Fluoxetine and lexapro

Common Questions and Answers about Fluoxetine and lexapro

prozac

Avatar n tn Another way to avoid withdrawal is to take fluoxetine (Prozac) for a few weeks after stopping Lexapro (or any other SSRI), then simply stopping the fluoxetine. The very long half-life of fluoxetine causes it to leave the body over a period of months, tapering so slowly that the person doesn't have any withdrawal. My recommendation at this point would be to go back on a low dose of Lexapro--maybe half of what you used to take.
543959 tn?1301315419 we just started the lexapro slowly as i slowly decreased the fluoxetine. fluoxetine stays in your body for several weeks, so withdrawal effects are less likely (and/or less severe) than with other SSRIs. i would speak to your dr. about a slow transition from one med to the other... or give the buspirone a try. buspirone is supposed to be similar to valium in terms of it's anti-anxiety properties. so if you are having trouble with anxiety or panic, this might be a good combination for you.
1063764 tn?1272821064 It's hard to see exactly where they would interact, since they work on completely different physiological processes. Then again, everyone has their own peculiarities when it comes to this stuff. Melatonin is a hormone made naturally by the body to set the body clock and as an antioxidant. It doesn't affect serotonin in any direct way, but obviously if you're not sleeping well it won't help serotonin do its thing.
Avatar f tn Has anyone else taking Fluoxetine (similar to Prozac) experienced side effects? I have noticed some odd changes in the way my body responds to exercise; specifically, excessive sweating. I'm not sure if the medication is directly linked, but in the past year (I have been taking the drug for about 2.5 years) I break into an all over the body sweat very easily, and it has happened even when I'm not exercising.
Avatar f tn thanks for that, iv been on Prozac before back in 2011/2012 and weaned off them great but now back on and five and half week in and gone right down hill off only 20mg iv been put on zopiclone for night time as and when I need it but to me I need an increase

Avatar f tn I can usually go untill around 2 or 3 before I start feeling jittery and have to take another Klonopin. I started on the Fluoxetine at 40 mg and I just went to the doctor today and she increased it to 60 mg. Does this medication really work for panic attacks and anxiety? I'm so afraid it won't work, and I just don't feel like myself. Sometimes I cry which does relieve the anixety, but is it normal to be so tearful?
Avatar f tn I was on it during my pregnancies, and I required a higher dose of the Prozac than I did comparitively of the Zoloft and Lexapro in order to have the same level of effectiveness.
Avatar n tn ll see new warnings not to combine tamoxifen with certain SSRIs..paroxetine, fluoxetine, and sertraline. .... Women have a higher risk of breast cancer recurrence if they take tamoxifen along with paroxetine, fluoxetine, or sertraline... but NOT citalopram, escitalopram, or fluvoxamine. .....About 30% of women on tamoxifen also take an SSRI for depression or hot flashes. FDA will add new warnings..
Avatar f tn i am taking lexapro and wellbutrin, i want to get off lexapro and start taking 5-htp instead. dont worry, you may feel this way now but slowly your depression and anxiety will lift over time after about a couple weeks into the medication.
Avatar n tn Is there risk of ending up with some other kind of problem because of the fluoxetine burning my nose, throat and espohagus?
Avatar f tn t mean just impatient or annoyed but physical pain, a weird restless sensation in my nervous system and at the same time feel very depressed and fatigue, when this happens I cant tolerate any noise or people. It seems like this happens about once a week or twice.
Avatar f tn Yes I suffer from the same problems as you describe above and have been on and off fluoxetine for several years for major depression and I can reassure you that the side effects as far as increased anxiety at the beginning of treatment are common and I have had to take an antianxiety medication for the first couple of weeks to combat this effect. In 2-3 weeks it should subside and that's usually when I also start to feel the desired effect of fluoxetine.
Avatar f tn SOme of these medicines just make you feel that way. My dr put me on lexapro and in 3 days I was so agitated, I came off of it.
Avatar f tn Celexa came first, and when the patent ran out, they played with the structure, took some things out, and made Lexapro. Reportedly it has fewer side effects, but who knows if that's really true? I found Celexa easier to take myself, so it just goes to show. But the core of both drugs is the same. For me, the one drug that really put on the weight was Paxil. For others, it's different.
Avatar f tn not sure what this means.. melatonin reduces the antidepressant effect of fluoxetine.. and then in the last sentence fluoxetine has lead to a measurable depletion of melatonin in people..
Avatar f tn ( im at the end of my tether with my post natal anxiety
Avatar n tn Fluoxetine (Prozac) has the slowest elimination of the SSRIs.
Avatar m tn My brother went to a psychiatrist and he prescribed him fluoxetine and xanax. He said that my brother should take one 20mg tablet of fluoxetine for the morning and 0.5 tablet for xanax for morning and night for 14 days . He said to take the 0.5 mg xanax tablet half in morning and the other half at night So, my brother took the fluoxetine and xanax for 14 days and then again went to the psychiatrist. My brother has not felt any improvement for his ocd or depression from the tablets.
Avatar f tn I was on Wellbutrin before the tumor/surgery and was feeling great. Afterward they put me on fluoxetine and topamax (I no longer have migraines and weaned myself off both). About a month ago I wanted to try stopping the Wellbutrin, and my gp told me to just stop it (300 xl). I was hesitant but decided to try it. I lasted about a month and noticed I was starting to feel weird so I went back on (been about 4 weeks now). Here's the question!
1817640 tn?1323045243 It can last up to two weeks but if you're having a lot of side effects give your prescribing doctor a quick call about it. He needs and wants to know how you're doing, and they are used to us calling when we start a new medication. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with an Anxiety Disorder. I have been on four different medications; the first one was Lexapro, which made me extremely tired, then Cymbalta which made me extremely paranoid, a generic version of Zoloft, I can't remember the name which I gained 15 to 20 pounds before I realized it was the medicine, and the latest one is fluoxetine(? generic Prozac) which doesn't appear to be helping, I'm still anxious (crabby) so I went off that one as well.
Avatar m tn Concomitant use of tramadol and serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as fluoxetine increases the risk of seizures and serotonin syndrome. It may also reduce the pain relieving properties of the tramadol. If you must take tramadol, do not take it at the same time as fluoxetine. Try to take tramadol and imitrex a few hours apart from the fluoxetine.
Avatar f tn I am 38 years old and 4 and half months pregnant with my first baby. Before getting preg. I was taking 20 mg of fluoxetine once a day. When I first found out I was preg. i stopped. I recently experienced panic attacks and my doctor prescribed the same medication. Is it safe for my unborn child? I am very concerned please advise me!
Avatar f tn I am wondering why, though, you are starting on Celexa rather than Lexapro. Interesting choice. Lexapro is the newer form of Celexa, and supposedly has fewer side effects than other SSRIs, though whether that's actually turned out to be true or not I don't know. I was on both of them.
