Flexibility training runners

Common Questions and Answers about Flexibility training runners

flexibility

Avatar f tn Finally, using good shoes (ideally compensating for individual foot differences) is important. The shin can be trained for greater static and dynamic flexibility through adaptation, which will diminish the contracting reflex, and allow the muscles to handle the rapid stretch. The key to this is to stretch the shins regularly. However, static stretching might not be enough. To adapt a muscle to rapid, eccentric contraction, it has to acquire greater dynamic flexibility as well.
Avatar f tn I would like to run/walk a 5k. Any runners out there? I need a training schedule and ideas of how long to train. I walk 4 miles every day and currently walk a 13 minute mile. I am looking at a 5k 4 weeks from now and 8 weeks. I would like to do both, but will register for the later one if I need more time to train. I would like to step it up to some type of running, even if my time is quite slow.
Avatar f tn I want to make sure to prevent something bad (like some of the things I've read). I am training for the NY Marathon now and it's about 2 months away. I have had runner's knee before and so as a preventative have gone to the doctor who cured me (using ART, active release therapy) every other week. My knees are pretty much symptom free as a result. He is a tri-athlete chiro focused on runners/athletes and just does some preventative deep massages and ART.
Avatar f tn Marathoners benefit from a higher carbohydrate load, says Running Planet. Where you are in your training plan also influences a runner's diet. If you are in the long-run stage of training for a marathon or ultra marathon, you will need more calories and carbs. Fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, unsaturated fats and low-fat dairy. No processed foods they have extra sodium, sugar and fat and doesn't offer nutrition to working muscles.
Avatar n tn I just got into weight training but I dint know how to eat right. Can someone please guide me and show me a plan for teens or something.HELP.
Avatar f tn If you enjoy running training for a race like 1/2 marathon is a great way to improve fitness. I like runners worlds plans and Hal Higgins training programs.
Avatar n tn I was not an avid runner, it was a new years resolution to start it, by the summer I found out i was pregnant and I didn't want to use it an an out excuse. So. I kept running. My doctor and runners forums advised watching my temp and heart rate and obviously how you are feeling. So that's what I did, I jogged vs ran. I continued up till 7 mths. My last hoorah was a half marathon!
Avatar m tn Hey, I'm currently at a healthy 13.5% body fat but I'm an athlete so I'm really trying to drop that down to under 10%. I've been doing High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) in between weight lifting days and eating primarily proteins, healthy fats, and a small amount of carbs for breakfast and after excersise. I'm trying to lose as much fat as possible in the next two weeks.
703362 tn?1427766328 looking to advance to 10Ks this year). When I am training, right now on the treadmill due to the cold, I find the first 1 1/2 miles to be the hardest...and things get easier for the most part after that. I do have asthma and that plays into it a bit with the breathing, but I also get the burning and tightness in the calves during that first 1 1/2 miles.
Avatar f tn this past xc season I took three weeks off training after the state meet and when I returned to running my feet seriously burned during the run and for hours afterward. That was two months ago and it's still like that except now the burning goes away almost immediately once I take off my shoes after a run. I can run for about three miles before the burning starts.
973741 tn?1342342773 t have this problem in training and only in competition, it could be nerves. A lot of the highest level athletes have this problem, though they usually get nauseous before competing, not during or after. Just a thought.
20893158 tn?1579358911 s wise to alternate activities at least some, and getting some resistance training in as well and flexibility training can at least potentially reduce the costs of running. Peace.
Avatar m tn People who are new to working out they should start off their training program with 2 effective abdominal training sessions per week training each of the abdominal sections, start off slow and just do 4-5 sets of crunches at each session. Then, as you feel they are getting less sore and better conditioned for that type of workout, you should add a few more sets to each session or throw in new exercises, like hanging knee raises.
Avatar m tn Hello, I'm 18 years old, and I started working out in the gym a few months ago. Up until now I haven't done any cardio, except for ski in the gym sometimes. I'm 5'7 and 176lbs (~80kg), and I've decided that I have to start running and do more cardio. Today I started running near the beach , and after about a minute I started feeling pain in my lower back.
973741 tn?1342342773 This coach has coached my son through two cross country seasons, one track season and as far as they got before covid shut down sports last spring, so three months of training. He know my son and his ability. My son can't keep up with kids he's previously been able to and is struggling. Now, he' had depression this summer and maybe that mental health piece is impacting him. But I'm not sure. This is a new varsity group and they are not working together like previous groups.
Avatar n tn I know that peak flow readings are determined by height, age and WEIGHT. Looking at the normals for my height and age I should be greater than I am because I lower than the average weight.
Avatar f tn Thanks for post. It’s really informative stuff. I really like to read.Hope to learn a lot and have a nice experience here! my best regards guys! ----------------------- weight training--weight training [URL="http://www.trainwithmeonline.
973741 tn?1342342773 s why you usually eat them following training, not before. Before, you focus on electrolytes and carbs for energy. Some minerals also require acid to break them down, but others are the opposite. But acid doesn't usually cause throwing up, it causes heartburn and reflux if it causes anything, and in young people, well, they can usually eat pretty much anything and not be bothered by it because of their quick metabolism.
Avatar n tn My question is what is the accuracy of this type of finding on EKG? Could 20 years of weight training cause this or would the asthma be a more likely cause?
Avatar m tn Maybe 1/2 when he starts training. 1/2 test and see if he is high in the middle of training and bolus the rest. Monitor closely after the exercise (eat a protein /fat snack after) as sometimes people will go low after exercise (even if he went high during).. it is very individual how he will respond. So you guys need to monitor, keep track, and make adjustments. Hope this is helpful for you. Water, not too much. How long are the training runs?
Avatar f tn Use the workouts that make use of flexibility and stretching, strength training and aerobics for the best results. Fitting in regular sessions of weightlifting, calisthenics or other strength activities can help increase muscle mass and keep the body toned and strong. Aerobics will help with burning calories, endurance and weight management, and stretching helps prevent injuries and prepare the body for more intense movements.
Avatar n tn I have worked on marathon runners. I got to work on the first and second place runners in a 25 miler right after the run. The smell from their bodies, including their feet, was almost sweet. I was amazed. They have highly efficient metabolisms from proper training which in include their diet. As the more haggard and stressed stranglers came in, their smells got worse. If we don’t totally and cleanly combust all our fuel, the excretions like sweat are fouled, just as they are in automobiles.
Avatar f tn I'm a runner, I know runners with AFIB. Though I don't have afib I've been around it a lot (I have a different condition with PVCs). Everyone is very different in this regard. Sounds like he had Lone AFIB. Cardioversion cannot fix the root cause of the afib. The shock just hopefully stops the chaotic electrical pattern. It resets it. It's the first step to finding out what's wrong. If it doesn't ever come back, awesome!
Avatar m tn s getting to the point that I literally cannot miss a single training session. If I do the pain starts coming. It then only starts to go away after two or three training sessions. More info about the pain: It hurts when I look down, and it restricts my flexibility (it hurts to much to touch my toes). When it hurts I constantly move around because it relieves the pain (kind of like when you have to urinate) The pain feels almost like the growth pains that I use to get in my legs as a child.
