Flomax can cause "floppy iris syndrome" (FIS). A small percentage of people on Flomax and a much much smaller % of people that were on Flomax in the past but not on it now have FIS. FIS can make surgery, usually cataract, more difficult as the pupil does not stay dilated. However FIS is now widely recognized and special techniques have been devised to deal with the floppy, contracting iris.

On follow up two weeks later my vision had not resolved (blurred) and the surgeon advised that there was an inflamation which he hoped would go away with heavy application of Maxidex eye drops. It did not and on subsequent examination he advised that the vitreous gel was seeping around the lens and obscuring the pupil. He said that the lens was correctly located and the capsule intact.

I stopped, and when the urinary issues seemed to be more problematic again, I returned to the added Flomax, and immediately discovered the same lack of semen and abdominal pain (during the 2 months not taking Flomax, ejaculatory function returned to normal). Saw my primary MD today. He said that the Flomax relaxes muscles in the bladder and prostate, and the Avodart shrinks the prostate. He said that after a year or so, if the prostate has gone down and reduced the problems, they like to eliminate the Flomax, as it is no longer necessary. Long story short, I now have a prescription for Avodart alone. I realize that it may not reduce the surgery risk, but one less drug is a good thing.

A YAG iridotomy will not worsen his cataract, but will open the anterior chamber angle and prevent a sudden attack of angle closure glaucoma. If the cataract is significantly affecting your father's vision, then removal of the cataract will also open the angle and improve vision as well. If he has the cataract surgery, he will not need the laser iridotomy.

I want to have it done but because of the previous procedure and his not being aware of the effect of Flomax I have lost confidence in the Dr. He is very experienced and has been working at a partially subsidized hospital for many years. What do you suggest? What should I do?

I have taken Flomax for a week, and am very weary of the side effects. It effects my vision - I can feel it in my eyes. It dulls my brain, I can feel it in my head. It caused the ringing in my ears to get worse. I've had minor chest pain for a few days. All of these are on the list of side effects.

Should I stop taking Avodart and wait awhile before cataract surgery or will the informed Dr be able to work with my eyes? Postpone surgery on the right eye until the first eye heals and you are happy and the eye is "out of the woods". Find out exactly what the complications were and what the implications are. This type of surgery usually only takes 15 minutes. Did he have "floppy iris syndrome" due to flomax? Did he have vitreous loss? Did the capsule break. Get all the details.

I am 77 years old and have been taking Flomax for about 2 years. I have had cool thermo therapy for enlarged prostrate about 2 years ago. Unrination is really no problem anymore, but I have a problem with getting erections and now when I ejaculate I have no semon in me. Also have a runny nose mostly in the a.m. What is your advice and opinion for this problem. I read a question that a person was taking flomax and found he had dry ejaculation, just wanted to confirm it. I have been prescribe flomax.

If you can review and advise only for Flomax/Urimax instead of VELTAM,it may help me to discuss with my physician who started treatment once again after a month break. I've heard taking Flomax and hour or 2 before will soften the prostate and allow the antibiotic to better penetrate the prostate? t seem to be a great drug since it lowers blood pressure too much, I almost fainted on losartan and flomax. Is it true it permenently exhausts you and causes muscle weakness?

I don't think it's a good drug, I have normal BP and it lowered my BP 10 points. does flomax cause exhaustion and permanent tiredness like one forum says?
