Avatar f tn i am taking 80 mg fluoxetine plus 45 - 60 mg buspirone and i was wondering if there is reason for concern about serotonin syndrome with such a cocktail at those dosages. if it's a bad idea to be taking so much of the both of them, it's not necessarily a big deal for me to d/c them as i still lay in bed all day! -- but what's next? thanks...
471949 tn?1236904026 autonomic dysfunction such as tachycardia, hyperthermia, diaphoresis, shivering, blood pressure lability, and mydriasis; neuromuscular abnormalities such as hyperreflexia, myoclonus, tremor, and ataxia; and gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Particular caution is advised when increasing the dosages of these agents.
Avatar f tn rather it may mean that doses need to be very, very small in the beginning... I have also found that sometimes beginning with buspirone (BuSpar) and getting onto a full therapeutic dose of that medication prior to starting the serotonin antidepressant may reduce these initial side effects. As with buspirone, if you are on a benzodiazepine already you should stay on that medicine until these medications reach therapeutic levels and begin to work. 3.
Avatar f tn My nervousness ended immediately, though I had a mild headache from even one-half cup withdrawal of coffee. This morning I took Buspar and did not have any coffee, and Buspar worked much better for me. I still need the coffee, due to other medication, but I don't think that Buspar and coffee at the same time is the way to go.
1063764 tn?1272821064 If you took a lot of both drugs, Melatonin and fluoxetine. Would/could they do any serious damage? I am on fluoxetine and take melatonin regularly.
Avatar f tn I was on Wellbutrin before the tumor/surgery and was feeling great. Afterward they put me on fluoxetine and topamax (I no longer have migraines and weaned myself off both). About a month ago I wanted to try stopping the Wellbutrin, and my gp told me to just stop it (300 xl). I was hesitant but decided to try it. I lasted about a month and noticed I was starting to feel weird so I went back on (been about 4 weeks now). Here's the question!
Avatar f tn Yes I suffer from the same problems as you describe above and have been on and off fluoxetine for several years for major depression and I can reassure you that the side effects as far as increased anxiety at the beginning of treatment are common and I have had to take an antianxiety medication for the first couple of weeks to combat this effect. In 2-3 weeks it should subside and that's usually when I also start to feel the desired effect of fluoxetine.
Avatar f tn This is a new symptom, and disturbing, because Buspar does seem to help anxiety for me; I even felt it was going to be a miracle drug. But I can't have anger coming out of the blue. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
467977 tn?1262714747 Do you recommend taking the Paxil at the same time as Buspar, and then another Buspar (as needed) later in the day? Or just Paxil in the morning, one Buspar in the afternoon, and one later on (I know this is according to each person, I am just curious). AND, will the Buspar actually combat the anxious feelings? Not the panic attack feelings (Paxil works for me on that), I just need to get rid of this leftover anxiety!!!!!!!!!!!
6021583 tn?1413069126 He said this was a mild from and that he would only perscribe more antidepressants to help with the anxiety so he gave my fluoxetine 20mg caps to take with my trazadone but in a month they will take me down off trazadone and keep me on fluoxetine so its just like a transition i did ask if fluoxetine was more easy to get off his reply was yes. I've been given only loperamide 2mg capsules for bowels and domperidone for sickness.
459279 tn?1206997145 I am on buspar and zoloft. I started Buspar first and I actually lost about 10 pounds after starting it. I think it depends on the person. I have heard many people say that Buspar makes them lose weight.
Avatar m tn My shrink prescribed me Buspar about 10 years ago and it worked, is non addictive and helped with my anxiety, but I not longer take it for about 3 or 4 years. I'll ask him , I'm a little concerned with the withdrawal using a long term life like Valium, I know it works, according to Dr. Ashton, but I am worried it will become addicted to it. Thanks for the input to all of you.
Avatar f tn not sure what this means.. melatonin reduces the antidepressant effect of fluoxetine.. and then in the last sentence fluoxetine has lead to a measurable depletion of melatonin in people..
Avatar n tn I have been on Buspar since April and I have actually cut down on smoking and lost about 10 pounds. I have been taking walks and doing yoga. That helps.
Avatar n tn Fluoxetine (Prozac) has the slowest elimination of the SSRIs.
431073 tn?1222177026 I have been taking buspar (5mg 2x a day) for almost 2 weeks now and I seem to be having some side effects. I have been feeling tired (due to trouble sleeping) and having headaches as well. I am also having trouble sleeping. I know that it could take a while for this med to kick in but I am still worried about the side effects. Has anyone ever taken this med and is there any advice you can give me?
Avatar n tn If you ever stop the Buspar, you might try passionflower as well. A good all around nervous system relaxant. Holy basil can help with cortisol levels, and adaptogens can help with the adrenals. Lots of stuff to try out there. Good luck.
608208 tn?1220398134 I know for me when I was on BuSpar my heart rate declined and so did my blood pressure and has stayed on the low end of the spectrum since getting off of it last year. Call your doctor just to be safe and good luck!
Avatar f tn My doctor increased my dose a few months ago (I take 15 mg twice a day) and I feel like sometimes my heart palpitates and night. The palpitations are waking me up some nights. My BP also seems to be spiking on and off the last couple months. I'm wondering if it related to the Buspirone or something else? I also started taking the generic BP medication (Nebivolol) of Bystolic, because my insurance didn't want to cover the name brand last time I filled it.
429700 tn?1308007823 I too am on Propanolol. Alongside this I am also on Buspar. I haven't had any side effects at all such as weight gain and it doesn't make me feel like i am on drugs such as lexapro and xanax did. Have you tried buspar before?
Avatar f tn Does anyone take buspar with doxepin? My doctor prescribed me both and so far i have only taken the buspar. I have read taking both could cause serotonin syndrome and scared to take the doxepin. I take 15mg x 3 daily of buspar and was given 50 mg of doxepin to take at bedtime.
Avatar f tn I'd say, given the lack of successful clinical trials with Buspar, it probably won't help much anyway, though some do find some benefit, but it doesn't seem worth the pain given it's lack of success generally. If it's just one week it's doubtful you'd even need to taper off, and since it usually doesn't work, drugs that don't work are usually easy to stop taking.
Avatar m tn My brother went to a psychiatrist and he prescribed him fluoxetine and xanax. He said that my brother should take one 20mg tablet of fluoxetine for the morning and 0.5 tablet for xanax for morning and night for 14 days . He said to take the 0.5 mg xanax tablet half in morning and the other half at night So, my brother took the fluoxetine and xanax for 14 days and then again went to the psychiatrist. My brother has not felt any improvement for his ocd or depression from the tablets.
Avatar m tn Concomitant use of tramadol and serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as fluoxetine increases the risk of seizures and serotonin syndrome. It may also reduce the pain relieving properties of the tramadol. If you must take tramadol, do not take it at the same time as fluoxetine. Try to take tramadol and imitrex a few hours apart from the fluoxetine.
142722 tn?1281533616 I was just wondering if any one had any experience with Buspar and wanted to know if it worked for them. Buspar is a Class B med which is very safe during pergnancy. I was just wondering if any one had anxiety with one of these meds. Just wondering that's all.
872115 tn?1242182670 So my doc, gave me this Buspar, does any one know about it, I really did not want benzo type meds, and I guess buspar takes a couple of weeks to start working, but then I read, about you should only take buspar for a few months.
Avatar f tn I am 38 years old and 4 and half months pregnant with my first baby. Before getting preg. I was taking 20 mg of fluoxetine once a day. When I first found out I was preg. i stopped. I recently experienced panic attacks and my doctor prescribed the same medication. Is it safe for my unborn child? I am very concerned please advise me!
