Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with oral thrush. I wont get much into the details on how i got it but it was through a sexual encounter. So It has been around 3-4 weeks and I still having symptoms. First I was taking Nystatin then my Doctor prescribed me Fluconazole. While I was taking this medications I felt like it was only preventing it from getting worse and not actually addressing the root cause. Just a couple days ago I stopped taking Fluconazole and my tongue and lips again started to get swollen.
Avatar m tn Been diagonosed with Oral thrush, annoying at the back of my tounge on the 'papllae vallatee' and was perscribed Nystan 4 times a day. I take this at 7am - 12pm - 5pm & 10pm. I started the course 4 days ago and about 25% of the thrush has gone, but the rest is persisting. Any advice?
Avatar f tn I was then prescribed Nystatin oral suspension (3 bottles) and using it helped, but it did not completely clear the thrush. I went to my GP and he then prescribed Fluconazole tablets for me (50mg for 22 days). This has not cleared the thrush either. Up till now, my thrush is still not cleared (since november 2010). I am afraid that it might have become very resistant to medication. Could you please advise me on what to do? Are there any other medications that I can take?
Avatar f tn I’ve been suffering for 3 months now with oral thrush and burning mouth, I’ve tested negative for all Std with multiple tests 17 times in fact and been diagnosed with Chronic Prostatis. Initially was in a 3 month course of different antibiotics and a week after finishing I developed the oral thrush. I’ve tried everything to get rid of it including Fluconazole, nystatin and daktatin but it just comes back.

Avatar m tn For oral thrush you do require the correct medication and you can purchase without or without a prescription from your doctor an oral gel to treat oral thrush called Daktarin. You can purchase this from your pharmacy. Nystatin drops is another treatment for oral thrush, but I believe you can only get this by prescription from your doctor. At home, you can eat natural live yogurts, cut out or cut down on sugary foods and drinks.
Avatar n tn he diagnosed me with oral thrush and prescribed fluconazole 50mg for 7 days, im currently on day 4 and cannot see any improvement. im basically just wondering are these symptoms definitely not related to hiv? is that definitely reliable? and also how long should the fluconazole take to work. any help would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn So a month ago I noticed my younger was completely coated in something white, so I went to my schools health office and they said it was an oral thrush infection. They gave my a swish anti fungal medicine which I have now run out of. There is still an overgrowth of yeast on my tongue though. I've never experienced this before last month. My dentist said because I don't feel any burning sensation and the coating isn't thick like cottage cheese, then it's nothing to worry about.
Avatar n tn Hello, I am a straight male in my 20's. 6 months ago I had a one night stand with a high risk partner. I was very drunk, but used a condom and don't think it split/came off. I also performed oral sex on her. Since that night i've had so many problems. This is the only sexual encounter I have had from then until now. My problems: About 3 - 4 weeks after this night I found that I had a fungal rash of the groin (front and back).
Avatar m tn 1. No 2. No, once the virus is in your system, it gets to work. 3. Do you really have oral thrush? Do you have a specific risk you would like to talk about?
Avatar m tn Very high fibre, mostly vegetarian. I don't eat sweet food like desserts, muffins, chocolate, ice-cream (except for special occasions) but I do drink Vitamin Water which is 5% sugar. Right now I feel sore and dead down there. Before this thrush came along, I wanted to have sex with my boyfriend all the time which enhanced our relationship. Now, I never want to and we haven't had sex for two weeks.

Avatar f tn Hi. I’ve had oral thrush for 3 weeks now, been given Nystatin then Fluconazole, 50mg and finally Daktarin, I’ve still got white at the back of my tongue and I’ve also got the feeling of something stuck in my throat, it’s not painful but it is uncomfortable. Why won’t this white tongue go away.
Avatar n tn He may instead prescribe a medication like Fluconazole which comes as a capsule. You can purchase Fluconazole 100mg (1 single dose) without a prescription from the pharmacist, but the doctor can prescribe a stronger and longer term use if this is required. Get it seen to so that you can get the correct diagnose and the correct treatment as soon as possible. Avoid kissing and oral sex to avoid passing it on.
Avatar f tn I am not taking any oral steroids at this time. I use Duo Neb Inhalation 2 times per day and oxygen on 2 L continously. The Pulmonary Doctor keeps having me try to use Advair but I get thrush in my mouth anytime I'm on Advair or oral steroids. So I try to avoid them if at all possible. I am currently using Spiriva HandiHaler which I believe is not suppose to have any steroids but I keep getting Thrush in my mouth !
Avatar f tn 3rd dr after looking at my throat said I did not have oral thrush I have tried to scrape these patches off but they are adhered firmly to my mouth. The week before I had oral sex I had been to the dentist and was feeling bad so took amoxicillin then got to filling better and quit taking it. Also I started using a mouth wash which I have never used before. Now I am on sudafed, Zyrtec nasal spray and since I told my dr I had tested positive for yeast I'm on fluconazole for 14 days.
Avatar n tn You are right (in your comment below) that "thrush" is often used in the UK to mean yeast infection in general, whereas on this side of the Atlantic we tend to use thrush to mean oral infection only. It wasn't always that way; the change in the US seems to have evolved in connection with awareness of oral yeast as a possible indicator of AIDS. (There is nothing in your situation that raises HIV/AIDS concerns.
Avatar m tn When the results showed the presence of thrush I read obsessively about thrush and within two days I’d what I thought was oral thrush. When I read that thrush can affect the gut I got painful symptoms in my stomach. Interestingly my doctor said that a dry cough was a common anxiety symptom especially for those like me that also reported stomach cramps and pains. Anxiety increases stomach acid; this acid refluxes up into the back of the throat.
Avatar n tn Does a one time 150 mg dose of fluconazole for vaginal thrush affect the effectiveness of hormonal birth control (the pill)?
Avatar f tn That was when I developed my first thrush infection. Since that time, I have never failed to get thrush and vaginal yeast in response to these drugs. I also have had allergies to various molds and fungi since I was 20 years, which necessitated getting immunotherapy through regular injections on and off for years.
1434838 tn?1285404132 Hello, There are some reasons for recurrent thrush infection. These include when symptoms may not be due to thrush, when thrush is caused by other strains of Candida spp. such as Candida glabrata( These may not be so easily treated with the usual anti-thrush medicines), you are taking antibiotics, or if you have undiagnosed or poorly controlled diabetes. You should get a fungal culture of vaginal discharge done and all these causes ruled out.
Avatar m tn oh and the doctor gave me medicine for thrush anyway (two 100 mg fluconazole pills one to take that day and one for 2 days later) and it didnt go away so it must not be thrush
Avatar m tn Fluconazole (Diflucan) is an antifungal medication used to treat serious fungal or yeast infections such as vaginal candidiasis, thrush and/or oral thrush, peritonitis which is an inflammation of the lining of the stomach, urinary tract infections and a few other fungal/yeast based issues. This medication works by killing the fungus or yeast or preventing it's growth.
Avatar m tn So I went to my GP who took a swab test and was confirmed with oral thrush. The thrush is not painful, the white layer is not thick, and after eating or washing my mouth properly the tongue looks better. However my tongue is very white specially in the mornings. I also have a LOT of saliva. I am swallowing every minute because there's just too much. I was reading this can be caused due the bumps (ulcers?) on my tongue. I had fluconazole 50mg during 7 days and did nothing.
Avatar f tn t know why I am still getting these pains, and can they be from a UTI and BV? Also I have oral thrush from the antibiotics and have had it for about 1 week. I am treating with coconut oil, corsodyl mouthwash and also natural yoghurt. However it does not seem to be clearing.. The pain is better but the White/yellow covering has not dissappeared from my tongue!! Please help!!
