Avatar f tn Hi, welcome to the forum, the loss of taste and smell is commonly encountered with allergic rhinitis, nonallergic rhinitis, rhinosinusitis, and nasal polyposis with certain drugs or zinc deficiency. It requires relief of the obstruction and treatment of the accompanying infection, if present. You need to undergo the test for Flavor discrimination test and Somatosensory testing to know the extent of involvement.
Avatar n tn Day 1 - Loss of taste. Left side of tongue would taste food and drinks as if waxy and tasteless Day 2 - Eye would continue to twitch on and off through the day. Tongue still had loss of taste Day 3 - Taste still absent and more noticeable and even numb. Trouble with laughter, half of face (left) would not move right. Day 4 - Headache around temples and down behind left ear. A pressured feeling on same side of head. Cheek and mouth on left side wont move the same as the right.
233622 tn?1279334905 smell, sight, taste, hearing, and such. All of them can be affected by MS. Also nerves can be affect in two different kinds of ways. Their error messages can be positive or negative. A positive paresthesia means that the erroroneous nerve signal will be something felt, or sensed, by the person. In the case of pain, it will be a sensation of pain from an area that is not damaged and has no reason to send a pain signal. Hot may send a signal of a warm patch.
Avatar n tn A loss of taste side effect from Tekturna is quite common, about a third of users. Maybe your Doctor could try a different medication to see if there are any changes. You need to enjoy your food, and there are plenty of ways/medications to help control blood pressure. You shouldn't need to make such a big sacrifice as not enjoying your meals.
Avatar m tn As for the loss of taste..we were actually just discussing this on another thread, but more when it happens post op. I remember getting metallic taste b4 surgery and definitely after...which would affect my taste. I am sure as things like your gag reflex and swallowing become to be affected that it would also affect the nerve to your tongue as well. I know for me that sometimes coffee will taste great and other times it tastes awful...and I have noticed it with other foods as well.
Avatar m tn ve had this really weird fizzing sensation off and on at the back of my throat all day. It feels like a handful of poprocks are at the top of my throat/back of my mouth. It's a really weird suggestion. I have some acid reflux problems, but I've got a prescription acid reducer that I take for that daily so I don't think that's the problem. Could the Flonase be the cause?
Avatar f tn The various tests carried out to detect the cause of loss o smell is CT scan of nasal sinuses, MRI of brain, allergy testing, and blood glucose levels. This is followed by quantitative smell test which helps identifies the degree of loss. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar f tn Ice skating concussion to the back of the head, loss of smell, taste, and also ringing in ears. This is all terrible, but could be worse. Many say I am lucky to be alive and functioning. I just keep moving forward as best I can with my busy family. I still enjoy texture and temperatures of food. I'm eating totally healthy food that I ordinarily wouldn't care for.
Avatar f tn As AnxiousNoMore says, other viruses can have this effect as well, not just Covid-19. From another website: "Up to 40 percent of people with other viral infections, such as influenza or the common cold, experience a temporary loss of smell that usually reverses itself in a couple weeks. The condition is also common among people with allergies.
Avatar n tn what causes people to smell exhaust fume all day, i also have the same problem. lost of appetite cause nothing taste good. eyes feels terrible.throat feels dry.please help.
Avatar f tn Fever and loss of smell and taste are suspicious for COVID; consider getting tested.
Avatar n tn Yes I had a CT last year but not because of swelling. Dr just wanted one. It was fine. Yes he thinks Flonase might help with allergies. He will follow up in a month. If it doesn’t help not sure what’s next.
Avatar n tn I fractured my skull Jan 2012 with bleeding, loss of consciousness all after a seizure. Two week later I lost my sense of taste and smell and later developed a bad taste/smell. Eating is NOT pleasant. I no longer enjoy pleasant scents. I only apply perfume I know smells good to me. I've lost 30 pounds simply because I can hardly stand the taste of food. It could be worse, I could have lost my eye sight or hearing. I try to look at it that way.
Avatar f tn He takes the adult dosage of Zyrtec daily and uses Flonase to keep some of the allergies under control. Because of all of these allergies, I assumed the tongue issue would also be allergy related (the allergy specialist disagrees though). We have also tried Benadryl to no avail. He hasn't had a decent night's sleep in weeks. There are days that he refuses to eat because of the itch and subsequent pain from the sores. He's missed several days of school because of this.
867954 tn?1356900863 When it happens in the right, it usually goes on for 24 hours at a time, obviously annoying enough to cause me some loss of sleep, aggravation, etc. Doctor says fluid behind ear after checking me out and looking into my ears, so I'm on flonase and Allegra-D. Today I'm sitting here, still on the stuff, and it's happening again in the right ear. Last few times I noticed it, it was when I had alcohol I thought, but doctor said probably coincidence.
Avatar m tn m happy to report that her taste came completely back within about a month of stopping use of the inhaler. The one interesting change was that she didn't mind spicy food at all once taste came back but before that she spent her whole life unable to tolerate spiciness. Good luck and I hope this helps.
1028079 tn?1267065621 some of my first documented neuro symptoms were loss of taste, facial numbness and balance issues, sensation feeling like i'm swallowling my tongue. over the years when i have the loss of taste and facial numbness i know i'm going to have a few week of it and then it goes away. no doubt something neuro with me i take cymbalta for pain/irritability. i haven't noticed a correlation with it or the above.
Avatar m tn I was paying $135 or so for Nasonex, which I thought was ridiculously expensive at the time. When Flonase became an OTC product, I thought Nasonex would become cheaper. That's what competition is supposed to do. But noooooo... I went to CVS today and the price was $218 for Nasonex. That is a total ripoff... Why did the price go up? So what's the difference between Merck, the manufacturer, and a robber with a gun on the street? Answer: The gun. Merck robs you without using a gun.
Avatar m tn allergies...many children in the us have coughs...this year check out environmental allergies ..
