Avatar m tn Does anyone know of a medication that can shrink nasal polyps without the use of corticosteroids?? I currently take flonase, but need to discontinue usage due to the fact that I'm trying to fight off an infection. Thanks for any info that can be provided !!
Avatar n tn The 2 most common causes in adolescents and adults are deviation of the nasal septum and nasal polyps, the latter often associated with chronic allergic inflammation of the nose. A deviated nasal septum can be corrected with surgery. Nasal polyps were, in the past, often treated surgically but at this time treatment with an inhaled nasal steroid, such as FlonaseĀ® (fluticasone), can effectively shrink the nasal polyps. You should make arrangements to be seen by an ENT specialist.
Avatar m tn I have had asthma my whole life and when I got it (maybe a few times a month max) i'd use my inhaler and I would get that instant relief us asthmatics feel. A few years ago I had an odd experience with my asthma, my chest was tight and I was very short of breath. My inhaler didn't do anything and nebulizer treatments didn't seem to help either. After an hour I felt better but from that day on my breathing/asthma has never been the same.
Avatar m tn Did the doc suggest trying occasional antihistamines. He can also give you a prescription for cortisone nose spray like flonase. You could get some allergy tests, could be allergic to something, like pet hair. Keep yourself from breathing in cold air also, could make it worse. Try vicks rub on your throat also and get those tests and talk more to the doc for more referrals for allergist and prescriptions if it doesn't get better soon. If you have pets, might be pet dander.
464237 tn?1315670793 The pain went away within two hours yesterday after shots buit woke up this morning and pain is back as well as the post nasal drip. The doctor also prescribed me Flonase nasal spray for the infection but I read the info on it and it says do not take if you have an infection because it is a steroid and it lowers the immune systom. So I'm terrified to use it because I don't want the infection to get even worse. How is it ok to use flonase for bacterial infection?
Avatar n tn My Dr ordered a CT scan a year ago and said i had a deviated septum and some nasal polyps. I generally take Flonase. About a week ago the allergies and sinuses really got a hold of me and i had horrible sinus pressure, felt really spacey, had ear fullness and pain, felt a little off but no ear infection. I got put on a antibiotic. I then just started the Flonase back up. One day i felt short of breath off and on. I also took a Zyrtec.
Avatar m tn I used flonase for a week and got better with my cough and then I stopped. Afterwards my cough came back and I saw a doctor and he told me do not use flonase which makes me cough. I am confused?
497572 tn?1209812815 I've had sinus surgery 4 times for removal of nasal polyps. Over the years, I have been treated with kenalog for sinus infections. Will kenalog treatments keep my polyps in check? Surgery as a bandaid fix is getting expensive and it doesn't fix the problem This discussion is related to Kenalog frequency.
Avatar n tn There are a lot of steroid nasal sprays that you might react better too. Nose bleeds are a common side effect so a different brand may help better. Others are ayamys, nasacort, or nasonex, plus many others. Nasal rinsing using a neti pot or neil med sinus rinse may also help flush out anything that is in your sinuses and there is a much lower risk of bleeding since there is no medication, it's just pure saline.
Avatar f tn t been feeling well. You can always call and ask your doctor these questions for guidance. Flonase is known to reduce nasal inflammation over time. The best thing is to blow your nose prior to using it and then wait as long as you possibly can before blowing your nose again. The longer you wait, the better chance the Flonase has of being absorbed into your nasal cavity. The most common recommendation is 15 to 30 minutes to wait to blow your nose after using. https://www.webmd.
3240655 tn?1346723677 I've had surgery to straighten a deviated septum(2011). I had the surgery because I complained about the lingering odor. Months later the sweet rotten smell returned. A recent CT scan revealed two normal sized cysts in my upper left sinuses. But I only was recommended Flonase. The ENT persuaded me from surgery to remove the cyst, because he didn't think it would help, in his experience. He also believed, my problems may be because of allergies.
Avatar m tn Cajim, One more follow up, if that's allright. I recently stopped taking two forms of medication as I'm concerned that they may hamper my immune system's ability to fight this infection. I take "Advair" for asthma and "Flonase" to shrink nasal polyps (spelling). I believe both contain steroids that are localized for the region that they are supposed to treat.
Avatar f tn I to feel like there is a lump in my throat and that I have mucus all the time down by the esophagus. My doctors keep giving me something for sinus, even though I tell them that it feels like a lump in my throat. If I lay flat, there is a wheezing sound, I have had x rays of my chest and they are fine. I feel like I have to clear my throat all the time. What can I do. He put me on a nasal spray fluticasone.
479419 tn?1208127685 It is important to know if you are using flonase on a regular basis. Flonase is a nasal steroid and should not be used regularly as it is a predisposing factor for sinusitis. If allergies are the likely cause it is important to get an allergy test done to find out the potential allergens and then avoiding them. The link below will provide more information on how to prevent sinus infections. http://www.sinuswars.com/preventions.asp Hope this helps!
Avatar n tn There are no studies supporting natural ways of curing nasal polyps, but there are non-surgical methods to treat nasal polyps. They are oral or topical steroids, intrepidly steroid injections, leukotreine inhibitors etc. Consult your ENT specialist for further assistance. Best.
Avatar f tn Hi, Omnaris (ciclesonide) is a steroid used in treating the inflammation, congestion, sneezing, itching, and runny or stuffy nose that occur due to sinus infections or nasal polyps. Nasal polyps are treated by inhalational or oral steroids or with surgery( open or endoscopic). Although inhalational steroids cause fewer side effects than oral steroids, long-term use can lead to nasal bleeding or perforation of the septum and an increased risk of glaucoma.
Avatar f tn Sinus infections can be either bacterial or viral. If the infection is viral, abx won't cure the infection. You might want to consider asking for Flonase or a similar corticosteroid. This can reduce the swelling in your sinuses, helping them to drain more freely and may help to resolve the infection. If the viral sinus infection does not resolve itself, a bacterial infection may set in and abx may be needed. If you don't see improvement, I second Dame as far as seeing an ENT.
Avatar f tn I had to take some antibiotics for infection but MAINLY there was two solutions to get rid of the polyps. Surgery, or nasal steroids. So we started with the nasal steroids (Flonase Fluticasone) which was prescription only back then. Luckily, it's over the counter now as people use it for allergies as well. It took a while but eventually the polyps shrunk and I am doing WAY better now. I still get issues now and then if I have a cold, so I know the polyps aren't 100% gone...
Avatar f tn This is a natural method to prevent the nasal polyps.Do the pranayam for 30 minutes twice daily to get rid of the polyps gradually. Once the polyps have disappeared, do the anulom vilom for 20 minutes daily.Your feedback will help hundreds in your situation. Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute.
Avatar f tn I have chronic sinusitis and come down with a sinus infection now about every couple of weeks. I have had two sinus surgeries in the past. I just found out that I have nasal polyps. Does anyone know what causes them? And am I looking at more surgery?
4856806 tn?1360095565 My 11 year old son has had nasal polyps on & off for last 3 years. He does not have any other respitory problems. They seem to be worse when he stays at peoples houses who smoke, what i would like to know is will that make his polyps worse or is it just a coincidence?
Avatar f tn I'm also taking Fluticasone Propionate and have the very same issue. I think it's because the nasal spray dries out the nasal cavity. At first, I started having bloody noses, but then that stopped and this current symptom started. My doctor had said it may make the nose very dry and to try saline solution once daily after the Flonase. I have yet to do that, but it's supposed to help. Hope that helps.
Avatar n tn I have had polyps and adenoids and nasal cavity surgery ,two years back, but since last week i am suffering with severe Sinus, first two days had blood in mucos from both nose and mouth, having administered with Ciproflaxcin 500mg and Alaspan,Aeo vit D3 &Otrivin nasal spray, the bleeding is stopped ,but the pain and irritation in ear & nose ,and dizziness and nausea persists.....What would be the best remedy ?????
Avatar m tn Nasal polyps can usually be managed by the use of an inhaled nasal steroid. However, if the polyps are large and causing significant obstruction to nasal airflow, that would prevent contact of the steroid with the surface of the polyps, inhalation therapy alone may not suffice. In such circumstances, surgical removal may be necessary, followed by nasal steroid inhalation to prevent recurrence.
Avatar m tn I also take Singulair which keeps down the swelling in my bronchial tubes and lungs. The nasal sprays never worked for me nor the emergency inhalers. Budesonide keeps the polyps down and this med. has been a life saver! Also the allergy serum has been a life saver! With out these three meds my sinus's swell up so much that I can't talk and I get a severe head ache. I was suddenly allergic to dust mites, mold, yeast, dogs and pollen- two years after my polyps were removed.
Avatar n tn You can try over-the-counter medications like Claritin or Zyrtec. Steroid nasal sprays like Flonase are also helpful, but they require a prescription by a physician. If medical management fails, immunotherapy (allergy shots) might be required.
