1348086 tn?1370783185 Psychiatrist has prescribed me Nortriptyline and is weening me off of Cymbalta. What should expect in both cases? I hear horror stories about Cymbalta withdrawal. He said for me to start taking 30mg of Cymbalta (I've been on 60) and then go ahead and start Nortriptyline so I did last night and the first wonderful thing happened. For about a month now, I had waking up 3 or 4 times a night, until last night. I slept all night. Anyhow, today is my first day without 60Mg of Cymbalta.
Avatar n tn Examples are drugs like beta-blockers (propranolol [Inderal], atenolol [Tenormin]), anticonvulsants (topiramate [Topamax], divalproex [Depakote], carbamazepine [Tegretol]), tricyclic antidepressants (amitriptyline [Elavil], nortriptyline [Aventyl]), and calcium channel blockers (verapamil [Covera]).
Avatar f tn Oh and: "Preliminary research suggests that SAMe is more effective than placebo in treating mild to moderate depression and is just as effective as anti-depressant medications without the side affects frequently associated with the medications (headaches, sleeplessness and sexual dysfunction). Plus, antidepressants tend to take six to eight weeks to begin working, while SAMe seems to begin much more quickly than that.
1063764 tn?1272821064 If you took a lot of both drugs, Melatonin and fluoxetine. Would/could they do any serious damage? I am on fluoxetine and take melatonin regularly.
Avatar m tn My doc. put me on lexapro and it made me feel crazy, didn't help at all and I stopped it, then he tried Paxil and that did the same exact thing, Now I'm on Nortriptyline HCL 25mg, and my question is how long will it take for my depression and anxiety to go away? and at 25mg will it take away my anxiety and depresion, i started off on 10mg, now it's week 3 and I'm on 25mg.
Avatar f tn Yes I suffer from the same problems as you describe above and have been on and off fluoxetine for several years for major depression and I can reassure you that the side effects as far as increased anxiety at the beginning of treatment are common and I have had to take an antianxiety medication for the first couple of weeks to combat this effect. In 2-3 weeks it should subside and that's usually when I also start to feel the desired effect of fluoxetine.
543959 tn?1301315419 hello, just wondered if anyone has any advice, im currently taking 40mg of fluoxetine but feel this is not quite enough, my doc wont prescribe me 60mg dose but instead has given me 10mg buspirone to take alongside the fluoxetine. has anybody taken this combination of meds and is it helpful?
539750 tn?1226521677 The doctor called me back and told me she thinks I have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (don’t know much about it) and is sending me for a bone scan and to see a pain management doctor. I told her about the very bad headache and she told me Nortriptyline is supposed to help with headaches. Yesterday I was sitting on the floor at work and my back was very, very sore. Last night I went ice skating and got a headache (base of skull) so went home. When I got home my legs felt very weak.
Avatar f tn Nortriptyline- oh yeah, I've had experience. I had a constant mild headache while on it, felt like a walking zombie as well, and when I went in and (prior to being diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) the neurologist said my pulse was I think 130, and he said we are discontinuing this drug. I believe I was having a pounding migraine at the time.
Avatar n tn She will need to check for possible triggers from her routine, avoiding them, preventive drugs would include atenolol, nifedipine, anti convulsants like topiramate. Painkillers like NSAIDS can be used to abort an attack, anti depressants like nortriptyline, fluoxetine and triptans like sumatriptan. You need to check for any degenerative disc disease in the spine, particularly cervical spine causing headaches and numbness on left half of the body due to spinal canal stenosis.
Avatar n tn My name is Amy and I'm 26 yrs old. I am trying to concieve and I'm presently not on any medications, however I used to take Lexapro and it works the best for me. I feel as though I'm in great need to be on it again but I am aware that the drug falls under a catagory C (to not take when pregnant) I dont want to put myself at harm so I need to know what anti- depresent to take that would not cause any birth defects or harm to the unborn child.
Avatar f tn not sure what this means.. melatonin reduces the antidepressant effect of fluoxetine.. and then in the last sentence fluoxetine has lead to a measurable depletion of melatonin in people..
Avatar n tn Fluoxetine (Prozac) has the slowest elimination of the SSRIs.
Avatar m tn My brother went to a psychiatrist and he prescribed him fluoxetine and xanax. He said that my brother should take one 20mg tablet of fluoxetine for the morning and 0.5 tablet for xanax for morning and night for 14 days . He said to take the 0.5 mg xanax tablet half in morning and the other half at night So, my brother took the fluoxetine and xanax for 14 days and then again went to the psychiatrist. My brother has not felt any improvement for his ocd or depression from the tablets.
Avatar m tn Concomitant use of tramadol and serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as fluoxetine increases the risk of seizures and serotonin syndrome. It may also reduce the pain relieving properties of the tramadol. If you must take tramadol, do not take it at the same time as fluoxetine. Try to take tramadol and imitrex a few hours apart from the fluoxetine.
Avatar f tn I am 38 years old and 4 and half months pregnant with my first baby. Before getting preg. I was taking 20 mg of fluoxetine once a day. When I first found out I was preg. i stopped. Avatar m tn Thank you Nurse girl, I will try my best, I wish you happy holidays and a great year to come... Do you think my fluoxetine will kick in in days and I will be motivated again? And is it normal sometimes to increase the dosage? I feel very bad because of the increase!
Avatar m tn Lately, I have been having bradycardia issues, specifically in the evening time. My pulse is usually between 48 and 52 beats per minute... which is a bit low for me. I am taking the medicine for hypertension... but since heart disease runs in my family and fish oil has some pretty good evidence behind it, I thought I would take it 2. Any comments, suggestions?
Avatar m tn i just started on fluoxetine and it depends on when you take it, if your taking it in the morning then switching to the evenings should solve the problem.
527657 tn?1214051850 My heart was fluttering and I just felt numb and tingly. Im back on the paxil now that i know works and i can sleep and no side effects. thanks for your reply.
Avatar f tn I've had depression for some time and was prescribed fluoxetine a few months ago. In the second and third week of taking it I experienced what I can only describe as mild euphoria and a sort of agitation- not being able to sleep, restlessness and the shakes- which was not unpleasant because of the euphoric feeling that accompanied it.

Avatar f tn m posting this here as well as in the anxiety forums, in the hope that someone may answer. I am taking Fluoxetine 20mg for anxiety and depression, and have been taking it for just over a week. How long before I begin to see any benefits? Also, two more questions - they may seem trivial, but they are bothering me - is it safe to break open the Fluoxetine capsules, as I can not swallow them? Also I am taking 5mg Diazepam - is that safe?
