Common Questions and Answers about Flomax for kidney stone

flomax

Avatar n tn If your doc prescribed Flomax for the kidney stone, more than likely that is the issue, as it is also prescribed for prostate issues, and is a blocker, like the above poster mentioned. I know this, as I have the same issue... The Internet is a lovely thing...
187666 tn?1331173345 In people who do not pass kidney stone lithotripsy is the treatment of choice. It is indicated for stones 1 cm or less in the kidney and upper ureter. Contact your doctor if the haematuria is persisting. Persistent haematuria can lead to weakness, dizziness and hypotension. A medical evaluation is important. Best wishes and regards!

Avatar f tn I passed a lot of small pieces but ultrasound still shows about 3mm stone in kidney. My main symptom since July 14th is the CONSTANT urge to urinate all day everyday. My urologist just kind of blows it off and says it is from small pieces still trying to pass. I just don't get it. I have no blockage or anything. Does this sound normal? The constant urge to urinate is becoming debilitating. Has anyone experienced this?
Avatar f tn t know if this is going to be a truly long term problem once i pass the stones i have now and Ive never heard of someone seeing a dr like this for kidney stone pain. Although i completely understand my urologist feeling more comfortable not prescribing pain meds possibly long term. My question is do any of you see a pain management dr for pain related to kidney stones?
Avatar n tn I went to ER 10 days ago with what I thought must be my appendix exploding! 10+ pain in right lower flank area. They managed the immediate pain w/ IV which worked very quickly. After a CT scan they determined I have a 3mm stone making it's way from my right kidney to my bladder. They sent me home with a script for Norco and Flomax and told me to get a follow up appt. with my Dr., drink plenty of fluids, and strain my urine. It was a week before my Dr.
Avatar n tn I passed the kidney stone now I started taking Magnesium citrate for kidney stone prevention? and where do I buy 10 mg of pyridoxine (vitamin B6)?
Avatar n tn I'm not sure where you're getting the info that stent removal has all this pain attached to it. Have you had a stent before and had severe pain when it was removed? I've had a stent and there was discomfort when it was removed but not the severe pain you are indicating. There may be a burning sensation for a day or two afterwards when urinating, and even then the amount of that burning sensation differs from person to person and male to female.
Avatar f tn The causes for stone formation are urinary tract infections, kidney disorders and metabolic disorders like hyperparathyroidism. In addition to this if the person has a strong family history is more likely to develop stones. So, the stone formation causes need to be dealt with to prevent stone formation. In addition the therapy for renal stones depends on the size, the location and the kidney functions.
Avatar f tn I've been having pain for 2 weeks that's been like my other kidney stones. I've had several surgerys to have them removed in the past so I know what I'm feeling. I went to my urologist today and he told me it's a 2mm stone in my kidney and shouldn't be causing pain. So why am I experiencing pain and was able to know it was a stone? Also I haven't been prescribed anything to help with it except narcotics for the pain. No flomax or anything. I don't know what to do.
Avatar m tn I have had kidney stones pass and will do my first lithotripsy soon. The blockage in your urethra is normal for a kidney stone, but usually that means the stone or even just a part of it has started moving down the ureter. They can give you flomax to relax and open your ureter to help it pass. I was under the impression they can do lithotripsy no matter where the stone is because it works with sound waves. Did they say they don't want to do that?
Avatar m tn I am suffering from UTI for last three months. USG results a 4.9 mm stone in lower pole of left kidney. Doctor advised me to take DISTONE (2 Tab 8Hrly).
Avatar f tn I also started taking a medication called FloMax prescribed for me by the VA Urologist and it seems to be working great, in conjunction with the bottled water. There is a generic brand for FloMax that is cheaper too. I'd sure look into getting on a daily FloMax regiment and watching what kind of water I was drinking. Oh yeah, as a non vegiterian, I'd also suggest a great big steak too! May not help you with the kidney stone problem but it sure will make you feel better!! LOL!
Avatar n tn Sorry about your kidney-stone, Brother. I feel your pain, literally! I get them all the time and take Tamsulosin (Flomax). Hopefully your doctor instructed you to drink PLENTY of water (3L-5L/day) until you pass the stone. Did he? If not, DRINK LOTS OF WATER. The mild burning sensation comes with the territory, but drinking plenty of fluids will help dilute your urine. I wouldn't worry too much about it, unless it persists after you pass the stone.
Avatar f tn 5 weeks ago I started having really bad pain on my back/side, nausea, urinary urgency, along with a few other of my classic kidney stone symptoms. I have been drinking like crazy since then and taking Flomax 1x day. The pain only lasted 2 days and then it went to my normal being "crampy" on my side here and there like I usually have. The urinary urgency has not left. At times it's really bad and other times it's not.
Avatar n tn About 3 months ago I was told I had a kidney stone that was about 5mm in size. I was given pain meds and flomax, however I never passed the stone. Recently my stones started acting up again and I was told to go to a Urologist to have them taken out. Well I cant get into the Urologist for 3 weeks and I have been suffering with extreme pain for 4 days now. The problem is that it has quit hurting in my back and side, and only hurts in my lower left abdomine now.
Avatar m tn It showed one +4mm kidney stones in my kidney. All my bloodwork and urine were fine. Was put on Flomax and told to screen my urine. All through the next two weeks i had constant pain in my left groin area but also had bursts of travelling pain from my kidney to my groin. Passed two smaller stones and several fragments. pain was increasing in my groin and started having nausea.
Avatar m tn I discovered a kidney stone on my left side 5 days ago and it was most pain the I ever had before .first couple days it was so painful then the third day just had the pain st the morning and I didn't have any pain since and also I'm watching my urinating and didn't see any stone comes out yet and I have to go work tomorrow and can't decide what to do .?
Avatar f tn I was at the ER all day yesterday with my first kidney stone and holy cow was that painful. I had a CT performed that showed 3 small stones inside my right kidney which are not bothering me but a 5mm stone in my left UVJ. the left also showing mild hydronephrosis which the ER doc says she would expect to find. she gave me pain meds and flomax and sent me on my way.
Avatar f tn Long story short, I have about a 12 yr history with stones, had to have the first two surgically removed but have passed all of the others on my own (10+). I have had this current stone since July. The pain and symptoms would come and go to where I could deal with it and continue trying to pass it. In October I finally went to a Urologist and had a CT done because the urinary symptoms had gotten so bad. They said that it was right at the bladder and to take the Flomax and drink up.
Avatar n tn 5 kidney stone. After a day or so, pain vanished. MONTHS later, I had another CAT scan for GI issues. They said "You know you have a kidney stone, it's not blocking anything, just thought we'd mention." Went to Urologist, he said "Well if it's the same one, it is traveled quite bit, now it's in the distal ureter. Let's talk an ultrasound in 30 days.
Avatar n tn I would go to the ER or see your doctor right away to make sure it is not your appendix and to get some meds for it. Many doctors are now giving Flomax for kidney stones in addition to the other medications they have been prescribing. This helps open the ureters to help the stone get through easier.
Avatar m tn I passed a 7.5mm dark brown stone about 8 months ago (looked like brown glass). About 2 months ago I started having the same "kidney stone" pains again on my left side. Went back to the urologist and explained the pains were the same, so started on Flomax. The only thing different this time is NO blood detected in urine. I went for CT scan last week and results are NO stone. It feels just the same as when I had a stone and like I said the only difference in no blood in urine.
