Common Questions and Answers about Flomax eye surgery

flomax

Avatar n tn I've taken flomax for several years, and want to undergo cataract surgery. What should I expect? This discussion is related to Cataract surgery and Flomax.
Avatar m tn Yes. However, the damage to the eye has already been done it you had taken flomax. Dr. O.
Avatar m tn ve been taking Avodart for over a year. Should I stop taking Avodart and wait awhile before cataract surgery or will the informed Dr be able to work with my eyes? I've never taken Flomax and have heard the warnings from the commercial and read about Flomax. I'm concerned about any complications. I'm also pretty active. Can I still swim after surgery and what are the chances of the lens shifting or coming loose?
Avatar f tn Postpone surgery on the right eye until the first eye heals and you are happy and the eye is "out of the woods". Find out exactly what the complications were and what the implications are. This type of surgery usually only takes 15 minutes. Did he have "floppy iris syndrome" due to flomax? Did he have vitreous loss? Did the capsule break. Get all the details.
Avatar n tn It is far too early to get discouraged. Flomax does not slow the healing of the eye. In some men on flowmax it causes "floppy iris syndrome" where the pupil will not stay dilated and makes it much more difficult for the surgery to be done.
Avatar f tn During cataract surgery the posterior capsule was damaged. I cannot see from that eye except for a very thick cloud... I was sent to the Eye Institute inOttawa,Ontario for possible surgery,a week after surgeryThere I could visualize the shape of 2 fingers about 8 inches from my nose .
Avatar m tn He told me that he had discussed the problem he had had with my eye with a colleague( when I mentioned the Flomax thing to him) and his friend had said that he was sure that I was on Flomax. He said that he had heard about it before but, to quote him, ``He always Poo Poohed the idea`` Anyway, let`s hope things go well with the next procedure now that he knows what to expect.
Avatar m tn Would Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery help avoiding complications, such as IFIS, in a male patient who has taken tamsulosin (Flomax)?
Avatar m tn I currently see double from the eye that had the surgery, especially reading signs that are 75 yards away, but I have been released to drive and work. This has indeed been a frustrating experience, but it beats having no vision in the one eye. I did use the search function and I see that there are many cases far worst than my own. My detachment was on the peripherel from 11 to 5 on the outside.
Avatar f tn s better to go the laser to prevent glaucoma first so that the eye pressure will be under better control when she does the cataract surgery later. Does it sound right?
1580703 tn?1651904887 if you google Flomax forum there's a discus thrower who reported loss of strength on it. my left eye which was going blind from bell's is now weaker.
Avatar n tn I had the same problem with Flomax and Rapaflo.and not being able to *** was not acceptable. Also surgery such as TURP willl do the same thing.
Avatar n tn I'm 46 yrs old male I have had kidney stone surgery 8/26/08. I have been on a cather off and on for about 3 to 4 weeks now also I have been on flomax for a week. I have problems urinateing on my own sense surgery. I go to my urologist he takes out cather try to urinate but can't. My question is am I to anxious?
Avatar m tn I can't tell which one is correct, whether either are correct and even consultant #2 can't tell you if the folds will go away with time. Many patients at the time of surgery are found to have a cloudy posterior capsule and need a yag capsulotomy relatively soon. You are lucky if your only problem is the posterior capsule as your 2nd and 3rd opinion suggest as a yag capsulotomy will help that problem. Better that then retina problem, dislocated IOL, etc.
Avatar m tn Most 3mm UVJ stones pass without surgery, and Flomax and fluids are all you can do. If it has not passed, the treatment of choice would probably be ureteroscopy, an endoscopic procedure to break up and remove the stone.
Avatar m tn Hi, Thanks for writing in. Prostatitis is usually not a side effect of use of flomax, indeed it can happen due to BPH, for which flomax is used as treatment. It would be better to get prostrate examination done by a urologist and take opinion for surgery for resolving these symptoms. Choice of antibiotics depends upon the kind of organism affecting the prostrate. Best.
Avatar n tn Causes of retrograde ejaculation include diabetes, damage or injury to the prostate such as due to prostate surgery, and certain medications, such as alpha blockers used to treat enlarged prostate. Surgical removal of the prostate (prostatectomy). Surgical removal of the bladder (cystectomy). Radiation therapy directed at the pelvic area, such as for prostate cancer." Source :http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/mens-health/AN00630 Have you had any of the possible causes mentioned above?
Avatar m tn That is probably because my urologist (who performed the surgery) did not take me off the Flomax until about a month after the operation. After stopping the Flomax, my urinary continence improve greatly. I had much more control with my urination and was only getting up to urinate during the night once, if at all. I continued to have the retrograde ejaculation, which I expected, based on what my urologist had told me.
Avatar n tn But as someone who has suffered with this and had surgery for it, flomax does not stop the prostate from continuing to get larger, so again, it's time to go back to your urologist and get an ultrasound. Peace.
Avatar n tn I am experiencing the same problem which started occuring about 3 1/2 yars after having had the surgery. Since the original question was posted some time ago, I was wondering if any studies have been done as to the cause of this problem and if there are any effective treatments available. I have discussed this with my primary care physician and he suggested staying well hydrated which doesn't seem to be working. I thoroughly enjoy sex up to the point of orgasm.
Avatar m tn I have taken Flomax for a week, and am very weary of the side effects. It effects my vision - I can feel it in my eyes. It dulls my brain, I can feel it in my head. It caused the ringing in my ears to get worse. I've had minor chest pain for a few days. All of these are on the list of side effects.
Avatar m tn I have been on this medicine (together with a double dose of Flomax) for the past two years. I have noticed a definite improvement in urinary symptoms (fewer trips to the bathroom, better flow), but it has wreaked havoc with my sex life (no erections, no ejaculation). I would like to quit, but am afraid that the effects of quitting might be worse than the ones I am currently experiencing. I am 69 years old.
Avatar m tn With the advent of laproscopy and Robotoic Assisted surgery, it seems form what I read that the surgery to remove the prostate, while still major, is alot safer and has less complications than the old standard open removal surgery. They make a series of small cuts rather than one large one, you only stay 1-2 days in hospital, only have catheter about a week, and the surgeon is better able to preserve the nerves that control ED and incontinence, redusing the risk.
Avatar f tn I'm a 50-year old male, who was diagnosed with MS in 2000. I've had two major flare-ups (exacerbations), primarily related to balance, spasticity, optic neuritis, and lack of sensation from the waist down. I've not had any lasting nerve damage, other than slightly off-kilter balance, occasional optic disturbances in my left eye, and dampened sensations from my knees to my feet. I'm still ambulatory and work 40 hours a week.
