What medicines have you or your children been on for this? My 3 year old son was just diagnosed with EE this past August, and he's been using Flovent 1 puff twice a day since then. The last month or two I've noticed that he has been extremely aggressive, agitated, and just plain mean and disrespectful. I am 100% sure it is due to the Flovent. Is there an alternative I should be asking for? Will all of the EE medicines give his just such a reaction since they are all going to be steroids?
I notice that the ingredient that in Flonase is the same (fluticasone propionate) as is found in Flovent..
It occurs to me that flonase might even work better because more of the stream of fluticasone propionate would hit the back of my throat and be swallowed, getting more to my esophagus and less to my mouth.
The key point though is I can get flonase inexpensively, whereas the flovent is more than I can easily afford.

I think you should take him to his allergist. He/she should know quite a bit about what happens when someone stops taking a medication they have prescribed. I am wondering if you didn't have him taper off, or if the sterroid in Flovent was keeping the dermititis under control. In that case, you wouldn't have noticed it until the medication was getting out of his system. Just a thought from a non-professional.
Question, do the Flovent and Advair have the fluticasone propionate ingredient in common? Tonight will be my 1st use of the Flovent.
Concerned that I may have a mitral valve problem plus the emphysema. My symptoms of attack are severe shortness of breath, high heart rate, and the immediate need to urinate. Does anyone have anything similar to this? I have not been advised supplemental oxygen as of yet.
I use Duoneb (similar to combivent) in a nebulizer and find it very helpful. I discontinued the use of Advair (which is basically a combination of Serevent and Flovent) because it almost killed me (choking). It also caused adrenal fatigue, was harming my eyes, and was subverting my immune system.
In place of Advair I use a variety of natural anti-inflammatories and mucolytics. My health is much improved and I found that the severe bronchitis I had was in fact CAUSED by the Advair.
On the basis of those three answers, I would not be as worried as you probably are and continue to use the Flovent as you are doing and stay in close contact with the Pediatric Pulmonologist. It is likely, that your son will continue to have wheezing episodes with infections and possibly with exposure to certain allergens. If your son is allergic, you should know that cats are a major factor for allergic/asthmatic children.

Flovent is not a rescue inhaler. Who told you that? Only Albuterol nebs or inhalers are rescue inhalers,
Flovent is aka fluticasone, you can grow aspergillus with flovent and advair. Did you read the patient information that it can also cause resp infections as well as cataracts, over time?
Have you changed your toothbrush, had dental cleanings or told your MD/ Have you been offered Mycelex lozenges or Diflucan?

This is my 4th abnormal saliva test. I take tons of herbs,not doing much for me. My thyroid group says I am in 4th stage of AF but want another opinion. 4th stage is near death.
I can't sleep at night anymore;my thyroid is trashed;I have blood sugar issues and gained a ton of weight;I feel like I am going to vomit sometimes. I think I really am going to die sooner than later. And the doctors are not helping me one bit,especially the endos,who think "it's all in my head.
Because of serious side effects I stopped using steroid inhalers and switched to natural anti-inflammatories and mucolytics instead. The only medication I use now is albuterol which I use in a nebulizer. I also have a small portable nebulizer for when I am not at home. This is better for me than a measured dose albuterol inhaler because I only use what I need at any given time. My health is better with natural products than it was with a steroid inhaler.
I have two children. My daughter is 2 and my son will be 1 in April. They both have horrible breathing problems. My daughter's breathing started to get nasty around 5 months of age and has been good and bad since. My son's breathing just started recently. They are both on pulmacort and albuterol and my son was just put on predisolone. Nothing is working!! Does anyone have any advice? We are a NON smoking home and would NEVER let anyone near our children with ciggarettes.
ve also developed a tendency to have bronchospasms, my pulmo dropped the dose of Flovent in response to that and it helped. Can you have mild Churg Strauss? He didn't do any bloodwork.
My pulmo is not very inclined to provide a lot of information anyhow and I don't think he believes there is any connection between the meds and pain beyond 'Flovent can cause muscle pain".
-Use air filters to help clean air in your home.
-Cover mattresses and pillows with dust covers and use hypoallergenic bed clothing to reduce exposure to dust mites.
-Include foods with omega-3 fatty acids in the diet—such as fish or fish oil.
-Supplement with vitamin C, which helps reduce allergic reactions and wheezing symptoms.
-Get regular chiropractic care.

When I started having symptoms in April, I stopped using Advair and now I only use Flovent. When I saw my pulmonologist I told him that I was only taking flovent (he had given me a prescription for both to use when my asthma got really bad.) He agreed with my decision.
Regarding my symptoms, I am waiting to see my cardiologist on Thursday so he can tell me how my 30 day event monitor went.
I am now 21 and it seems like I get shortness of breath a lot lately . I use flovent everyday twice a day and I use my ventilin as needed. but you can only use the venilin 4 to 6 hours after each use. sometimes my ventilin doesn't even help. i do have anxiety and that gives me shortness of breath a lot too. i have been using vicks up to 3 times a day everyday for a little over a month now. is it safe to use it everyday?
I am 36 and diagnosed with asthma in 1999. Since then, I have used Flovent 4 times daily and my weight increased rapidly; I have gone up 8 sizes and I exercise daily. Two or three years ago, I started experiencing edema in my feet and I soon developed an underactive thyroid. I experienced bipolar-like mood swings and the edema increased. I went to three different endos who were not very helpful.
My 13 year old daughter has been recently diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis. The treatments of which has been the use of Flovent and an elemental diet (Elecare) have not been working. Her symptoms are immediate regurgetation or vomiting of EVERYTHING SHE EATS OR DRINKS. Water, vitamins, anything that goes in comes right back out. She has lost amlost 30 lbs but is somehow remaining steady for about a month now, thank God.
