dexadrin and fluoxetine) and assumed that the symptoms were probably associated w/it. i also have problems w/severe menstrual cramps,, hair loss, and hair breakage. The list goes on. However, while searching for info on the profuse sweating, I found that I had symptoms of hyperthyroidism. My symptoms of ADHD have worsened and now I wonder if it isn't my thyroid. What do you think? And........what should I do?

I've just started up fluoxetine (prozac) for the second time and am having trouble functioning. Does anyone know when they started to feel ANY relief from anxiety? also, I really need to gain some weight back so does fluoxetine give anyone an INCREASED appetite? Thank you for your help! Also, I'm taking it at night... do any of you think that is a bad idea?

At the moment, the hair loss isnt too bad and my emotions and general wellbeing are my priority. Obviously losing any more hair wouldnt be ideal though..!

My brother went to a psychiatrist and he prescribed him fluoxetine and xanax. He said that my brother should take one 20mg tablet of fluoxetine for the morning and 0.5 tablet for xanax for morning and night for 14 days . He said to take the 0.5 mg xanax tablet half in morning and the other half at night So, my brother took the fluoxetine and xanax for 14 days and then again went to the psychiatrist. My brother has not felt any improvement for his ocd or depression from the tablets.

Anyone one been on fluoxetine and not had any problems with weight gain before I went on them July 2012 I was a nice 9 half stone I'm now up to 13 stone and feeling awful? Would be good to know if sum ones had the same problem and had change of meds and what to.

Hi all, I won't go into my very long story. I have just started Fluoxetine a few days ago, which I have already had some nightmares and loss of appetite from. I know they say it takes at least two weeks to kick in but I was taking St John's wort prior to this (my doc knew of this) My serotonin levels were extremely low. I was weepy but not depressed, well, maybe a bit around period time! Anyways, I have since found out the generic is Fluoxetine but the trade name is Prozac.

I cannot seem to kick the Daytime sleepiness. I am taking 40 mg, fluoxetine, 150 bupropion. When I was on the bupropion with lamictal it seemed like I had less of this sleepiness. Is there a possibility that lamictal may help? Anyone with experience on this? Should I up the fluoxetine, up the bupropion, switch bupropion for lamictal , add lamictal, up bupropion? Thoughts?

f 56, past 39 years i am taking sleeping pills, now my pdoc has added propranolol 10 mg. i also take olanzipine and fluoxetine combo. i have hypothyroidism and am overweight. my family doesn't talk to me and i have no friends my niece has threatened to finish me. i am very scared. i heard that propranolol causes memory loss. if so how wil i cope with creeping old age.

I went to the doctors and saw a new doctor 5 weeks ago and he said he would take me off trazadone 50mg and to start taking fluoxetine i asked him when i take the fluoxetine he said today and in 4 weeks he will cut down my trazadone. But the 4 week appointment he was not in so i cancelled it.

Low iron levels can cause hair loss. You might want to get that checked.

I'm losing hair too. Not in clumps but I clog the drain once a week from my hair loss. And all my friends said their hair was so full and healthy during pregnancy and after lost some. I get a ball of hair during evey wash and its not normal for me also my scalp itches like crazy and I don't have bugs lol o had my husband check lol!

I actually posted about this a month or so ago. I have hair loss that really started post Tx. My hair didn't grow hardly at all during Tx, than about 6 weeks post Tx it really started falling out, probably lost 50%. Everyone says it should grow back fine after 6 months post Tx.
