Flovent for chronic bronchitis

Common Questions and Answers about Flovent for chronic bronchitis

flovent

Avatar n tn Albuterol is a bronchodilator used to treat many of the same issues as Flovent, but it can also be used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Albuterol comes in a syrup, tablet, or as a suspension in an inhaler. Albuterol works by causing the passages to the lung to relax and open, which makes breathing easier.
Avatar n tn Serevent and meds like it are long acting beta2 agonists (long acting broncho dilaters). They are standard treatment for COPD and perfectly safe for that disease. The problem comes in when they are used long term for asthma, and them mainly when no inhaled steroid is used. The only people who have had a problem with these meds are asthmatics. It is not clear exactly what the problem is, but some believe that it is inappropriate use of the medication - ie using it as a rescue inhaler.
Avatar n tn I do not have chronic bronchitis but I've had bronchitis and only took prednisone for a small amount of time. The best treatment for me turned out to be switching from Flovent 110, my normal dosage, to 220 whenever I felt a cold coming on.
Avatar f tn My 2 year old has been on flovent (twice daily) for about 8 months to control a chronic cough/wheezing. His allergist gave us the go-ahead to stop the flovent for the Spring/Summer. Within days of stopping the flovent he developed a rash (pimple like at first, then turning red and angry looking) all around his mouth with the odd pustule around his eyes.
Avatar f tn My 5 yr old son has a chronic wet cough. It started in Sept. In November the pediatrian said he had a sinus infection. The next day he was throwing up and with fever. His office kept telling me to give it 72 hours. I ended going to urgent care. They did an xray and said he had pnemonia. That was 4 months ago. All the other symptoms have gone away but this cough. Doesn't cough at night anymore. It's not like he coughs all the time but when he does it's always wet sounding. No phlem.
Avatar f tn Albuterol created a vocal cord problem. Now been put on Flovent Diskus 100mgc and continue the Albuterol. Question, do the Flovent and Advair have the fluticasone propionate ingredient in common? Tonight will be my 1st use of the Flovent. Concerned that I may have a mitral valve problem plus the emphysema. My symptoms of attack are severe shortness of breath, high heart rate, and the immediate need to urinate. Does anyone have anything similar to this?
Avatar n tn Hi there, I have been diagnosed with mild Chronic Bronchitis. Now I have seen that it says that you have a persistent cough. I do not cough at all. I just feel like I have to clear my chest or throat quite a bit. My Fev1 was 82% pre and 88% post. My FEV1/FVC was 66.7%. I have had another Respo say it is asthma. All I know is that sometimes I feel like I have something stuck in my throat lower down or some pressure in my chest. I am 36 and my blood pressure is excellent.
Avatar m tn You probably have chronic bronchitis due to marijuana smoking and, with the cough reflex no longer suppressed, you cough much more than in the past. The mucus is simply a sign of chronic inflammation of the airways.

Avatar n tn He has been on antibiotics (zithromax equiv), oral steroids (dexamethasone), nebulizers (pulmicort and albuterol), seen an ENT for a laryngoscope, pediatric nerologists. Neurologist says behavioural related to too many sports, but he loves these and is under no pressure as to which sport or when - he chooses. He is now off all drugs - these brought on associated body spasms that have stopped. He repeatedly comes out of tests looking just fine - no bronchitis, asthma, epiglotitis.
Avatar f tn My doctor told me I had chronic bronchitis and I now take medication (Advair) for it but I want to know if chronic bronchitis is contagious. I know that acute bronchitis is contagious but I didn't think chronic bronchitis was. I'm asking because my boyfriend says that everyday after he sees me his throat feels sore and he starts coughing a lot with a lot of mucus. I smoke and he doesn't.
Avatar m tn In my opinion you are having problems with frequent ACUTE bronchitis and this is related to your smoking. If you don't quit the smoking, this can evolve into chronic bronchitis.
Avatar n tn Two years ago she needed to use Duoneb via nebulizer. She was not short of breath at any time but had a few bouts with chronic bronchitis. Since moving to Florida a year ago, her husband died in Dec of 2007 and she is now short of breath. Her pulmonologist in FL took her off all of lung medications and within 3 days she was wheezing like a maniac. Pulmonologist thinks that she has never had COPD and is checking into pulmonary fibrosis.

Avatar f tn Although people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) usually have elements of both chronic bronchitis and emphysema, one can have chronic bronchitis, without emphysema or, more commonly, chronic bronchitis with a wide range of emphysema severity from minimal to quite severe. Chronic bronchitis is characterized by airway obstruction to air flow but there is not a good correlation between the degree of obstruction and the amount of emphysema.
Avatar f tn Chronic bronchitis is caused most often by exposure to airborne pollutants such as cigarette smoke, excessive dust in the air, or chemicals. Bronchitis caused by allergies can also be classified as chronic bronchitis. Chronic bronchitis also can have an asthmatic component. Treatment for chronic bronchitis includes bronchodilators, anti inflammatory drugs, and chest physical therapy for loosening mucus in the lungs.
Avatar m tn i've went to the doctor a year ago and was diagnosed with acute bronchitis and took antibiotics to get rid of it. However, it never completely left. I always find by self breathless, tired, drained and I hardly have any energy. I also am constantly spitting in light red blood with yellow mucus mixed in it. So do you think I may have copd?
Avatar f tn They said start with Xopenex (every 4-6 hrs) and give him Flovent once in the morning and once at night. Do this for about 1-2 days. But doesn't it take weeks for Flovent to kick in? Why would they have me do it like this. How could it help him for only 1-2 days?
