Common Questions and Answers about Flexibility in singing

flexibility

Avatar m tn Pilates helps in developing a strong core in improving co-ordination and balance. It helps to build flexibility, muscle strength and helps to build up endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, hips and back. The exercises concentrate on spinal and pelvic alignment and breathing that helps in strengthening the body's centre. The exercises start off gently and the intensity increases as the body core strengthens. There is lots of information on Pilates on the web. Best wishes.
Avatar m tn I still suffer from excruciating cramp in my feet. Over the last 2 years I have built up the muscles in my feet and have increased flexibility with daily stretches and exercises but still suffer from painful cramp in my arches and toes. It seems to occur when my toes are pointed for long periods of time as I tend to tense my feet quite hard.
Avatar m tn I have flexibility issues in almost all of my joints (Knees, elbow, wrist, ankle). Coincidentally, all the joints in the right side of my body are worse. I cannot squat as the back of my feet cannot touch my butt, my hand cannot touch my shoulder, cannot do pushup as wrist will hurt a lot. I have done xrays but doctor said my xrays are fine. Went through physiotherapy but joints flexibility does not improve no matter how much i stretched.
Avatar f tn If it sounds like there are actually people in the room (or standing in your ear) and singing, then you should get screened for things like schizophrenia. The exception is if it only happens when there's a lot of white noise around (like fans or refrigerators running)--the sound from things like these can get distorted into a musical hallucination, but you won't notice it in a quiet place. The occasional thing like a phantom cell phone ring isn't worrisome either.

1028452 tn?1537448484 Michael keeps nagging about singing to his sister, but kids are never allowed in Intensive Care. But Karen makes up her mind. She will take Michael whether they like it or not. If he doesn't see his sister now, he may never see her alive. She dresses him in an oversized scrub suit and marches him into ICU. He looks like a walking laundry basket, but the head nurse recognizes him as a child and bellows, "Get that kid out of here now! No children are allowed in ICU.

Avatar n tn My 80 year old mother had TKR surgery last week. She says when she stands or sits for any length of time, her foot hurts and she must lay down to relieve the pain. The doctor said this is typical because of blood rushing to the foot and recommended putting the support sock on. Has anyone else experienced this? Everyone is impressed with her flexibility and she's doing her exercises regularly but this pain has really gotten her concerned and regrets getting the surgery.
Avatar f tn The point, however, is that, throughout that performance, my focus was on The Apprentice, a show I both star in and co-produce. I was flexible enough to accept a singing assignment, even though singing is not my forte. I ended up winning the talent category for the night, and everyone had a good time in the process. If I hadn’t been flexible, or at least a good sport, that would not have happened. Don’t let opportunities pass you by because of your own inflexibility.
Avatar m tn There was no need for any chemo or radiation since the tumor was well encapsulated. He engaged in all follow up tests and recent routine tests were all normal except his abdominal CT Scan showed some swelling in his bladder lining. All urine tests were normal - no signs of blood or infection...no sense of urgency to urinate or anything else unusual.
Avatar n tn I'm in my school chorus, and there was a 2 hour practice yesterday. We were singing nonstop for about 20 minutes when suddenly there was this dull pain under my left ribcage. I was able to continue singing but it was extremely painful. The pain sort of went up and down, spread towards my back. I also had this urge to vomit. I went to the bathroom and stayed there for a while, and slowly the pain started to lessen.
Avatar m tn Hi Brad, I agree with nickppatel re the leg activity in water polo. I played water polo for 6 years in my late teens to early twenties (then joined the military) and I have a full understanding on the amount of leg work required just to play water polo, let alone being the goalie.
Avatar m tn I suppose my vocal chords are still swollen cause the only thing i can hear and feel is the air coming through my chords with no sound while singing in high pitches. Still is it normal to last over 2 weeks already? I am a little afraid I could do something wrong with my voice by drinking alcohol after intensive singing during concert. Is it possible that alcohol burnt scars in my vocal chords that's why there is no sound?
Avatar n tn Over the course of last 3 or 4 weeks getting uncontrollable singing in the head. Sounds like choir, male and female separately (singing different things but simultaneously.) Started with 2 or 3 notes, eg. "Va-room" "Va-room" repeated incessantly, or like "Guten Taaaag" repeated, etc. Now longer, unfamiliar tunes eg. singing, "You will burn in hell!
Avatar m tn t had a voice for the past couple weeks because I have been on vacation and there has been a lot of yelling/singing involved. When I woke up two days ago on Sunday morning I noticed that at the back right side of my throat there was large red patch of irritation, very sensitive. It hurts to swallow but this is not what I am concerned about. Every time I drink Tea (whether it is hot or warm) I get first a pain in my chest, almost directly between my breasts, but then also pain in my abdomen area.
5509293 tn?1428531475 If I get a nice ping-ey "eee" vowel going, the vibrations in my head make me dizzy. Doesn't happen with any other vowels.
Avatar f tn A political ad has the song "Hey Big Spender" in it and that loops in my head for a while after it comes on. And we went to the zoo last week and my son started singing, "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" and it's been stuck in my head since--I even wake up in the night singing it.
Avatar m tn I have the same problem. Professional singer, was singing in March and felt like I had a blow-out in my voice. Have seen ENT and gastroenterologist, had lanyngoscopy, endoscopy, and not any better. I gave up caffeine, began doing yoga, and still not much better. It is so frustrating! Hard being on the road and not knowing if my voice is going to cooperate on stage. How is your voice now?
Avatar n tn Hi, I was a professional singer guitarist for over 20 years but I have had to give it up because of a voice/muscle tension problem. . It started over 3 years ago when going towards the microphone my chest and neck muscles would tense, making it hard to get enough breath to sing. Before and immediately afterwards I could sing perfectly! After about 2 years it started affecting my talking voice and last December i eventually decided to give the singing a break.
1386217 tn?1279711235 I think that MS has only had an indirect effect on my singing..and I shall try and go back to singing lessons but I do not know if it affects the muscles in your throat. I would ask your neuro next time you go as it may be nothing to do with MS and maybe you need to see a throat specialist who could look at your vocal chords? Keep the music within you and I hope that you will find your voice again..it is a gift to be able to sing.
Avatar f tn I love that you are singing since it's a great sign that life is looking up for you! I find myself singing at my desk at work now and sometimes the other ladies in my office just look at me like I'm crazy, but then they start smiling. I think it brings joy to those around us too!
Avatar f tn I have a problem with chronic pain in my left shin and have had bouts with plantar fastitis. Suddenly by shoe inserts to support my high arches feel awful. What are the right exercises and what else can I do?
1253197 tn?1331209110 LOL There was a piece on Doctor Radio about the value of music in developing the personality of children. Singing in a choir or playing in a band makes us aware of others around us - we have to be attuned to them to make the music correctly. For children, this forces them out of the egocentric "me, me, me- its all about me" to being concerned about the good of the group. I imagine the same thoughts hold true for adults. Thanks for sparking these ideas....
