flomax and insomnia

Saw my primary MD today. He said that the Flomax relaxes muscles in the bladder and prostate, and the Avodart shrinks the prostate. He said that after a year or so, if the prostate has gone down and reduced the problems, they like to eliminate the Flomax, as it is no longer necessary. Long story short, I now have a prescription for Avodart alone. I realize that it may not reduce the surgery risk, but one less drug is a good thing.

I request info about triple therapy and prostatitis as I also suffer from prostatitis.... also depression and anziety which are being controlled daily with flomax and ativan respectively. I am disabled with severe back pain....... recently weaned myself off of methadone 20mg daily for pain. I still take 25mg to 30 mg oxycodone for pain control. 1.5 mg daily for anziety. Most days I am not out of the house.... others I do not get out of bed. I have tried antidepressants such as lexipro...

I tried it for two days but experienced anxiety and insomnia, although I must say by the second day the urinary symptoms were completely gone. But the insomnia was miserable so I called my doctor to ask if there was anything I could do for the side effects, so he switched me to 3 wks of doxycycline, which I started taking immediately. Now I sleep OK but after two days the symptoms are back in full force. I'm wondering if I made a mistake in switching.

I'm 68 years old and have had Cataracts for over 2 years. I've been taking Avodart for over a year. Should I stop taking Avodart and wait awhile before cataract surgery or will the informed Dr be able to work with my eyes? I've never taken Flomax and have heard the warnings from the commercial and read about Flomax. I'm concerned about any complications. I'm also pretty active. Can I still swim after surgery and what are the chances of the lens shifting or coming loose?

Are you taking Flomax for prostate issues? Flomax works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder and prostate, which leads to improved flow of urine and fewer symptoms of BPH. I am 77 years old and have been taking Flomax for about 2 years. I have had cool thermo therapy for enlarged prostrate about 2 years ago. Unrination is really no problem anymore, but I have a problem with getting erections and now when I ejaculate I have no semon in me. Also have a runny nose mostly in the a.m. What is your advice and opinion for this problem. I was given cipro and Flomax for pelvic pain and a UTI. the pain was through the whole pelvis and also individual veins or spermatic cord. does Flomax permanently shrink your prostate or reduce testosterone levels? I read one forum where people where saying they had a permanent loss of strength, could not throw the discus as far?

I stopped, and when the urinary issues seemed to be more problematic again, I returned to the added Flomax, and immediately discovered the same lack of semen and abdominal pain (during the 2 months not taking Flomax, ejaculatory function returned to normal). My question (after all that build up) is are any other men here on Flomax combined with Detrol LA? And, if so, has anyone had the same experiences that I previously explained?

I read a question that a person was taking flomax and found he had dry ejaculation, just wanted to confirm it. I have been prescribe flomax.

I would concentrate on finding the best cataract surgeon on your plan and make sure he or she has done dozens and dozens of Flomax cases and is very comortable with the management. Dr. David Chang in Los Altos, CA has written extensively on the best techniques to manage such cases.

I've heard taking Flomax and hour or 2 before will soften the prostate and allow the antibiotic to better penetrate the prostate? I don't think it's a good drug, I have normal BP and it lowered my BP 10 points. does flomax cause exhaustion and permanent tiredness like one forum says?

Well the Prostatitis recurred and coens and goes… I heard about the belt… reluctant to do the flomax hence the side effects…. It really does sucks….

The urge frequency was sometimes unbearable!! Anyhow started on Flomax, and in just one day noticed the frequency (6-8x day to 4x) and urgency diminished. If no BPH...how is the Flomax working??? Thanks!
