Fluoxetine dosage for depression

Common Questions and Answers about Fluoxetine dosage for depression

prozac

Avatar f tn m posting this here as well as in the anxiety forums, in the hope that someone may answer. I am taking Fluoxetine 20mg for anxiety and depression, and have been taking it for just over a week. How long before I begin to see any benefits? Also, two more questions - they may seem trivial, but they are bothering me - is it safe to break open the Fluoxetine capsules, as I can not swallow them? Also I am taking 5mg Diazepam - is that safe?
Avatar f tn I have. 62 20mgs if fluoxetine....i skipped a few days of my pills and want to take them all..what will happen?
1063764 tn?1272821064 I was watching a documentary and heard about a case where a woman was put on niacin supplements for depression. She was taking very large dosages, but it completely pulled her out of her depression. So far fluoxetine has helped me, but I think in time I will need a larger dosage. I would really rather not do that, so my question is: is it safe to take niacin supplements of 100 mg daily plus an extra multivitamin with 20mg. I don't want to end up taking too many vitamins.
1312584 tn?1280934685 Last August I was diagnosed with severe depression and for three months was at rock bottom. After one of my suicide attempts I ended up in hospital and have had many ups and downs since then. I won't say I'm over it because you can never really be sure, but I definitely am a lot stronger.
Avatar m tn My brother went to a psychiatrist and he prescribed him fluoxetine and xanax. He said that my brother should take one 20mg tablet of fluoxetine for the morning and 0.5 tablet for xanax for morning and night for 14 days . He said to take the 0.5 mg xanax tablet half in morning and the other half at night So, my brother took the fluoxetine and xanax for 14 days and then again went to the psychiatrist. My brother has not felt any improvement for his ocd or depression from the tablets.
Avatar f tn please let me know if the dosage i am taking i.e. 1/4 of 20 fluoxetine and 5mg olanzapine combo and 3/4 lorazepam is high or low.
Avatar n tn 7 weeks ago I quit smoking and after 2 weeks anxiety and depression increased again. I returned to the doctor who increase the fluoxetine (Lovan) to 40mg. After about a week anxiety has increased (twisted stomach, short breaths, tense neck and shoulders, I don't want to speak to anyone, cant go to work and I don't want to leave the house and I am generally fearful of everything.
897400 tn?1303329148 Extended treatment with tianeptine decreases the incidence of relapse/recurrence of depression. Tianeptine appears to be as effective as fluoxetine, sertraline, amitriptyline, clomipramine and mianserin and more effective than maprotiline in improving associated anxiety in patients with depressive disorders. Depression and anxiety symptoms in alcohol dependant patients also respond well to tianeptine.
Avatar f tn thanks for the response, yeah i have been diagnosed with anxiety and depression, i am on a very low dose celexa 10 mg, i think its from lack of serotonin, because when i took extra it went away.
Avatar f tn About a month ago I went to see a psych and he put me on 40mg of fluoxetine and told me to come back in a month and a half to up the dosage. However, I'm not sure if it's working for me... or if I'm just getting bad side effects. Within the month that the psych left me I had to go through a length and painful trial, to which the fluoxetine just made feel completely numb, I know I should feel sad but for some reason I can't cry.
Avatar f tn I have been off fluoxetine for about 2 weeks now, because nomattterhow strict my diet, i cant seem to loose weight I gained whilst taking fluoxetine, which was getting me very down. I went to gp who has prescribed me paroxetne. Looking on the web, it seems that this ADis even worse for weight gain, So I now dont know what to do. Avatar m tn I cannot seem to kick the Daytime sleepiness. I am taking 40 mg, fluoxetine, 150 bupropion. When I was on the bupropion with lamictal it seemed like I had less of this sleepiness. Is there a possibility that lamictal may help? Anyone with experience on this? Should I up the fluoxetine, up the bupropion, switch bupropion for lamictal , add lamictal, up bupropion? Thoughts?
Avatar n tn The average dose for Cymbalta is 60mg per day, and although some doctors do prescribe it 120mg per day...there is no evidence to prove that it helps any more than the 60 mg per day. The maximim dose for Prozac is 80mg per day so you're still below the highest dosage on that one. I doubt your doctor will increase the Cymbalta anymore, and if he tries to...find another doctor! Best wishes.
Avatar n tn Hi all! I just started back up on Prozac about three weeks ago now. Come to think of it, it has been 22 days. For the past 22 days, I have been having some awful dizzy spells. When I say dizzy, I don't mean lightheaded or faint. I mean it literally feels like the world is moving when it's not. Anyway, has anyone else experienced this? And if so how long did it take for it to pass? I experienced this with Effexor, previously, and it took exactly one month for it to pass.
Avatar m tn Prozac is used to treat depression , to reduce binge eating and purging activity ( bulimia nervosa) and to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder. Fluoxetine is broken down slowly and remains in the body for several weeks after treatment is stopped. Do not stop the drug without consulting your doctor, who may supervise a gradual reduction in dosage.
Avatar f tn I've had depression for some time and was prescribed fluoxetine a few months ago. In the second and third week of taking it I experienced what I can only describe as mild euphoria and a sort of agitation- not being able to sleep, restlessness and the shakes- which was not unpleasant because of the euphoric feeling that accompanied it.
Avatar m tn Prednisone shouldn't have any interactions with fluoxetine at all. To be honest, I would also be depressed/anxious if I was going through a divorce and worrying about the future. There are some times when depression is normal. It is when it doesn't go away for months on end that you need to see a specialist. This may involve medication or psychotherapy or both.
4049090 tn?1352831854 We are not doctors, just people with depression. Please talk to a doctor about this. I am not sure what your question has to do with depression.
543959 tn?1301315419 we just started the lexapro slowly as i slowly decreased the fluoxetine. fluoxetine stays in your body for several weeks, so withdrawal effects are less likely (and/or less severe) than with other SSRIs. i would speak to your dr. about a slow transition from one med to the other... or give the buspirone a try. buspirone is supposed to be similar to valium in terms of it's anti-anxiety properties. so if you are having trouble with anxiety or panic, this might be a good combination for you.
Avatar f tn Yes I suffer from the same problems as you describe above and have been on and off fluoxetine for several years for major depression and I can reassure you that the side effects as far as increased anxiety at the beginning of treatment are common and I have had to take an antianxiety medication for the first couple of weeks to combat this effect. In 2-3 weeks it should subside and that's usually when I also start to feel the desired effect of fluoxetine.
Avatar f tn many thanks sophie for your response. yes i will restore my normal dosage. meanwhile i will educate myself.
Avatar f tn ve been taking 40mg propanolol 3 times a day for 2 years for anxiety and have just been prescribed 20mg of fluoxetine to be taken daily to tackle depression but the doctor never said anything about stopping taking the propanolol, although everything I've found online says it's a dangerous combination. Is it safe to take them both together or should I be replacing the propranolol with the fluoxetine?
Avatar f tn I have been on Prozac for three months. Thanks for the information I am going to talk to my Dr. about switching medication.
Avatar m tn My depression is since I was 20 years old , it can be say 20 year old depression . I have been on medicine for some time on and off. Now I started to took medicine continuously. Doctor has given me fluoxetine 80 Mg per day morning (4-X-X),Clomipramine 50mg (X-X-2) Respiredone 1 mg at night . I can feel i am less depressed than before but the main problem is I have extreme fatigue , I felt it very difficult to travel highty places got extremelly tired.
Avatar f tn i am taking 80 mg fluoxetine plus 45 - 60 mg buspirone and i was wondering if there is reason for concern about serotonin syndrome with such a cocktail at those dosages. if it's a bad idea to be taking so much of the both of them, it's not necessarily a big deal for me to d/c them as i still lay in bed all day! -- but what's next? thanks...
