Is the generic version of Prozac as good as the name brand one? Any experience with either?

Hey, I have been taking the generic fluoxetine hydrochloride 10 mgs tablets for about 1.5 years now. My pharmacy recently changed manufacturers and the tablets are now blue... I do NOT tolerate these tablets as well and have also tried the 10mg capsules with the same effects (less effective more side effects- nausea, dizziness, fat face, racing thoughts, decreased libido, nightmares, sleep disturbances, etc.).. I have called several pharmacies but they all have the blue tablets too -_-...

Carbamazepine is the generic name for tegretol with dose 600-1600mg. This is one of 3 most classical drugs for bipolarity used especially in Britain (lithium, tegretol, depakote) and have become standard for half a century. In the USA they don't use it often because of its interactions with other drugs. They substitute it for oxcarbazepine (trileptal) 1200-2400mg. The latrter has less interactivity with other drugs.

d like to make the switch from this effete, ersatz, generic fluoxetine 80 mg/day to Vivactil (brand only, not the generic protriptyline), because the change can take place almost as once -- no washout periods to disable my functioning completely that I have read about, yet. I was just wondering if anyone felt like posting how they extol the virtues of Vivactil -- good experiences, troubles, complications, or even people who hated it!

Fluoxetine is generic Prozac. I've been on it a few times, and I'm back on it again. It will take 4-6 weeks before you begin to feel a difference (sometimes sooner). But it will happen. The only side effect I've ever had from it was insomnia, but that always goes away in a few weeks, so give it some time. As far as alcohol goes, you don't say how much you drank, but I have had a couple of beers now and then on fluoxetine without any problems.

Once that rules out anything organic, then they truly need to help you with some anti-anxiety medication like Paxil (paroxetine is the generic name) or Prozac (fluoxetine is generic name), or Celexa (citalopram is generic name) or even Lexapro (escitalopram is generic name). Those are long acting anti-anxiety or anti0depressant medications. In addition to that, they should also give you a short term supply of some rapid acting anti-anxiety medication like Xanax, or Valium, or Ativan.

I have been diagnosed with an Anxiety Disorder. I have been on four different medications; the first one was Lexapro, which made me extremely tired, then Cymbalta which made me extremely paranoid, a generic version of Zoloft, I can't remember the name which I gained 15 to 20 pounds before I realized it was the medicine, and the latest one is fluoxetine(? generic Prozac) which doesn't appear to be helping, I'm still anxious (crabby) so I went off that one as well.

Increased sweating is a common side effect of Prozac (Fluoxetine is the generic for Prozac so it is the exact same thing). For most patients the sweating settles down after a month or two after start of therapy...but not for all. Some patients that struggle with the sweating issue with take their Prozac at bedtime to try to minimize this side effect, but even that doesn't always work. Keep in mind that there are other anti-anxiety/depression choices out there if you are willing to try.

I've been taking Fluoxetine (generic Prozac) for a few years now and about 6 months ago I upped my dosage. My sex drive on the lower dose was already low, but now it's almost non-existent. At first it wasn't a problem because I haven't been seeing anyone, but now that I am I would really like to try and fix this problem. Since I'm female feel like this is going to be a more difficult process. Would anyone know of any supplements that can help this side effect??

I take ativan which is the brand name for loemopam because that generic did not work for me one bit either. I felt no difference. So I went on the brand name and it it working wonders for me.

----I stabilized completely last summer and I was on the brand name version of the medication. When I switched over to the generic, I started having problems and had to increased the dose from 900mgs to 1600mgs over the space of a few months. Any changes in the dosages over this time dropped me into a deep depression and I HAD to drop the dosage many times because it was agitating me. I just assumed it was because I was adjusting to the medication.

I asked the pharmacist and she said that the generic is just as good as the name brand. Muscle blast costs about 17 dollars and you can find it at Smiths, Rite-aid, and I think GMC. To Scott, as difficult as it would be (and I know you are coming off something harder than I am, so it's not like I am saying it should be as doable as it was for me), please try to get stuff for this, and once you take this stuff, I am telling you, it all gets better to go through it.
