Avatar f tn Finally, using good shoes (ideally compensating for individual foot differences) is important. The shin can be trained for greater static and dynamic flexibility through adaptation, which will diminish the contracting reflex, and allow the muscles to handle the rapid stretch. The key to this is to stretch the shins regularly. However, static stretching might not be enough. To adapt a muscle to rapid, eccentric contraction, it has to acquire greater dynamic flexibility as well.
Avatar n tn There is no special diet needed for weight training, especially for a teenager. The special diets, which are high on protein, are for people who want to get very large muscles, but that's different from weight training. Those diets are also unhealthy, as too much protein strains the kidneys and the supplements and shakes and all that contain a lot of harmful ingredients and produce a dietary imbalance.
Avatar m tn But here is the funny part...It only happens if I have gone without a workout for a week or two. Initially I thought it's not so bad, because it forced me to get back in the gym if I have been lazy for a while. But recently the amount of "off time" required to bring on the pain is decreasing. It's getting to the point that I literally cannot miss a single training session. If I do the pain starts coming. It then only starts to go away after two or three training sessions.
Avatar n tn Vigorous low-impact exercise is beneficial – for your joints, as well as for cardiovascular, pulmonary, and other systems in your body. If you can't do vigorous exercise, try walking, tai chi and yoga. If you're overweight then you need to diet. Drink concentrated tart cherry juice. it contains anthocyanins and bioflavonoids, which help support a healthy immune response for your joints. Make sure you're getting your vit. D, omega-3 fatty acids from krill or high quality fish oil.
Avatar n tn Remember, if you do resistance training your thighs might not get any smaller, though they will get stronger and more toned. You could just have large thighs -- people come in all shapes and sizes -- but if it's in fact excess weight, then you have to look at what you're eating. I'd personally think that cardio would be best for losing weight, whereas weight training is best for turning fat into muscle, but proper nutrition is necessary for it to work optimally.
Avatar n tn It tests your physical endurance for sure. Basically you do extreme flexibility and strength poses in a blaring hot room that is hotter than a sauna. Supposedly really healthy for you. But people who cannot endure it physically end up puking sometimes. Also, always do some cardio with strength training. Are you in any sports? Could be could to balance it out. You need to learn the dangers of dehydration. If you work out a lot, you can't just drink plain water.
Avatar n tn How would you work on your legs and especially the knee area of fat to tone or lose?
Avatar n tn The trainer certainly used some new muscles, my legs were like rubber for the first few days, and I only used it for a few minutes. After one week, I go on it for 5 minutes at a low setting, but I've been stopping because my heart rate goes up to 140. Is that normal for someone who hasn't done any hard exercise for decades? I'm not that out of breath, no chest pains or anything like that, and my legs aren't that tired.
Avatar m tn Usually the main predictors of aortic dissection are family history, aortic size, and aortic flexibility. For someone of your aortic size, I would take it easy. Try the ARB approach with a max or ultra-max high dosage (as long as your doctor lets you) and see if that reduces aortic size and aortic flexibility (the "pulse pressure" is one way to estimate the flexibility - Google it). If so, then perhaps you can talk to your doctor about athletics.
20893158 tn?1579358911 s wise to alternate activities at least some, and getting some resistance training in as well and flexibility training can at least potentially reduce the costs of running. Peace.

Avatar m tn Hello doctor, I am 19 year old male from India and suffering from paraplegia since 2008 its pott's paraplegia. I had taken AKT-4 for 2 month and AKT-2 for 9 month in DOTS course. It was POTT'S SPINE WITH COMPRESSION FRACTURE D8, D9, D10 VERTEBRAE WITH PARAPLEGIA. Then i went for physiotherapy for 6 month but no result. Now i can't stand and no sensation on legs i also lost my control over bladder. What advice would you like to give me ?
Avatar m tn s uncomfortable to sit even for short periods of time as there is a dull pain from my glutes down the back of my legs. I have been to a spinal PT and I temporarily felt better but not much. He focused only on my spine and said my movement was very limited for a 27 year old. I had an X-ray taken in December that my Internal Med. Physician initially said revealed dehydrated discs around the S1 area but later said they looked fine. I have been doing yoga 3-5 times a week the past 1.
Avatar f tn Use laser and radiofrequency treatment for the legs. The idea is to induce changes in collagen fibers in the legs to create a smooth skin surface, according to Bruce Shack in a Vanderbilt University Medical Center study examining the effects of cellulite-smoothing techniques. Vigorous massage is supposed to stimulate blood flow and remove excess fluid from the legs. Creams may replenish nutrients in the skin cells of the legs and reinvigorate their look and shapeliness.
Avatar f tn Use the workouts that make use of flexibility and stretching, strength training and aerobics for the best results. Fitting in regular sessions of weightlifting, calisthenics or other strength activities can help increase muscle mass and keep the body toned and strong. Aerobics will help with burning calories, endurance and weight management, and stretching helps prevent injuries and prepare the body for more intense movements.
Avatar f tn I have found that the stretch bands are great for resistance training. There are many (as in, almost too many) DVDs and other inexpensive guides for using the bands. I have one that looks like a rubber band on steroids and a couple more that have handles on them. I am able to use them for certain body areas (especially my legs) by looping them over door handles. My treadmill is a cross trainer so I get some arm resistance training on that too. Your problem may be finding too much information!
Avatar f tn (I am 29 and exercise routinely with HIIT and strength training.). I have never had hip pain before, but I have had aches like this that have improved with rest and gradual return to my exercise routine. I exercised fine for about two weeks with that dull, intermittent pain in my hip. But for about a month now, my hip pain has become very severe. I have been unable to exercise or do much stretching at all. I even bought a cane to help me hobble around!
Avatar n tn They consist of stretching and holding different joint and muscle groups for 10 to 30 seconds each. Stretching improves flexibility, and daily stretching is the basis for any exercise program. Strength exercises involve working the muscle against resistance. This can be either with or without weights. Resistance training strengthens the muscle and increases the amount of activity you can do pain-free. Conditioning exercise, also called aerobic exercise, improves cardiovascular fitness.
Avatar n tn Ive also had several sports massages on my knees which really helps for a week or so and then the problems return, so it must not be treating the underlying problem. I haven't run since the injury occurred. I've played football (soccer) a few times, but not for over a month now and there isn't much of an improvement. What can I do about this? I love sports of all kinds but can't do anything at the moment. Is it just an injury that takes a long time to heal?
Avatar m tn Btw I am male 33yrs , was healthy before this and I was doing very hard Gym to practise for a everest base camp trek when this whole issue happened.
