Common Questions and Answers about Flomax in women for kidney stones

flomax

Avatar f tn My question is do any of you see a pain management dr for pain related to kidney stones? Ive gotten stones for the last 18 years but they used to come about anywhere from once or twice a year with one 3 year gap of no stones which was heavenly. Now since novemeber they seem to forming rapidly. Is this any indication that this may continue to be a frequent problem or could this just be a flukish year? My urologist doesn't seem to have any real idea so i was looking for personal experiences.
Avatar f tn I've been having pain for 2 weeks that's been like my other kidney stones. I've had several surgerys to have them removed in the past so I know what I'm feeling. I went to my urologist today and he told me it's a 2mm stone in my kidney and shouldn't be causing pain. So why am I experiencing pain and was able to know it was a stone? Also I haven't been prescribed anything to help with it except narcotics for the pain. No flomax or anything. I don't know what to do.
Avatar n tn If your doc prescribed Flomax for the kidney stone, more than likely that is the issue, as it is also prescribed for prostate issues, and is a blocker, like the above poster mentioned. I know this, as I have the same issue... The Internet is a lovely thing...
Avatar n tn the only thing you can really do to help with preventing seeing me again for more kidney stones is to keep drinking lots of water. Even then, if you're prone to get them you will, but hopefully with the amount of water you're drinking and the Flomax helping too, you'll pass more of the stones you form and pass them more easily too".

187666 tn?1331173345 have had obvious blood in urine for just over a year now, tests revealed nothing till a month or two ago. Found a stone lodged in right kidney. Last Tues. night ended up in ER. Seems like stone finally decided to migrate south into the ureter but not out into the bladder yet. Not sure if I'll know when it passes. Was put on Flomax to ease things along. But still having loads of blood in urine. Wondering if I'll know when it goes and when I can stop the Flomax.
2143924 tn?1545284130 The size and location of ureter stones are the most important factors for predicting the spontaneous passage of the stone. Lithotripsy is a good option for stones 1 cm or less in the kidney and upper ureter. Consult a nephrologist for more queries and assistance. Hope it helped. Best luck and regards!
Avatar m tn It showed one +4mm kidney stones in my kidney. All my bloodwork and urine were fine. Was put on Flomax and told to screen my urine. All through the next two weeks i had constant pain in my left groin area but also had bursts of travelling pain from my kidney to my groin. Passed two smaller stones and several fragments. pain was increasing in my groin and started having nausea.
Avatar n tn I went to ER 10 days ago with what I thought must be my appendix exploding! 10+ pain in right lower flank area. They managed the immediate pain w/ IV which worked very quickly. After a CT scan they determined I have a 3mm stone making it's way from my right kidney to my bladder. They sent me home with a script for Norco and Flomax and told me to get a follow up appt. with my Dr., drink plenty of fluids, and strain my urine. It was a week before my Dr.
Avatar f tn In addition the therapy for renal stones depends on the size, the location and the kidney functions. Please consult your primary care physician who will do blood tests, x- rays and may ask for an ultrasonogram to find out the cause for stone formation. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Some others in here could probably answer that question better than I can for you. I would imagine it might depend on what your stones are comprised of. Have you had any of your stones tested yet?
Avatar f tn I also started taking a medication called FloMax prescribed for me by the VA Urologist and it seems to be working great, in conjunction with the bottled water. There is a generic brand for FloMax that is cheaper too. I'd sure look into getting on a daily FloMax regiment and watching what kind of water I was drinking. Oh yeah, as a non vegiterian, I'd also suggest a great big steak too! May not help you with the kidney stone problem but it sure will make you feel better!! LOL!
Avatar f tn I was at the ER all day yesterday with my first kidney stone and holy cow was that painful. I had a CT performed that showed 3 small stones inside my right kidney which are not bothering me but a 5mm stone in my left UVJ. the left also showing mild hydronephrosis which the ER doc says she would expect to find. she gave me pain meds and flomax and sent me on my way.
Avatar n tn t do a CT scan so he ordered one and I find out I had two kidney stones a 3x2mm in my left kidney and a 5x3mm in my right kidneys. Non obstructive and still in the kidneys in the lower pole. I was told I was at risk for them getting bigger. I got prescribed hydro's and sent home. 8 days later I was in even worse pain to the point I was in tears and so nauseous I couldn't eat. The pain was now in both flanks.
Avatar m tn I have had kidney stones pass and will do my first lithotripsy soon. The blockage in your urethra is normal for a kidney stone, but usually that means the stone or even just a part of it has started moving down the ureter. They can give you flomax to relax and open your ureter to help it pass. I was under the impression they can do lithotripsy no matter where the stone is because it works with sound waves. Did they say they don't want to do that?
Avatar n tn About 3 months ago I was told I had a kidney stone that was about 5mm in size. I was given pain meds and flomax, however I never passed the stone. Recently my stones started acting up again and I was told to go to a Urologist to have them taken out. Well I cant get into the Urologist for 3 weeks and I have been suffering with extreme pain for 4 days now. The problem is that it has quit hurting in my back and side, and only hurts in my lower left abdomine now.
Avatar m tn As I understand, Flomax is off-label for use in women to help passage of kidney stones by smoothing the muscles of the ureter, etc. I know exactly how you feel ... A 3.0mm stone has a high chance to pass on it's own, but the waiting is the hardest part. You've gotten terrific advice above.
Avatar f tn husband had a kidney stone in june - 4 mm. has another one - 4mm. took his system 5 days to pass the first one, going on day 2 on this one. looking for any insight on how he could get one so quickly.
Avatar f tn I passed a lot of small pieces but ultrasound still shows about 3mm stone in kidney. My main symptom since July 14th is the CONSTANT urge to urinate all day everyday. My urologist just kind of blows it off and says it is from small pieces still trying to pass. I just don't get it. I have no blockage or anything. Does this sound normal? The constant urge to urinate is becoming debilitating. Has anyone experienced this?
Avatar f tn Yup it is officially kidney stones. I was in the er again yesterday and they found a few stonea in my kidney that need to be blasted but they cant do it til after baby is born. Im in so much pain it is unbearable. This is way more paib than actually giving birth.
Avatar m tn It could be kidney stones, a urinary tract infection, kidney infection, bladder infection, or tears/abrasions to any of the above (kidney, bladder or urinary tract.) Blood in the urine is the symptom of something that is likely much more serious.
Avatar m tn Emerg visit this month showed (big surprise) on CT, two left kidney stones 2-3 mm, one in kidney and one between bladder and kidney. This is the first time CT has been done laying on stomach. If part of this has been kidney stones all along, why might I be getting severe abdominal bloat with these episodes? I have not passed stone yet (week 3) but put on Flomax 3 days ago and bloat seems to be reducing. Thanks for your suggestions.
Avatar f tn t know for sure what was wrong with me so he made me an appointment with a urologist and he also gave me a couple weeks of flomax for my symptoms just in case I had kidney stones.
Avatar f tn I have had a pinching pain down there a few times which with previous kidney stones for me meant it dropped into my bladder and my symptoms were then all gone. My situation and question is this. I do not have health insurance right now and cannot afford to go to the urologist for self pay ($600 min). If the urinary urgency is so bad at times and I've had that pinching pain a few times, doesn't it sound like the stone is right there at the bladder drop and just stuck and not dropping?
