Flomax bladder

Common Questions and Answers about Flomax bladder

flomax

Avatar m tn what is happening is that the semen is being released into your bladder. The flomax is designed to relax the urinary sphincter muscle so the semen, when you ejaculate, takes the path of least resistance- which is into your bladder... it's a weird concept but that is what is happening.
Avatar m tn I did not associate it with flomax until recently. Is it harmful if I stop taking the flomax and is this the cause of my retro? This discussion is related to Retrograde Ejaculation from Flomax......permanent or not?.
Avatar m tn Hi, Thanks for writing in. Prostatitis is usually not a side effect of use of flomax, indeed it can happen due to BPH, for which flomax is used as treatment. It would be better to get prostrate examination done by a urologist and take opinion for surgery for resolving these symptoms. Choice of antibiotics depends upon the kind of organism affecting the prostrate. Best.
Avatar n tn , where normal for him means slow urination due to long standing BHP, but not as slow, painful, and dribbling as with Flomax. We are just guessing that the way Flomax works by relaxing muscles is causing these effects. (Could the enlarged prostate end up pressing even more on muscles?? I realize these are just guesses: I have looked at a lot of medical sites, but this does not look like to be listed as a side effect!
Avatar m tn I have SEVERE lower back pain(Continually) my doctor gave me Cipro (Antibiotic) thinking perhaps I had an infection, I've finally taken all the antibiotic, however the lower back pain still present. Are there other proven symptoms I may have that I am not aware of, doesn't hurt when I urinate, however I don't always empty my bladder, I take Flomax(without Flomax I probably wouldn't even be able to go to the bathroom. Anyone experience this. Thank You.
Avatar m tn Saw my primary MD today. He said that the Flomax relaxes muscles in the bladder and prostate, and the Avodart shrinks the prostate. He said that after a year or so, if the prostate has gone down and reduced the problems, they like to eliminate the Flomax, as it is no longer necessary. Long story short, I now have a prescription for Avodart alone. I realize that it may not reduce the surgery risk, but one less drug is a good thing.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I was given cipro and Flomax for pelvic pain and a UTI. the pain was through the whole pelvis and also individual veins or spermatic cord. does Flomax permanently shrink your prostate or reduce testosterone levels? I read one forum where people where saying they had a permanent loss of strength, could not throw the discus as far?
Avatar m tn The urge frequency was sometimes unbearable!! Anyhow started on Flomax, and in just one day noticed the frequency (6-8x day to 4x) and urgency diminished. If no BPH...how is the Flomax working??? Thanks!
Avatar n tn I have been on a cather off and on for about 3 to 4 weeks now also I have been on flomax for a week. I have problems urinateing on my own sense surgery. I go to my urologist he takes out cather try to urinate but can't. My question is am I to anxious?
Avatar n tn In this condition, semen is forced back into the bladder instead of out through the penis. Causes of retrograde ejaculation include diabetes, damage or injury to the prostate such as due to prostate surgery, and certain medications, such as alpha blockers used to treat enlarged prostate. Surgical removal of the prostate (prostatectomy). Surgical removal of the bladder (cystectomy). Radiation therapy directed at the pelvic area, such as for prostate cancer." Source :http://www.
Avatar f tn In October I finally went to a Urologist and had a CT done because the urinary symptoms had gotten so bad. They said that it was right at the bladder and to take the Flomax and drink up. Over the past few months the urinary symptoms have gotten so awful; almost constant urgency, lots of pressure down there and burning. The crazy thing is that sometimes I have absolutely no symptoms at all. Sometimes that's for half a day but sometimes a day or two and then it comes back full force.
Avatar n tn Age 64, with flomax I experience no pleasure with my orgasms. Is this because of the retrograd ejac. or is it a side effect of the medication? I may need to have surgery to improve my urinary flow, but retrograde ejac is a common outcome of these surgeries, and I need to know if I am at risk for losing my orgasm pleasure . I do see an occasional posting of men who have lost their pleasure after these surgeries, with no recourse.
Avatar m tn When you have BPH, the flow from the bladder and prostate are greatly restricted and usually force the ejaculate into the bladder. Flomax helps reduce the size of the prostate and permits freer flowing urine. If you discontinue use of Flomax, your voiding would be more difficult and leave residuals in your bladder setting you up for some ugly uti's in the future and you would still have a retrograde ejaculation.
Avatar m tn Later after a urodynamics test, I was found to have a neurogenic bladder. The Flomax worked for me to enable me to urinate during the day. I also used self catheterization to ensure that my bladder was empty. Without the Flomax, I will only be able to urinate by using a catheter. In 2008 I ended up with a fistual between my prostate and rectum and have had a suprapubic catheter in for the last 3.5 years. Currently, I'm 47 and have not had any sort of sex life since 2008.
Avatar m tn I hear ya... I've been on .4 Flomax since January and its hard to get off of it. It basically tells the bladder neck muscles = "ok we are going to do your job now, take a break"... so to speak.. but when you stop it seems neither the muscles or the drug obviously are doing the job and they tighten back up and I get he urine retention again... Its very frustrating because I was doing exceptionally well before trying to stop.
Avatar n tn I'm a male, age 18, and I'm having a whole lot of trouble urinating. I've had trouble with this in the past, but god, it's never been this bad. A few years ago I first noticed difficulty peeing at my ex girlfriend's house. Looking into the condition, I figured it must be paruresis. However, last year, after getting surgery (I had a pilonidal sinus removed), I found that I COULD NOT pee when I got home.
Avatar m tn am a male 42 years old. I was diagnosed with minimal prostate hyperplasia and bladder neck hypertrophy. Are these two different conditions with different treatments? The urine culture always came out negative but even then I have taken oflaxcin for 6 weeks and then Bectrin DS for 4 weeks. Antibiotics help for a while but then cause more problems like stomach pain and cramps. I had leukocytes in the urine but the culture was negative. I have been on flomax (0.
Avatar n tn Are you taking Flomax for prostate issues? Flomax works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder and prostate, which leads to improved flow of urine and fewer symptoms of BPH. It indeed can have side effects like you describe. https://www.healthline.com/health/enlarged-prostate/flomax-side-effects#side-effects It's a relatively low percentage of patients, less than 4% that have these types of side effects but none the less, that could be going on for you.
Avatar m tn Do you have any type of spinal cord injury or maybe a neurogenic bladder? If you have bladder spasms, this would cause you to flow around the catheter and if strong enough, it could cause the catheter trough the urethra even with the bubble inflated. A trans-uretheral recection of the prostate (TURP) surgery may help you a lot. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Have seen the urologist 4 times and he is having me self cath after each voiding and then keeping a journal of how much urine is staying in my bladder. He said that my bladder is stretched really big. They did put me on Flomax which helped me urinate more often and took the pain and difficulty in urinating away. I had been on Flomax since a hospitalization in January of 2007, but in the summer, my nephrologist took me off the medication.
Avatar n tn I am wondering if there is any treatment, besides a catheter, for a distended bladder. I have had several tests done - none of them indicating that there is any obvious blockage - but have concluded that my bladder is obviously distended. Very rarely get a strong urge to urinate, when i do go not that much comes out and it is somewhat difficult to release - seemingly no pressure.
Avatar m tn t know how that could be. He prescribed flomax, and I have been on it ever since. Flomax helps a little, but I still have urgency. Also, like Jbrooks, my symptoms are amplified after a bowel movement. No one can explain what is going on. I also noticed that when my symptoms are the worst, my urine is almost clear like water and I pass a decent amount of urine. It has a peculiar smell as well. So, here I am with no answers.
Avatar f tn My neurologist recently put me on a Detrol LA for a week, then had me add Flomax. I noticed a slight improvement with the Detrol, but when I added the Flomax things urinary got dramatically better. But, shortly after starting the Flomax, I discovered that I did not produce any ejaculate! Not that sex is a big thing with me (staying upright while standing takes precidence), but it is still an important part of life (if only rarely).
187666 tn?1331173345 Quick question for anyone who's been through this: how long does it take once a stone passes for the blood in the urine to stop? Long story short: have had obvious blood in urine for just over a year now, tests revealed nothing till a month or two ago. Found a stone lodged in right kidney. Last Tues. night ended up in ER. Seems like stone finally decided to migrate south into the ureter but not out into the bladder yet. Not sure if I'll know when it passes.
Avatar m tn Perhaps the community can help with this one. 35M with history of off and on non bacterial prostatitis episodes going back to 18 or 19 years old. Sometimes it would be treated with antibiotics other times Flomax. Either way they all resolved easily after a week or so. fast forward to a month ago I had an external hemorrhoid develop and also had urgency and frequency. Doc said it was related to the hemorrhoid and gave me a cream. the issue resolved within a couple days.
Avatar f tn I currently have an indewelling catheter. I guess I should have stated my question better with more information. I'm currently waiting to go see my doctor after receiving the news about my bladder. I was just wondering what kind of treatment someone else had been through with it. I started off with cystis and the dr putting a treatment directly into my bladder but they didn't help. I've tried several meds including flomax and urocloic.
