Avatar f tn Kegel exercises are good for strengthening muscles. You can also do pelvic tilts and there are prenatal yoga classes too. I've also been doing standing hip circles (kind of like slowed hula hoop motions). Anything that opens up and stretches the pelvic area is good. Well, within reason anyways.
Avatar m tn both problems are slightly better with stretching and the exercises, but only temporarily (like 10 - 20 mins). In addition, during swim season my pain was much much lessened (on a daily basis). After swim season, the pain was generally worse. Also, various anti-inflammatories alleviate the pain almost completely. However, it seems that none are suitable for long term use.
Avatar f tn I know walking is a good exercise, and this might be an obvious answer to the question but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of exercises I could do to maintain my weight. Im paranoid if i gain too much weight my baby will be too big and cause difficulties during labor which terrifies me..Im wanting to avoid a c section so bad!
Avatar m tn Over the last 2 years I have built up the muscles in my feet and have increased flexibility with daily stretches and exercises but still suffer from painful cramp in my arches and toes. It seems to occur when my toes are pointed for long periods of time as I tend to tense my feet quite hard.
Avatar f tn I have a problem with chronic pain in my left shin and have had bouts with plantar fastitis. Suddenly by shoe inserts to support my high arches feel awful. What are the right exercises and what else can I do?
Avatar n tn My right arm was normal with no decreased flexibility. There was no pain, and I just figured the problem with the left arm was reduced flexibility due to aging. Then about 4-5 months ago, I noticed that the range of motion had reduced even more. Maybe a few more inches. Still no real pain. This basically only affected the ability to reach behind my back and wash it in the shower. Up until that time, it never entered my mind that something could be wrong with my shoulder/upper arm.
Avatar n tn Among them, it makes your heart and blood vessels healthier, prevents disability, and improves mood and well-being. Good conditioning exercises for people with rheumatoid arthritis include low-impact activities like walking, swimming, bicycling, or using an elliptical machine. Any of these will get your heart pumping. you should try to do 20 to 30 minutes of low-impact conditioning exercise on as many days as you feel you can. More is better, but any amount is better than none at all!

Range-of-motion and stretching exercises can help maintain flexibility in your joints and preserve good posture. Proper sleep and walking positions and abdominal and back exercises can help maintain your upright posture. Most people with ankylosing spondylitis don't need surgery.
Avatar m tn Thanks. I'm getting a little frustrated at the lack of total mobility. My doctor said pretty much the same thing for the length of time for the fracture to heal. I had my three month follow up appointment today this morning. X-rays were taken and it showed the fracture still hasn't healed completely. Thanks for the reply. I'll just remain diligent with my exercises and be patient in achieving full recovery.
Avatar n tn d be sent to physical or occupational therapy to work on it, which is where you go to learn from people with actual training what exercises might help. But without a diagnosis, that's hard to do, as you wouldn't know what is causing the wrist to hurt in the first place. The easiest thing to try is to stop doing those push-ups, and rest, elevate, and ice the wrist and see if in a couple of weeks it isn't better.
Avatar f tn re going to do some kettlebell swings or barbell deadlifts, warm up with Sun Salutation and shoulder retraction exercises instead of stretching your legs and hips while sitting on the floor. This is based on the SAID principle, which stands for specific adaptation to imposed demands. This refers to your body's ability to get better and adapt to specifically what it's trained to do, says physical therapist Tony Ingram.
Avatar m tn I like the idea of gentle stretching of yoga... Resistance exercises could be done sitting on the floor with one of those elastic bands. I think if I could cycle laying on my back and using just my legs that might work.
Avatar n tn My 80 year old mother had TKR surgery last week. She says when she stands or sits for any length of time, her foot hurts and she must lay down to relieve the pain. The doctor said this is typical because of blood rushing to the foot and recommended putting the support sock on. Has anyone else experienced this? Everyone is impressed with her flexibility and she's doing her exercises regularly but this pain has really gotten her concerned and regrets getting the surgery.
479581 tn?1317757488 You have 33 joints in you foot and 25% of your weight pushes through that big toe joint. If the procedure is done correctly, you should have most of your pain resolved with this procedure. A graft taken from the calcaneus or pelvis bone increases the chance of the graft to take. However, if you need to lengthen the bone to a greater degree, you may need an artificial graft. If you are not active, fusion can help too. But, you lose flexibility with certain movements.
Avatar f tn I took prenatal yoga and pilates classes which helped with flexibility and breathing! I wish i could find the time to take some classes with my second.
Avatar n tn Again, work with a physical therapist or medical professional to choose the best exercises for your particular situation. An exercise routine that can be done anytime, anywhere, alone, or with a group? Walking might be a perfect match. It’s safe, low impact, strengthens muscles, and helps keep weight in check. Aim for a pace that leaves you slightly short of breath, but not so much that you can’t carry on a conversation normally.
Avatar n tn Perform at least one form of weight-bearing aerobic exercise at least three days a week. For example, start with taking 20 minute brisk walks. Walk fast enough so that you're breathing hard. To achieve aerobic benefits and promote weight loss, you should exercise hard enough so that you can speak a few words but not carry on a conversation.
Avatar f tn I have a friend who is a physical therapist and said the key is following through with the knee exercises daily the first year and as needed weekly from then on but remember to ice pack the knee following exercise. I am still unable to work at a job that requires walking or standing. I was a real estate agent and had to quit after 11 years. I am worried that is may have come loose.
Avatar f tn Take food items that strengthen your body, stretching and flexibility exercises are good for the purpose.
