Hi. I've suffered from IBS, anxiety and depression on and off for about 10 yers. I've just been prescribed Fluoxetine 20mg a day, and been taking them for 11 days now. The anxiety symptoms have worsened and I feel v anxious and queasy quite a bit of the day. I've read that these are passing symptoms and that these side effects will go after a couple of weeks. can any one offer a word of kind reassurance? Thank you.
Is there risk of ending up with some other kind of problem because of the fluoxetine burning my nose, throat and espohagus?
I have been off work since then with stress anxiety and depression and was prescribed Fluoxetine which I took for 6 -7 weeks and found I had problematic side effects with this drug. My IBS kicked in and i have been ill with this. I stopped taking the Fluoxetine 3 weks ago and have now developed a rash all over ny body face and neck.
Tiny purplish spots predominate of which some are itchy.
not sure what this means.. melatonin reduces the antidepressant effect of fluoxetine.. and then in the last sentence fluoxetine has lead to a measurable depletion of melatonin in people..

Me too...28 yo male, for almost a year now, ive had just about every morning, usually right when I wake up, 2-4 loose stools every day. Its like its the new routine, just flipped a switch one day and now its like this. I've been through the tests, and they came up with just IBS and some anxiety issues. Doesnt matter what I eat, or if i drink coffee, or what, its always loose and more than once in the mornings.
My brother went to a psychiatrist and he prescribed him fluoxetine and xanax. He said that my brother should take one 20mg tablet of fluoxetine for the morning and 0.5 tablet for xanax for morning and night for 14 days . He said to take the 0.5 mg xanax tablet half in morning and the other half at night
So, my brother took the fluoxetine and xanax for 14 days and then again went to the psychiatrist. My brother has not felt any improvement for his ocd or depression from the tablets.
Concomitant use of tramadol and serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as fluoxetine increases the risk of seizures and serotonin syndrome. It may also reduce the pain relieving properties of the tramadol. If you must take tramadol, do not take it at the same time as fluoxetine. Try to take tramadol and imitrex a few hours apart from the fluoxetine.
I am 38 years old and 4 and half months pregnant with my first baby. Before getting preg. I was taking 20 mg of fluoxetine once a day. When I first found out I was preg. i stopped. I recently experienced panic attacks and my doctor prescribed the same medication. Is it safe for my unborn child? I am very concerned please advise me!

Lately, I have been having bradycardia issues, specifically in the evening time. My pulse is usually between 48 and 52 beats per minute... which is a bit low for me. I am taking the medicine for hypertension... but since heart disease runs in my family and fish oil has some pretty good evidence behind it, I thought I would take it 2. Any comments, suggestions?
i just started on fluoxetine and it depends on when you take it, if your taking it in the morning then switching to the evenings should solve the problem.
I've had depression for some time and was prescribed fluoxetine a few months ago. In the second and third week of taking it I experienced what I can only describe as mild euphoria and a sort of agitation- not being able to sleep, restlessness and the shakes- which was not unpleasant because of the euphoric feeling that accompanied it.

How long before I begin to see any benefits? Also, two more questions - they may seem trivial, but they are bothering me - is it safe to break open the Fluoxetine capsules, as I can not swallow them? Also I am taking 5mg Diazepam - is that safe?
Ive been to the doctors and they put me on Fluoxetine tablets. One a day until they tell me to stop. However I've had two so far but want to stop. I know you have to slowly come off of them but if I've only had two can I just stop? Please help!

Fluoxetine or Prozac belongs to the group of antidepressants called selective
serotonin re-uptake inhibitors. (SSRIS). These drugs tend to cause less sedation and have different side effects to older antidepressants.
Fluoxetine or Prozac elevates mood, increases physical activity and restores
interest in everyday pursuits. Prozac is used to treat depression , to reduce
binge eating and purging activity ( bulimia nervosa) and to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Do not stop taking fluoxetine without talking to your doctor. If you suddenly stop taking fluoxetine, you may experience withdrawal symptoms such as mood changes, irritability, agitation, dizziness, numbness or tingling in the hands or feet, anxiety, confusion, headache, tiredness, and difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually.
A study done in 2009 by the Department of Behavioral Science at Eastern Virginia Medical School concluded that selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, are one type of prescription medication effective for this disorder. Some common SSRIs include fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, paroxetine and sertraline. The study listed other pharmacologic treatments for skin picking, such as inositol, clomipramine, doxepin, inositol, lamotrigine, olanzapine, naltrexone and riluzole.
