Common Questions and Answers about Flexibility in your body

flexibility

Avatar m tn I have flexibility issues in almost all of my joints (Knees, elbow, wrist, ankle). Coincidentally, all the joints in the right side of my body are worse. I cannot squat as the back of my feet cannot touch my butt, my hand cannot touch my shoulder, cannot do pushup as wrist will hurt a lot. I have done xrays but doctor said my xrays are fine. Went through physiotherapy but joints flexibility does not improve no matter how much i stretched.
Avatar f tn One study performed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill showed that subjects who performed dynamic warm-ups had higher performance in the vertical jump test than those who just did standard stretching. Dynamic flexibility, which is moving your muscles and joints within your full range of motion repetitively, should be performed before weightlifting because it stimulates higher neural activity and increases tissue elasticity.
Avatar m tn I still suffer from excruciating cramp in my feet. Over the last 2 years I have built up the muscles in my feet and have increased flexibility with daily stretches and exercises but still suffer from painful cramp in my arches and toes. It seems to occur when my toes are pointed for long periods of time as I tend to tense my feet quite hard.
Avatar f tn I am not a doctor or a therapist, so you should consult with someone who is, but I suggest you try to find a fitness studio, gym, or physical therapy clinic that uses whole body vibration machines. Standing on a vibration platform can improve flexibility and mobility, and many people have reported relief from foot problems. Hope that helps!
Avatar m tn Wait -- did you just start running, or have you stepped it up in preparation for some kind of competition? If you've just started running, obviously you're running way too far too soon. Whatever you're doing, it's obviously too soon and your body isn't prepared for it. It might not even be a form of exercise your body takes well to. Listen to your body. It's talking to you. I think it's saying, hey, stop!
Avatar m tn If you choose to play, listen to your body when it starts to give out signals toyou, it may help save your life. A rupture in the root in a scenario like water polo could be a fatal event.
4309115 tn?1357606283 Hey there, Just a little feedback for you; I think there are different scenarios to consider. I f your health in general is good, you will recover from the flu and be ready to start your treatment. Personally. I always listen to my body and respect that. If you are on triple tx with incivek, that is a big whammy on the body, to initiate. I was on boceprevir so I had a 4 week lead in period. I hardly noticed the meds the first week. If you have flexibility and need to delay your start, do that.
Avatar f tn I try and stay active by walking. It's great exercise Sand works lots of muscles and cardio. Walking outside is great too cuz there are inclines and declines. Just don't do to much. Your body will gain what it needs and it will have a reserve after because if you breastfeed it will need that stored fat to produce milk.
Avatar m tn Swelling after any injury, if it is minimal swelling subsides with in a period of 2-3 weeks, but in your case it is not so. I would suggest that you take a second opinion of a orthopaedician regarding the decision of surgery. In case if a severely displaced fracture is not treated at the appropriate time, permanent disability can occur. Best.
184674 tn?1360860493 Just like it sounds, relaxin relaxes the joints and muscles in your body to help your pelvis expand and loosens the joints in your hips to make room for baby to come out. It'll also help you do a wicked downward facing dog, so join a yoga class and relish your new flexibility. Relaxin production peeks at 14 weeks and remains in your system until after baby is born.
Avatar m tn To massage the masseter muscles on each side of your jaw, place your thumb inside your mouth and squeeze the thick muscle in your cheek (toward the back of your mouth) with your fingers. To get at the harder-to-reach jaw muscles inside your mouth, use your index finger to probe for tender areas behind the teeth, and use the finger to massage these spots. Other home-care therapies, such as moist heat or cold packs on the face, vitamin supplements, or biofeedback are useful for some people.
Avatar n tn t know when you got diabetes, but it can take a while to figure out how this disease looks on your body and how to live your life the way you want to and still take care of yourself. I have had diabetes for 39 years and for me flexibility was always a big issue. About 5 years ago, I went on the pump and that has given me the most flexibility yet. I can sleep in when I want to and eat or not eat when I feel like it. I'm not suggesting that the pump is the answer for you.
Avatar f tn It also has to do with the flexibility of your stomach muscles and ligaments, body structure and how active you stay. Some women don't start showing well into 20 almost 30 weeks.
Avatar m tn There was no need for any chemo or radiation since the tumor was well encapsulated. He engaged in all follow up tests and recent routine tests were all normal except his abdominal CT Scan showed some swelling in his bladder lining. All urine tests were normal - no signs of blood or infection...no sense of urgency to urinate or anything else unusual.
Avatar f tn LMT Charlotte made some great points. I would like to add that, since you have seen this doc for 6-8 months, and you are not happy with the response you are getting, get a second opinion. Changing docs/ getting second opinions is sometimes very necessary. Talk to your insurance company and find out if you have to get a referral to see a specialist. If not, call and make an appt. If so, go back to your primary care doc and ask for a referral to a different doctor.
20893158 tn?1579358911 t, such as moving toxins and nutrients through your body and out -- the more you sweat, the more you excrete, etc. It builds heart endurance by working the heart harder than less cardio based exercise. Etc. But you can do that with an elliptical machine or swimming or bicycling or playing a fast-moving sport. You can do that climbing mountains. You can do that rowing. So running itself isn't a necessary endeavor unless, of course, someone or something dangerous is chasing you!
Avatar n tn Still, these exercises, such as lifting and lowering the leg from the knee while sitting in a chair, are gentle and use your own body weight to create resistance, which makes them a perfect workout for those with arthritis. Again, work with a physical therapist or medical professional to choose the best exercises for your particular situation. An exercise routine that can be done anytime, anywhere, alone, or with a group? Walking might be a perfect match.
Avatar f tn My daughter is 25 now, and 5 years ago she broke her femur and had a titanium rod put in her leg. She's doing fine, and now she's taking tae kwando classes. She is not sure, however, if she should push herself to do kicks, etc., or to be careful not to put too much strain on her hip. She's not sure if she can increase her flexibility by pushing herself, or if she could do herself harm. How can she tell what could be helpful as opposed to what might to damage?
