Avatar n tn I know there are a lot of fluoride haters out there, and there are claims that fluoride causes thyroid issues. I tried to do an internet search for respected, peer-reviewed studies on the matter, but all I find are articles from sites like "Stop the Thyroid Madness" or "Fluoride Alert" or other conspiracy theory/scare tactic sites.

4274823 tn?1388529098 Has anyone else read about or experienced the effect of fluoride on thyroid function? According to The Complete Idiot's Guide to Thyroid Disease by Dr. Alan Christianson and Hy Bender copyright 2011, "Fluoride is so effective at reducing T4 and T3 production that it's used as a a treatment for hyperthyroidism. If you're on the verge of being hypothyroid, though, fluoride is likely to push you over the edge.

Avatar m tn I recently bought a stannous fluoride rinse from my dentist's office. This is what they recommend and I believe the only one they sell. I have a porcelain crown and a few composite fillings. I have recently read that stannous fluoride can etch of damage these restorations. When I asked the receptionist at the office, I was assured that it was completely safe for the restorations. Is stannous fluoride safe for porcelain crowns and composite fillings? Thanks!
1972798 tn?1355549267 I live in NJ and when my oldest was about a year or so she was given liquid vitamins that contained fluoride. Some water supplies have fluoride added, but apparently ours didn't. Since too much is harmful I would wait and see what your LO's dr. has to say about it in the future. If there is fluoride on your water no supplements would be needed.
Avatar f tn The amount in toothepaste might not be enough to interfere, the amount in fluoride tablets definately is. In fact, in the past fluoride pills were used as threatment for hyperthyroid. Also, since fluoride pills are usually taken if you live an an area that doesn't have fluoridated water theorectically the pills would only be replacing the amount of fluoride you would normally get from tap water there is a chance that highly fluoridated tap water could interefere with thyroid meds.
Avatar m tn My brother went to a psychiatrist and he prescribed him fluoxetine and xanax. He said that my brother should take one 20mg tablet of fluoxetine for the morning and 0.5 tablet for xanax for morning and night for 14 days . He said to take the 0.5 mg xanax tablet half in morning and the other half at night So, my brother took the fluoxetine and xanax for 14 days and then again went to the psychiatrist. My brother has not felt any improvement for his ocd or depression from the tablets.
Avatar n tn stannous and APF do have contraindications in what patients they should not be used. Why? Stannous may well...stain restorations. APF contraindications too include restorations and patients with hypersensitivity. In such cases Neutral Sodium is used as it works well and does not have any contraindications with restorations or hypesensitivity. You were asking whenever it is okay to use such a strong mouthwash.
Avatar n tn Well water can have too little or too much natural fluoride. If you just give your child extra fluoride you could be doing more harm. Your children have permanent teeth forming now and too much fluoride can cause defects or what we call hypocalcified enamel which is very weak and most of these teeth usually end up needing to be crowned in the future. I wouldn't worry if you guys have city water because you can put that in their juices and get it to them that way.
Avatar n tn Hello Jerome Tsang I tryed to google non-fluoride toothpaste available in the market but Im not seeing it. Do you know or have any suggestions on to how to find non-fluoride toothpaste available in the market?
Avatar m tn I cannot seem to kick the Daytime sleepiness. I am taking 40 mg, fluoxetine, 150 bupropion. When I was on the bupropion with lamictal it seemed like I had less of this sleepiness. Is there a possibility that lamictal may help? Anyone with experience on this? Should I up the fluoxetine, up the bupropion, switch bupropion for lamictal , add lamictal, up bupropion? Thoughts?
Avatar n tn Annvdb1986, Calculus forms from biofilm (in the past known as plaque). Without going into too much detail - the biofilm attaches to the tooth, biofilm is not removed, it is mineralized -> calculus formed. The biofilm LOVES to stay in hard to reach places, overhanging restorations (amalgam with big, bulky angles is a good example), open contacts (teeth not touching each other) and other fun places. The calculus can easily be removed by dental hygienists.
Avatar f tn I was given a fluoride treatment and an Rx fluoride to home-treat nightly until my appointment for fillings. The home stuff says it can stop the progress of decay. Anyway, I've done no independent research but I do trust my dentist, and she is familiar with HCV (I'm not her only patient with it).

Avatar f tn After I had dental cleaning and fluoride treatment I noticed these brown streaks in five of my fingernails. My thumb actually has two of these streaks. The streaks are from beginning of nail to the free edge. Anyone else ever see this?
Avatar f tn ve been doing much research on the subject. There is a ton of information out there about the link between fluoride and hypothyroidism. Supposedly excessive or an accumulation of fluoride over the years can impair iodine absorption, leading to thyroid issues. Someone had mentioned in a previous post about being on Paxil for 3 years and experiencing dramatic weight gain. Well, from what I've researched one of the key ingredients in Paxil (and other SSRIs) is FLUORIDE!
Avatar f tn No, u dont brush their little teeth yet. Check in with ur doctor at her next appointment. But its not necessary right now and she isnt ready to spit and brush even with help. She may choke and it will hurt her gums.
Avatar f tn At the Veterinary News Network, we have been following a story about increased levels of fluoride in bone meal and meat by products in several national brand pet foods. To my knowledge, they still have not released the names of the brands of pet food implicated in this study. The report states that these 8 brands of food had fluoride levels 2.5x higher than drinking water. Unfortunately, we have been unable to uncover any additional evidence of problems.
Avatar m tn but better use borax and after iodine because iodine remove fluoride as calcium fluoride. so not only fluoride cause constipation, it cause osteoporosis, alkalosis, weight loss, chloride deficiency, ****** up stomach anxiety..... please do not use potassium with iodine together as it congest thyroid. nascent, atomic, colloidal, ammonium or even sodium iodine are way better than lugol's. now my tsh is 1.79! the best! and body temperature is 37.1 C last year was 35.
Avatar f tn m posting this here as well as in the anxiety forums, in the hope that someone may answer. I am taking Fluoxetine 20mg for anxiety and depression, and have been taking it for just over a week. How long before I begin to see any benefits? Also, two more questions - they may seem trivial, but they are bothering me - is it safe to break open the Fluoxetine capsules, as I can not swallow them? Also I am taking 5mg Diazepam - is that safe?
527657 tn?1214051850 Fluoxetine is generic Prozac. I've been on it a few times, and I'm back on it again. It will take 4-6 weeks before you begin to feel a difference (sometimes sooner). But it will happen. The only side effect I've ever had from it was insomnia, but that always goes away in a few weeks, so give it some time. As far as alcohol goes, you don't say how much you drank, but I have had a couple of beers now and then on fluoxetine without any problems.
Avatar f tn I've had depression for some time and was prescribed fluoxetine a few months ago. In the second and third week of taking it I experienced what I can only describe as mild euphoria and a sort of agitation- not being able to sleep, restlessness and the shakes- which was not unpleasant because of the euphoric feeling that accompanied it.
Avatar f tn There's no such thing as a nervous breakdown. You need to get into therapy. As for the medication, you won't know if it'll work until you try it -- we all react differently. Alcohol increases depression and stomach problems, so that's a problem, not a remedy.
