Avatar m tn It is important to do warm up exercises, before doing the "hard exercises". The reason for this is to soften and loosen up muscles and tendons. If you start to do normal exercises before "warming up" (exercise bike, and stretches), you could end up damaging and tearing muscles and tendons, which you do not want. Same for singing. It is important to do "warm up" exercises to gently loosen up the vocal chords before starting to sing using the full vocal range.
Avatar f tn I have a problem with chronic pain in my left shin and have had bouts with plantar fastitis. Suddenly by shoe inserts to support my high arches feel awful. What are the right exercises and what else can I do?
Avatar n tn Stretching the front and back or your leg to increase the flexibility in your knee. Perform stretching exercises at the end of your workout when your muscles are warm. Stretch the front of your leg in a standing position by bending your knee and raising your foot up toward your backside. Grasp the ankle with your hand to enhance the stretch. Stretch the back of your legs in a seated position with your legs extended on the floor. Fold forward over your straight legs to stretch your hamstrings.
Avatar m tn Over the last 2 years I have built up the muscles in my feet and have increased flexibility with daily stretches and exercises but still suffer from painful cramp in my arches and toes. It seems to occur when my toes are pointed for long periods of time as I tend to tense my feet quite hard.
Avatar m tn I have been sore right around both of my gluteus Maximus muscles since December. The muscle is very tight and seems to be restricting the movement of my lower lumbar. It's uncomfortable to sit even for short periods of time as there is a dull pain from my glutes down the back of my legs. I have been to a spinal PT and I temporarily felt better but not much. He focused only on my spine and said my movement was very limited for a 27 year old.
Avatar f tn One study performed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill showed that subjects who performed dynamic warm-ups had higher performance in the vertical jump test than those who just did standard stretching. Dynamic flexibility, which is moving your muscles and joints within your full range of motion repetitively, should be performed before weightlifting because it stimulates higher neural activity and increases tissue elasticity.

Avatar f tn Then he had me do a couple sets of lunges, again it was hard but not overly painful. A couple minutes afterwards, though, my thigh muscles cramped up like crazy. My legs also felt super weird going down a flight of stairs (kind of felt like my thigh muscles didn't even exist). Today, the next day, I'm in a LOT of pain when I go down stairs or go to sit down. Is this a normal muscular response to this?
Avatar n tn Include abdominal and upper body exercises such as crunches, planks, side planks, pushups, pullups and triceps dips for total body strengthening to improve your fitness and elevate your metabolism. Perform yoga or stretches after each exercise session to improve your flexibility and reduce your risk of soreness and injuries. Stretching helps to elongate your muscles to give your legs a leaner appearance. No excess sodium and improve your diet to reduce water retention.
Avatar f tn When I do them everyday, my pain is less and I have fewer headaches. Without some kind of stretching exercises, the muscles just keep tightening up. I tried to explain these the best I could. I hope it makes sense. Let me know if I confused you or if these help. Please, if it hurts, STOP! It should not be painful. You should just feel it stretch a little.
530544 tn?1212919974 Dear Dr. Navneet, Thank you so much. I appreciate your thorough explanation of the exercises to strengthen the muscles around the 'winging'. This will help tremendously and will allow me to do yoga without injuries due to a weak serratus muscle. I know my back will never be the same, but at least my back can be strong and will allow me to do the strength training exercises that I enjoy doing.
Avatar n tn s advice, you need to be in some sort of physical therapy to strenghten and improve flexibility of muscles related to your spine. Also, if your accident was fairly recent, you need to rest a lot, so not being able to get out of bed is your body trying to tell you something. You also need to be on some sort of medicine, either pain killers or antispasmodics, to help control the discomfort you are experiencing in your back, since the shots are not enough.

Avatar m tn Exercises and therapy To promote your recovery, your doctor may recommend specific exercises or physical therapy to strengthen the muscles that support your knees and control limb alignment, such as your quadriceps, hamstrings and the muscles around your hips (especially the hip abductors). In other cases, knee braces or arch supports may be recommended. When you exercise, choose activities that go easy on your knees, such as bicycling and swimming.
6896476 tn?1386858324 hi, what exercises can you recommend for me to lose my fat around my thighs without gaining muscles on it and achieving a thigh gap? my thighs is around 22-24 inches each leg.
Avatar f tn The way to ease pain quicker is to eventually get into physical therapy for a few sessions, and then you keep up with the exercises they teach you to improve flexibility and strength in the operation area, thus preventing unnecessary discomfort. In the meantime, you could probably use some massages a few times a week to help those muscles, plus heat helps pain, too.
279234 tn?1363105249 The spasticity causes chronic tightening of the muscles. The muscles are attached to the bone by the tendons. Over time the tendons shorten and continue shortening until the joint involved becomes permanently contractured. the other thing that can cause shortening of the tendons is atrophy of its muscle - like from paralysis or immobilization. Stretching a shortened tendon is a long, and sometimes painful endeavor.

8274643 tn?1406141596 I know this may sound like a silly question but how exactly do you do kegal exercises? My doctor told me to do them to help strengthen my muscles down there but I'm not exactly sure on how I'm supposed to do them lol. So can someone please explain it to me?
Avatar m tn I believe it is in part due to patellar mistracking. I have been working on flexibility in my hamstrings and quads, as well as strengthening my VMO, since it is weaker than the outer quad muscles. I have been doing wall sits to strengthen my VMO, since squats are too painful and leg extensions agrivate the condition. However, these excersizes seem to do little to help with the pain, even though I have been doing them for at least 6 months now.
Avatar m tn Are there any exercises that limit the progression of presbyopia? Conversely, are their any habits that should be reduced? Thanks.
