Hello, Trauma to the nail can cause blackening of the nail because of injury to the nail bed and spillage of blood in nailbed.It does not sound like a fungal infection.This bleeding can resolve on its own and if the symptoms of severe pain persists then drilling of the nail to release the blood may have to be done. About 15 years ago I took sporanox for toe nail fungus, which cleared but then recurred. I then took Lamisil, which cleared the fungus for good. At the time I had undiagnosed Hep C. The manufacturers of both drugs warn that you should perform regular liver function and enzyme tests while taking those drugs. My PCP did not do any testing. He is no longer my PCP. Its nice to have fungus free toenails, but if I had to choose I would keep my liver instead.

How many times have you taken it, and has it helped at all. Best to ask for a definitive test for fungus if not improving, but please follow-up with your doctor to discuss your concerns as there may still be some other tests to ensure it is fungus.

Hi doctor,I have jock itch type fungus for last one year, tried fluconazole but it again came back...then tried itraconazole 200 mg a day with topical clotrimazole, it completely dissappered, but after 15 days it came back. Did this course thrice but it comes back every time. Tried terbinafine also but dint work much.

i already did and he says the test for fungus is negative and the fluconazole pills for fungus that he gave me didnt do anything which prob means theres no fungus to kill. could it be bacterial???

s lasted around 4 months in genital area, tested for STDs all negative. Doctor unsure as no obvious rash, prescribed 4 weeks of fluconazole to see if it is a fungal infection, 50mg every morning for 4 weeks. Now the itching is still present 3 weeks in, would you expect the itching to have subsided by now? I'm unsure how this drug works. Also I seemed to develop a small red rash whilst on these tablets that comes and goes?

I have a nail fungus that I've dealt with for nearly two years. I have had my doctor prescribe cream, I also took Lamisil (spelling?) I went to the dermatologist with my son yesterday, and he told me to file the side of my nail with the fungus all the way down, he said in order to get rid of the fungus that's in my nail, I have to get rid of that part of my nail. I might be in the wrong forum as well but I was prescribed lamisil after a positive test for Onychomycosis on my toenails. I was told to take one tablet a day for 3 months. My doctor did check my liver before starting and he called to say everything was normal and to go forth with the treatment. I've heard so many bad things from hair loss, death, loss of taste and I'm so scared.

I went to the doctor and was told I had nail fungus and needed Lamisil. One tablet, once a day for 3 months. They took and ran tests of my blood to test my liver and they said all tests came back normal. They went ahead and said to begin taking the medication. I'm 21 and relatively healthy. It appears as though both of my big toes have a new nail growing in underneath the old nail. The old Nail is raised up quite a bit compared to the new growth, which is about 1/4". I also can see a line on both nails that appears to be where the new nail is at, and that is about 75% to the end of my toe. The new nail looks totally fine. I'm 25 years old. None of my other toenails are affected. No pain or other symptoms of any kind.

Did you have a toe nail bed infection in addition to the toe nail fungus? Did your toe nail fall off or did it just penetrate the nail itself? I am taking the oral Lamisil (luckily my insurance pays for it) and so far so good (check my liver enzymes in a month). I am also taking sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim for the anti bacterial. Yeah I know vinegar is a great cleaner and has many uses. We use it to clean our bathroom floors and even on pergo it doesn't seem to cause any damage.

I'm pretty confident this is caused by fungus/mould. Just wondering if anyone has tried any strong antifungals, itraconazole for instance?

There is a liquid they can give you to take internally for that. And soaking feet in water with tea will kill nail fungus and athlets foot. The tannic acid kills it. Just thought I would share.

I did take a pill of Fluconazole and all the creams listed above. What is next? Can the fungus or yeast be in my blood stream? Can a man passed a yeast infection to a healthy woman? Thank you always for your answers.

I was okay trying to control(possibly) the fungus on my toes and my thumb and index fingernails. Now it needs like what my wife is having(black dot on her thumb) now resembles what I had once upon a time. I don't want her to fight with fungus. You would have to take a prescription oral drug (Lamisil) for three months then it kills the nail. I just went through this with my toe nail. The nail is usually yellowish.
