Common Questions and Answers about Flomax side effects in women

flomax

Avatar m tn I have taken Flomax for a week, and am very weary of the side effects. It effects my vision - I can feel it in my eyes. It dulls my brain, I can feel it in my head. It caused the ringing in my ears to get worse. I've had minor chest pain for a few days. All of these are on the list of side effects.
1580703 tn?1651904887 Hello, Every drug has its own side effects and Flomax (tamsulosin) is no exception. However it has been reported that treatment with FLOMAX capsules for up to 12 months had no significant effect on prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and does not effect prostate. It effect the vision and may cause blurred vision but that is found in only 0.2- 2% of the patients.
Avatar m tn It would be unusual though to have this production reduced down to zero unless the man was ejaculating very often. In general terms Flomax is a useful medication with very few side-effects..
Avatar n tn Are you taking Flomax for prostate issues? Flomax works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder and prostate, which leads to improved flow of urine and fewer symptoms of BPH. It indeed can have side effects like you describe. https://www.healthline.com/health/enlarged-prostate/flomax-side-effects#side-effects It's a relatively low percentage of patients, less than 4% that have these types of side effects but none the less, that could be going on for you.
Avatar m tn Hi, Thanks for writing in. Prostatitis is usually not a side effect of use of flomax, indeed it can happen due to BPH, for which flomax is used as treatment. It would be better to get prostrate examination done by a urologist and take opinion for surgery for resolving these symptoms. Choice of antibiotics depends upon the kind of organism affecting the prostrate. Best.
Avatar m tn Most likely neither one is possible for me. If the drugs help with urination, I would remain on them and gladly take the side effects of sexual dysfunction. Currently I will have to decide whether I will remain with the suprapubic catheter or will have a surgery to alter the flow of urine. This would mean closing the urethra to the penis and having a dry stoma created on the abdominal wall that I can self cath again.
Avatar n tn He saw an urologist several weeks ago, did various tests to exclude prostate cancer, and he was started on Flomax (.4mg in the evenings). The doctor said that he should It has now been 5 weeks.
Avatar m tn I was a Flomax user and when I went to Iceland I tried a new product called Sagapro I now use sagapro and have given up on the Flomax which did not work well on me. Go to the web site www.sagamedicausa.com i was amazed at how it helped my swollen prostate, and it was all natural made from angelica. My friends in Iceland tell me sagapro is now outselling Flomax and you dont need a doctors note.
Avatar f tn These were perscribed in place of Flomax and Celebrex in the hopes of reducing the inflammation and opening the neck of the bladder to release the urine now being held in my bladder. Should I take these meds even though the Flomax (tamsulosin) is not approved for women? Also considering my past medical history Im scared to take either meds, should I?
Avatar m tn Dizziness, unusual weakness, drowsiness, trouble sleeping, or runny nose, fainting, vision changes, sexual problems (difficulty ejaculating, decreased interest in sex), fast heartbeat etc are the usual side effects of flomax. But they can rarely develop after such a prolonged use. Consult a urologist for further help. Best.
Avatar f tn Needless to say, I found this to be disconcerting, and discovered (through onling research) that a decrease in semen production was a common side effect of Flomax. But, I kept on using this combination hoping things would improve with the semen. Needless to say, after approximately 3 weeks, I had the same experience, but this time followed by pain in my lower abdomen (during the end of orgasm sensations).
Avatar n tn What I found interesting, was that after looking at my favorite top 5, increase and decrease in libido was not even mentioned although they were quick to note side effects such as depression, vaginal dryness and legathy. Even the official website for Arimidex itself and the "largest known site for the most comprehensive list of side effects" doesn't touch libido...at all. Hmmm However, women taking this medication tell a different story.
Avatar m tn Stopping the Flomax at this stage really doesn't help. The effects on the iris are basically permanant by now. I would concentrate on finding the best cataract surgeon on your plan and make sure he or she has done dozens and dozens of Flomax cases and is very comortable with the management. Dr. David Chang in Los Altos, CA has written extensively on the best techniques to manage such cases.
Avatar m tn This has had the opposite effect by making me need to urinate more than before the Dextrol. Has anyone seen/had these side effects? I have another appt with urologist in 9 days. Just looking to see if this is expected or out of the ordinary. Thanks for any help and/or suggestions.
Avatar m tn That is a side effect of the flomax... what is happening is that the semen is being released into your bladder. The flomax is designed to relax the urinary sphincter muscle so the semen, when you ejaculate, takes the path of least resistance- which is into your bladder... it's a weird concept but that is what is happening.
Avatar m tn In Sept of 08 I recieved unprotected oral sex from a female in October I was having trerrible pain in my lower back and below my scrotum and left side of my penis. I went to the ER and they tested for Chlymidia and Gonorhea only, I test negative for both. After seeing my regular doctor he diagnosied me with prostatitus and I went on 5 weeks of Levaquin 500. The pain subsided but I noticed my urine flow was bad and I dripped a bit after I pee'd, I couldnt clear my bladder.
Avatar n tn HCV treatment can take on a certain drama and it may not be working out well in his household. The women may also be somehow physically exposed to the medications. Put them all away in a secure place and encourage the women to support the therapy by keeping him company, seeing to his exercise and dietary needs, and empathizing with his fatigue. I think they'll be happier and healthier if they come out of the medication loop.
Avatar m tn Well the Prostatitis recurred and coens and goes… I heard about the belt… reluctant to do the flomax hence the side effects…. It really does sucks….
Avatar n tn But the insomnia was miserable so I called my doctor to ask if there was anything I could do for the side effects, so he switched me to 3 wks of doxycycline, which I started taking immediately. Now I sleep OK but after two days the symptoms are back in full force. I'm wondering if I made a mistake in switching. Have others had similar experiences? Is doxy just slower to take effect?
Avatar m tn I am a 25 year old male. My symptoms are as follows: (1) Cloudy urine; (2) Frequent feeling of urgency; (3) Occasional burning on urination and ejaculation; (4) Weak urine flow. I am very frustrated, as I have seen two urologists (one for about a year) and neither have made any significant headway. First they hypothesized that I had a prostate infection and put me on all kinds of antibiotics -- to no avail.
Avatar m tn I saw a Urologist and he gave me flomax, but I had to stop it because I was have bad side effects from it. The flomax was before the drippy ejaculation problem started.
574118 tn?1305135284 My doc wrote omnic (flomax or tamuslusin) 0.4 mg. I got all the side effects (stuffy nose, put on weight, back pain, more urge to urinate, ache in penis and bladder, etc....) I wonder would it be better to do an operation. my doc says drug is better than operation, that I should continue on the drug fearing of obstruction one day. I am not a doc , rather an engineer, I learn in my field to destruct something if something goes wrong than to keep trying fixing it.
Avatar f tn The most common side effects are hot flashes and vaginal discharge. Some women experience irregular menstrual periods, headaches, fatigue, nausea and/or vomiting, vaginal dryness or itching, irritation of the skin around the vagina, and skin rash. As with menopause, not all women who take tamoxifen have these symptoms. Men who take tamoxifen may experience headaches, nausea and/or vomiting, skin rash, impotence, or a decrease in sexual interest.
Avatar f tn Most women have no lasting side effects from an epidural. Only about 2-3% of women have lasting side effects such as headaches and even less likely partial paralysis. The most common side effect of an epidural is a drop in moms BP. This can sometimes reduce fetal heart rate but usually isn't enough to cause any harm to mom or baby. If you go in and there are any concerns with baby's heart rate they may not allow an epidural at all.
