ve been taking 40mg propanolol 3 times a day for 2 years for anxiety and have just been prescribed 20mg of fluoxetine to be taken daily to tackle depression but the doctor never said anything about stopping taking the propanolol, although everything I've found online says it's a dangerous combination. Is it safe to take them both together or should I be replacing the propranolol with the fluoxetine?
Hi all been on fluoxetine before now and used to take it at tea time 3 years ago but this time round been on it 5 weeks now and was feeling good after 1-2 weeks but just this last week having difficulty sleeping and feeling rubbish because I thought it was working after the first week anyone suggesting this med is best taken in the morning instead of tea/night time also I'm only taking 20mg not to sure wether this needs increasing if I feel rubbish after feeling good.
m posting this here as well as in the anxiety forums, in the hope that someone may answer. I am taking Fluoxetine 20mg for anxiety and depression, and have been taking it for just over a week. How long before I begin to see any benefits? Also, two more questions - they may seem trivial, but they are bothering me - is it safe to break open the Fluoxetine capsules, as I can not swallow them? Also I am taking 5mg Diazepam - is that safe?

sometimes witht he meds we have to play cat and mouse to see which one works for us. i started zoloft 23 days ago. and finally i think im starting to see relief. have you been to the psych dr instead of a general doctor?.... GP dont know too much about anxiety and stuff like that so a psych would be perfect. also have you been to therapy at all?
My brother went to a psychiatrist and he prescribed him fluoxetine and xanax. He said that my brother should take one 20mg tablet of fluoxetine for the morning and 0.5 tablet for xanax for morning and night for 14 days . He said to take the 0.5 mg xanax tablet half in morning and the other half at night
So, my brother took the fluoxetine and xanax for 14 days and then again went to the psychiatrist. My brother has not felt any improvement for his ocd or depression from the tablets.
ve just been prescribed Fluoxetine 20mg a day, and been taking them for 11 days now. The anxiety symptoms have worsened and I feel v anxious and queasy quite a bit of the day. I've read that these are passing symptoms and that these side effects will go after a couple of weeks. can any one offer a word of kind reassurance? Thank you.
hi i've been taking 20mg of fluoxetine daily for almost 2 years now for depression. taking this medication has helped me but the problem is my weight i have put on a stone in the last 18 months! i am an active person but i also have hypothyrodism for the past 8 years. i am wondering if its the fluoxetine that may have caused my weight gain?
About a month ago I went to see a psych and he put me on 40mg of fluoxetine and told me to come back in a month and a half to up the dosage. However, I'm not sure if it's working for me... or if I'm just getting bad side effects. Within the month that the psych left me I had to go through a length and painful trial, to which the fluoxetine just made feel completely numb, I know I should feel sad but for some reason I can't cry.
I've just started up fluoxetine (prozac) for the second time and am having trouble functioning.
Does anyone know when they started to feel ANY relief from anxiety?
also, I really need to gain some weight back so does fluoxetine give anyone an INCREASED appetite?

I am 4 months postpartum, I got the Mirena IUD at 6 weeks postpartum. I also began taking fluoxetine (20mg) and a low dose of trazadone for postpartum depression and anxiety. My symptoms started approximately 4 weeks after starting these medications. I drink roughly 3/4 glasses of wine per week, and take ibuprofen as needed (roughly 1 or 2 times a week to help relieve sinus headaches) Could the new meds I’m taking be causing the bruising and sweating?
5 years ago I went through some hard times so my doctor put me on 20mg fluoxetine which really helped the depression I was having, but it also made me feel really wired, sweaty, and hyper. It also made my blood pressure spike and stay up. I stayed on them for about a year and decided to stop because it seemed like life had calmed down for me.
Lately I've been having a rough go of it again and have those old feelings creeping back even after seeing a counselor for two years.
For the 1st time ever my doc has increased my dose of fluoxetine from 20mg to 40mg. For the 1st 3 days I felt normal again but out of no where my anxiety & panic levels have increased majorly to the point it feels I am just living in a panic attack constantly. Not sure what to do & feel really really scared & depressed. Is this normal? Can anyone help??
I have been on the 40mg dose, then got changed to 20mg of fluoxetine. Even though it was a change in med and a lesser dose, I felt good. Good enough to go off meds altogether. I'm not saying this will be the case for you, but definitely go see your GP and talk over your options.
Have you tried counselling? Meds are great, but they don't deal with the issues which lead to your depression.
There's no such thing as a nervous breakdown. You need to get into therapy. As for the medication, you won't know if it'll work until you try it -- we all react differently. Alcohol increases depression and stomach problems, so that's a problem, not a remedy.
i eat very well, watch my sugar intake, and exercise 5-6 x a week. I take 20mg of fluoxetine every morning as well as 88 ml of synthroid (started thyroid meds about a year ago,) and on hormone therapy (patch progesterone/dim) for 3 years (post-menopausal.)
My guilty pleasure has always been a glass or two of w/r wine a day (while cooking and during dinner.) Overall ive alway felt pretty good but for the last 2 years i've been feeling a burning sensation on my tongue.
Especially in the mornings I wake up with a pounding heart which persists all day. I know I am having constant anxiety, but since I uped the dose three days ago to 20MG I've been feeling very jittery, like I am about to jump outta my skin!
For people who've taken this, does this go away? Is this normal? How long until I start to CALM down instead of get the jitters?
I was on 20mg of Fluoxetine but it wasn't making me feel any better so I got put on 50 mg of Sertraline. On the packet it says that I have to increase to taking two tablets after two weeks of taking one.
Even though I'm only taking one, I still feel extremely tired and I've begun sleeping much more than I should and it's made me late for college (I'm 17). If this is the case, should I still increase it to two tablets?

Hi, hope someone can help me. I've been prescribed Fluoxetine 20mg by my GP, and I've been taking it for just over a week. I'm also taking 5mg Diazepam. I'm recovering from breast cancer treatment, and now my mum has a lump. This has tipped me over the edge. How long does the Fluoxetine take to work? I know it's longer than a week, but can anyone give me an idea, as the thought of my mum having surgery is freaking me out.

My shrink told me to stop the Venlafaxine one day and start Fluoxetine 20mg the next day. Shrink said there would be NO side effects.
How can this be? I know Fluoxetine takes time to build in systems and Venlafaxine goes out of your body quickly. Wont I have withdrawals and then start to feel bad as the Fluoxetine builds up in my system? Today is day 2 am I'm feeling shaky and weak and just awful.
