Avatar f tn Finally, using good shoes (ideally compensating for individual foot differences) is important. The shin can be trained for greater static and dynamic flexibility through adaptation, which will diminish the contracting reflex, and allow the muscles to handle the rapid stretch. The key to this is to stretch the shins regularly. However, static stretching might not be enough. To adapt a muscle to rapid, eccentric contraction, it has to acquire greater dynamic flexibility as well.

Avatar f tn I’d run for 1 minute, then walk, then run again for 2 minutes, then walk again, and so on and so forth until I was able to run one hour (5 miles) nonstop. I’d set goals for the day. For example, I’d say ‘Today, I will run 5 minutes nonstop at least once in a one hour period, then try to run 3 minutes intermittently within that hour for a total of maybe 15 minutes. I’d get so thirsty at first, but then I guess my body got used to running 5 days a week.
Avatar n tn Before I got pregnant, I jogged 4 times a week for 4-6 miles. I want to stay active as possible during my pregnancy. I am only 4 weeks along and I have been walking/light jogging for about 4 miles 4 times a week. I would like to know what kind of running adjustments you had to make as you progressed in pregnancy. And what your doctors have told you.
Avatar f tn People think that since Medicare covers medical services for people over 65, it also pays for nursing home care for elderly people. Medicaid is thought of as a poverty program that provides medical coverage to poor families. But Medicaid is the program that provides long-term care to the elderly and disabled, which accounts for 31 percent of the program's $400 billion annual federal and state spending. Most of the nation's 1.
Avatar f tn I had noticed that too, when im active for more than an hour like just cleaning my house doing laundry or going up and down stairs. It gets weird like hard, I started feeling that at 17 weeks, im now 19wks.
8411000 tn?1464556711 s World has quite a number of previous articles about Lyme disease, too, so that runners are advised of what to look for. That is excellent, that the magazine is looking out for runners, readers, and also the rest of us who just meander. I hadn't known of this resource before. Thanks again!
Avatar m tn Hi, My Student Industrial Team and I have come up with a device that relieves knee pain for those with runner's knee and the elderly as well. It utilizes pressure plates on the sides of the knee that help to stabilize and decrease the pain. What's your take?
384896 tn?1335294331 Well some of you may know, this Thursday I will officially be in the last month of my 2nd trimester, and I was wondering what some of you ladies out there would suggest for excersizing during the rest of my pregnancy. It's hot, so I've been swimming alot. ATLEAST for a few hours every day. Today, I was in there with my fiance for I can't tell you HOW long. lol. I'm a burnt lobster even though I put on sun screen- but that's not the point here.
15695260 tn?1549593113 I recommend it for serious runners. But I do have to say, if you run, when you get old, you will have a big chance of paying the price. You gotta love it so it's worth it. All the best.
Avatar m tn At age 13 (13 years ago) I had both my hips pinned due to a slipped capital femoral epiphysis on both sides. I have issues in mobility and flexibility and was wondering if there was any surgeries or treatments available to enhance my mobility. Thanks.
730826 tn?1317943334 Then when I washed and dried them they shrunk and fell apart. I JUST got my new runners broken in, went to mow the law, wearing my steal toed shoes this time. When I came in from mowing the lawn, I found that my puppy decided to chew my runners. She never has chewed shoes before. Its just my luck. Hopefully they are still wearable as she just chewed the heal.
Avatar f tn Lol so, coconut oil, olive oil work great. I felt a little sore after the first time I did mine. You have to do it consistently for it to be effective. You can't stretch one day and expect to do the splits the next. It takes time to build flexibility. I was told to begin it at 34 weeks.
Avatar n tn The person is able to walk with a device, however, sitting afterwards creates stiffness and inability to continue walking. Is flexibility possible?
Avatar m tn Hi. Im 30 years old and suffering from knees pains for about 6 months. I have consulted bone specialist and he said it is Chondromalacia. The knees are not swollened. He prescribed me with Glucosamine and taught me a basic of knees strenghthening physiotheraphy. In addition, he said its unnecessary for me to have a X-Ray screening and surgery as the symptom is mild. FYI, I am not active athlete and has an active routine activity. My question is: a. Can it be fully recovered?
Avatar f tn As Governor, Romney asked for even greater flexibility to waive the central part of the law by letting people receive benefits for an indefinite period and as HHS has said, his waiver request wouldn't be approved today because it weakened the law too much.
Avatar m tn Usually the main predictors of aortic dissection are family history, aortic size, and aortic flexibility. For someone of your aortic size, I would take it easy. Try the ARB approach with a max or ultra-max high dosage (as long as your doctor lets you) and see if that reduces aortic size and aortic flexibility (the "pulse pressure" is one way to estimate the flexibility - Google it). If so, then perhaps you can talk to your doctor about athletics.
Avatar m tn I have flexibility issues in almost all of my joints (Knees, elbow, wrist, ankle). Coincidentally, all the joints in the right side of my body are worse. I cannot squat as the back of my feet cannot touch my butt, my hand cannot touch my shoulder, cannot do pushup as wrist will hurt a lot. I have done xrays but doctor said my xrays are fine. Went through physiotherapy but joints flexibility does not improve no matter how much i stretched.
Avatar f tn Some docs offices don't close on that particular holiday. Check with yours. There is a little wiggle room, but mostly they like to keep things on schedule since it's easier to schedule patients consistent on a particular day rather than randomly. You could do chemo on Thursdays as an alternative. I did mine on Thursday afternoons so I had more than plenty of time to "bounce" back by Monday. Hopefully you'll have as good a time with the chemo as I did...
Avatar m tn Do not apply anti-chaffing stick to the area or petroleum or oils, that will clog the area. Buy some runners shorts and wear that over your underwear (to avoid causing a yeast infection) and under your pants/skirt. These runners shorts will be SLICK and help your thighs to slide back and fourth, eliminating friction. This should help you heal in that area. I know its tempting but don't squeeze the irritations, let them resolve on their own.
Avatar m tn s uncomfortable to sit even for short periods of time as there is a dull pain from my glutes down the back of my legs. I have been to a spinal PT and I temporarily felt better but not much. He focused only on my spine and said my movement was very limited for a 27 year old. I had an X-ray taken in December that my Internal Med. Physician initially said revealed dehydrated discs around the S1 area but later said they looked fine. I have been doing yoga 3-5 times a week the past 1.
Avatar f tn I have had nipple pain for several years. It only occurs when/after sweating. I don't think it's related to running cause I'm not physically active. I also have health anxiety and are sweating very much. When it occurs and the pain is severe the nipples turn almost white.. Since I've had it so many years I don't think it's 'life-threatening'. I do not think it is 'runners nipples' as well.. What can it be?
Avatar f tn My daughter is 25 now, and 5 years ago she broke her femur and had a titanium rod put in her leg. She's doing fine, and now she's taking tae kwando classes. She is not sure, however, if she should push herself to do kicks, etc., or to be careful not to put too much strain on her hip. She's not sure if she can increase her flexibility by pushing herself, or if she could do herself harm. How can she tell what could be helpful as opposed to what might to damage?
