698519 tn?1228122694 If you are not in the 12 step program, please consider for both your alcohol recovery and recovery from bulimia. American Psychiatric Association Eating Disorder Guidelines reports that 22% of bulimics have criteria for alcohol abuse. You are not alone. Avatar m tn My brother went to a psychiatrist and he prescribed him fluoxetine and xanax. He said that my brother should take one 20mg tablet of fluoxetine for the morning and 0.5 tablet for xanax for morning and night for 14 days . He said to take the 0.5 mg xanax tablet half in morning and the other half at night So, my brother took the fluoxetine and xanax for 14 days and then again went to the psychiatrist. My brother has not felt any improvement for his ocd or depression from the tablets.

Avatar n tn Except for my teenage and college years, when I struggled on and off with bulimia for roughly 10 years. I stopped completely about 5 years ago, and have never had another episode. Last year, I suddenly started experiencing heart palpitations. I went through the whole workup - Holter monitor, stress test, echo, cardiac MRI, and then another 2-week event monitor. The doc said I'm having PVC's and a few runs of NSVT, but otherwise my heart looks structurally fine.
Avatar m tn I cannot seem to kick the Daytime sleepiness. I am taking 40 mg, fluoxetine, 150 bupropion. When I was on the bupropion with lamictal it seemed like I had less of this sleepiness. Is there a possibility that lamictal may help? Anyone with experience on this? Should I up the fluoxetine, up the bupropion, switch bupropion for lamictal , add lamictal, up bupropion? Thoughts?
Avatar n tn I am recovering from bulimia, and have been for about three months now. I was bulimic for 7 years (I started at age 16), and only ceased for two healthy pregnancies. I didn't realize all the harm I was causing to my body. I really don't know much about it, but I guess I am curious if my body will ever get back to normal. How long, if ever, will it take for your metabolism to return to normal? Is it possible to get cancer from throat damage?
6021583 tn?1413069126 I went to the doctors and saw a new doctor 5 weeks ago and he said he would take me off trazadone 50mg and to start taking fluoxetine i asked him when i take the fluoxetine he said today and in 4 weeks he will cut down my trazadone. Avatar f tn m posting this here as well as in the anxiety forums, in the hope that someone may answer. I am taking Fluoxetine 20mg for anxiety and depression, and have been taking it for just over a week. How long before I begin to see any benefits? Also, two more questions - they may seem trivial, but they are bothering me - is it safe to break open the Fluoxetine capsules, as I can not swallow them? Also I am taking 5mg Diazepam - is that safe?
Avatar f tn There's no such thing as a nervous breakdown. You need to get into therapy. As for the medication, you won't know if it'll work until you try it -- we all react differently. Alcohol increases depression and stomach problems, so that's a problem, not a remedy.

Avatar f tn I've had depression for some time and was prescribed fluoxetine a few months ago. In the second and third week of taking it I experienced what I can only describe as mild euphoria and a sort of agitation- not being able to sleep, restlessness and the shakes- which was not unpleasant because of the euphoric feeling that accompanied it.

Avatar n tn Hi everyone, I'm wondering if anyone on this forum has a history with bulimia and might attribute your heart problems to bulimic activity? I've started experiencing PVC's and NSVT about 1 year ago, and had a 10-year history with bulimia during my teen/college years. I've stopped for over 5 years now, but am wondering if it's possible that I damaged my heart in some way.
Avatar m tn Often eating disorders can revolve around control, fear, and self-loathing, which after sexual abuse can be triggered in a person. But trully, there is no 1 proven cause for bulimia, there are only theories and similarities between bulimics, but cases can be different for each person.
Avatar n tn I have been a struggling with bulimia on and off for about 10 years. More recently, I am suffering with anxiety pain in my ride side and insomnia collectively. Could this be related to the long term effects of bulimia and what should I do first.
Avatar f tn The recurrent use of inappropriate compensatory behaviors to prevent weight gain is another essential feature of Bulimia. Many individuals with Bulimia employ several methods in their attempt to compensate for binge eating. The most common compensatory technique is self-induced vomiting after an episode of binge eating. The immediate effects of vomiting include relief from physical discomfort and reduction of fear of gaining weight.

1560494 tn?1294843840 I believe that digestive problems are linked to bulima. I have read this somewhere. I also have suffered from bulimia for many years, and have been diagnosed with Irritable Boweld Disease, but now I have come to realize that my digestive problems are from my bulimia. I have messed up my body so much that I have to take something everyday in order to go to the bathroom, if I don't I will go days without.

Avatar f tn A study done in 2009 by the Department of Behavioral Science at Eastern Virginia Medical School concluded that selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, are one type of prescription medication effective for this disorder. Some common SSRIs include fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, paroxetine and sertraline.
